St Davids
Britain's smallest city, St Davidss, lies on the St Davids peninsula, in the Pembrokeshire National Park and is one of the most westerly points in Wales. Built in a unique location, with the cathedral having being built in a valley unlike most cities where they are situated on hills overlooking the city.
St Davids is really not much more than a reasonable sized village, however everyone who lives there is extremely proud of its city status. This tiny historic city is quaint and unmissable; famed for its cathedral " "the jewel in the crown", however there are many other places of interest, culture and unique scenery to enjoy making this a well known tourist attraction.
St Davids cathedral is easily located, there is a car park near the National Park tourist information centre as you approach from Haverfordwest and a shuttle bus from here to thes cathedral. Alternatively there are two small car parks in St Davids centre, one in New Street and the other on Quickwell hill, there is also a third car park nearer to St Davids Bishops palace and Cathedral but not quite as convenient for the city centre.
St Davids cathedral hosts many important concerts throughout the year, it has its own summer music festival and also host several of the concerts for the Fishguard music festival. There are also numerous other musical and artistic events hosted at St Davids throughout the year.
St Davids has its own well known cathedral choir which feature heavily in the music festival and concerts, however if you are unable to attend any of the concerts you can often just enjoy listening to one of the regular practise sessions for free ( Thursday evening is the regular choir practise evening).
Many visitors to St Davids cathedral are stunned when they happen to see a wedding taking place, its important to remember that the cathedral is still the parish church for everyone living in St Davids and does function as normal church in the community as well as host to so many special events.
On Sundays you can hear the peal of ten bells from the Bell tower above the cathedral, they are always rung on Sundays and on special occasions. The bell tower has been restored in recent years and now has a small exhibition centre opposite to the actual bell tower.
