Sandy Water Park

Sandy Water Park has been developed from the four acre site of the old Dupont Steelworks.

There is a pleasant lakeside walk, a cycle track (part of the SUSTRANS National Cycle Network) a planned sculpture trial and an abundance of swans, mallards and other wildlife.

Lakeside housing is an important part of the regeneration of the area, but there are equally dramatic plans for the park in that Cyd Coed intends to plant thousands of trees "Native trees are being planted around Festival Fields – the site of the 2000 national Eisteddfod - and will blossom in spring to add a dramatic splash of colour. These include hawthorn, rowan, viburnum and crab apple. An area set aside for the poplar species will include the black poplar, a rare tree which is fond of wet areas and is still common in the Llanelli area. Plenty of oaks will be planted, such as our native sessile oak and Turkey oak, as well as salt tolerant pines including Monterey and Corsican pine"

Development of the lake as a fishing resource is proceeding apace with Rudd, Perch, Carp, Bream and Tench already introduced. (Permit Details)
