Situated deep in the Carmarthenshire countryside and only 16 miles from each other, Dolaucothi Gold Mines and Llyn Brianne make for an excellent day out.
The mines are situated on the edge of the village of Pumpsaint, just off the A482 from Llanwrda to Lampeter.
They are the only known Roman gold mines in the UK and offer a selection of underground tours as well as some great walking trails in the local vicinity.
There is also a shop (where you can buy rare Welsh gold jewellery) and a tea room.
To reach the Towy Bridge Inn you will need to travel through narrow lanes, but this is well worth it to discover this hidden gem of a pub. From the Gold Mines follow signs for Cwrtycadno. Stay on this road passing through Cwrtycadno until you see the Towy Bridge Inn on your right. The pub is opposite a large metal framed bridge which will be on your left.
To get to Llyn Brianne, head over the bridge and follow this road along the valley floor – you will eventually reach Llyn Brianne.
A man made reservoir, Llyn Brianne was created in the late 60’s and early 70’s. You can drive around it’s entirety but do take some time to stop and discover some of the beautiful views out across the water.
