At over a mile long, Newport Sands is a popular beach at all times of the year. This sandy beach in Pembrokeshire<\/a>, backed by large sand dunes sits on the northern bank of the Nevern Estuary opposite the town of Newport<\/a> in North Pembrokeshire.<\/p>\n

Newport Sands is ideal for launching boats from trailers, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking and due to its aspect – snuggled between two high headlands and is usually calm and protected during the summer months. There is plenty of space for sunbathing and beach games and rarely does the beach get so busy that you cannot find a space to sit, relax and enjoy the glorious views.<\/p>\n

There is ample parking – both in the car parks and also on a stretch of the beach, although parking on the sands is only advisable during the summer months – please park to the northern side of the barrier else risk losing your vehicle in soft sand and or to an incoming tide.<\/p>\n

Is it safe to swim at Newport Sands?<\/h2>\n

During the summer, the beach is staffed by lifeguards who provide a safe swimming area, marked by the usual red and yellow flags and there is a surf life-saving club<\/a> which you can join if you wish to take part in any of the activities they may have going on.<\/p>\n

Watersports at Newport Sands<\/h2>\n

Behind the dunes is Newport Sands Golf Course, an 18 hole course with some of the most scenic (and sometimes windy) holes in Wales. In the car parks are WC’s and an ice cream shop.<\/p>\n
