From easygoing routes through popular coastal towns to the soaring heights of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/st-davids-peninsula-holiday-cottages.html\">St David\u2019s Head<\/a>, we\u2019ve put together a guide to our favourite walks in the area.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Take a look below for some holiday inspiration, from coast to countryside&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>5 Pembrokeshire Walks by the Coast\u2026<\/h2>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2305\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2021\/08\/resized-image-Promo-100.jpeg\" alt=\"Coastal Walks in Pembrokeshire\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sweeping coastal vistas and pretty seaside towns, it\u2019s all in a day\u2019s work of these lovely walking routes&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>1. Marloes Peninsula<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 5\u00bd miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderate<\/p>\n<p>Take a walk along the picturesque clifftops of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/walk-marloes-peninsula-pembrokeshire\/\">Marloes Peninsula<\/a>. From the roaring of the waves below to the calls of the seabirds above, it\u2019s one of those wonderful walks that really delights the senses. This particular route starts at the National Trust car park, and you\u2019ll need to follow the signs to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/marloes-holiday-cottages.html\">Marloes<\/a> Sands.<\/p>\n<p>For the next part, you\u2019ll get to enjoy a stroll along the mile-long golden sands of the beach, before heading north towards the clifftops. Abuzz with all sorts of wildlife and colourful coastal plants, nature lovers will be in their element as they scale these stunning cliffs. It\u2019s worth keeping your eyes up, though &#8211; glimpses of the island of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/holiday-cottages-near-skomer-island.html\">Skomer<\/a> can be seen from the top.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Pwllgwaelod to Newport<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 7 miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderate<\/p>\n<p>A relatively short walk compared to some of the other routes along the coastal path, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitpembrokeshire.com\/explore-pembrokeshire\/coast-path\/pwllgwaelod-to-newport\">Pwllgwaelod to Newport<\/a> trail rewards your hard work with fantastic views across the coast. This walk includes a steep climb to the highest point on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, as well as passing by two of the county\u2019s \u2018secret beaches\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll start with a hike to the summit of Pen Y Fan from Pwllgwaelod, before descending down the other side of the hill. From here, you\u2019ll follow a wooded path into the quaint hamlet of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/cwm-yr-eglwys-holiday-cottages.html\">Cwm yr Eglwys<\/a>. Follow the coastal path from here and you\u2019ll reach two secluded beaches, Aber Rhigian and Aberfforest &#8211; the latter being a great place for a quick swim.<\/p>\n<p>After enjoying the peace and quiet of these beaches, carry on along the estuary all the way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/newport-parrog-holiday-cottages.html\">Parrog<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/newport-holiday-cottages.html\">Newport<\/a> &#8211; where you can enjoy a well-deserved pint at The Castle Inn. One of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/pembrokeshire-pubs\">top pubs in Pembrokeshire.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>3. St David\u2019s Head<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 4 miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderate<\/p>\n<p>Just a few miles from the smallest city in Wales, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/st-davids-peninsula\/trails\/st-davids-head-coastal-walk\">St David\u2019s Head<\/a> is a rugged headland that offers spectacular views across the coast. This relatively short walk should take around an hour and a half to complete, but it\u2019s worth stopping and soaking up those gorgeous seascapes every now and again!<\/p>\n<p>This route begins from the Whitesands car park. From here, you\u2019ll need to pass by St Patrick&#8217;s Chapel and climb up the sandy slope to get yourself up onto the cliff path. Along the way, you\u2019ll get to see the neolithic Coetan Arthur as well as an Iron Age coastal fort &#8211; definitely a must-see for historians of the family!<\/p>\n<h2>4. Porthgain to Abereiddi<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 4 miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderate<\/p>\n<p>Such a pretty route in any season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/abereiddy-walk-to-porthgain-and-back\">Porthgain to Abereiddi<\/a> is a lovely circular trail that should take you around one to two hours to complete. It starts from the scenic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/holiday-cottages-porthgain.html\">Porthgain<\/a> Harbour, before ascending onto the coastal path. As you follow it along, the circular tower above Abereiddi should begin to come into view.<\/p>\n<p>A little further along, you\u2019ll come across a small series of steps that lead down to a tiny, secluded bay known as Traeth Llyfn. After a quick paddle, you can carry on along the coastal path until Abereiddi and the stunning blue lagoon. The cliffs along this section are very steep, so take caution.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Broad Haven<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 1\u00bd miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Easy<\/p>\n<p>If you just fancy a short yet scenic stroll, then this quick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales\/things-to-do\/walking-in-the-park\/web-walks\/broad-haven\/\">walk through Broad Haven<\/a> might just be what you\u2019re after. Combining both the coast and countryside, you\u2019ll start from the car park in town before following signs for the \u2018woodland walk\u2019. From the winding woodlands of Ally Pontfaen to the dramatic hillsides of the Preseli Hills, these country walks in Pembrokeshire are sure to please&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>1. Dyffryn Fernant Garden<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 5\u00bd miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderate<\/p>\n<p>The beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/walk-dyffryn-fernant-garden-pembrokeshire\/\">Dyffryn Fernant Garden<\/a> is a wonderful place to visit during the spring and summer months when it is alive with the twittering of birds and the vibrant colours of blooming flowers. This circular route is perfect for a full afternoon of walking &#8211; we\u2019d definitely recommend bringing a flask and some lunch along for this one.<\/p>\n<p>This walk takes you through the gardens before ascending the surrounding hillsides, offering some of the most incredible views of the countryside below &#8211; as well as the coast in some sections.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Preseli Hills<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 6 miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderate\/Challenging<\/p>\n<p>One of the county\u2019s most recognised landscapes, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/walk-preseli-hills-pembrokeshire\/\">Preseli Hills<\/a> offer a challenge for keen hikers visiting the area. With its mysterious megaliths and captivating prehistoric landscape, there is so much to look out for as you ascend their peaks. This route begins in Bwlch Gwynt, before gradually climbing through the forest that leads up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/preseli-hills-holiday-cottages.html\">Preseli Hills<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Along the way, you\u2019ll get to see some very interesting landmarks including Cerrig Marchogion, the Carnalw Hillfort, and Carn Menyn. Allt Pontfaen<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 3 miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Easy<\/p>\n<p>A scenic and easygoing stroll through enchanting woodlands, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales\/things-to-do\/walking-in-the-park\/web-walks\/allt-pontfaen\/\">Allt Pontfaen<\/a> route is perfect for dog walkers. Taking you through a varied landscape of river valleys and wooded slopes, the area is brimming with nature and beauty.<\/p>\n<p>From the car park in Pontfaen, you\u2019ll need to turn left and carry on up the road until you see a signpost for the footpath. From here, follow the broad track while making sure to avoid turning off on the first path that heads downhill. The path should begin to narrow, and once you reach the fingerpost you\u2019ll need to turn left. Keep following the waymarks back to the car park. There are various routes around the forest, so if you\u2019ve got the time it\u2019s worth exploring them and familiarizing yourself with the area!<\/p>\n<h2>4. Brynberian<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 1\u00bd miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Easy<\/p>\n<p>Yet another short and easygoing walk in Pembrokeshire, this trail along the country lanes outside of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales\/things-to-do\/walking-in-the-park\/web-walks\/brynberian\/\">Brynberian<\/a> is perfect for a quick afternoon stroll. The village itself is steeped in all sorts of history and mythological lore, from a nasty monster who terrorised the village to three giants who fought over their inheritance.<\/p>\n<p>In the local area, you\u2019ll find ancient woodlands and stone cairns that are well worth a visit. After a walk around here, you\u2019ll soon see why these myths and legends came about!<\/p>\n<h2>5. Cwm Gwaun<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Distance:<\/strong> 2\u00bd miles<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> Easy<\/p>\n<p>A scenic route along woodlands and country roads, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales\/things-to-do\/walking-in-the-park\/web-walks\/cwm-gwaun\/\">Cwm Gwaun<\/a> is a lovely choice if you\u2019re planning on taking a picnic along with you.
