As the iconic setting for the famous Shell Cottage, Freshwater West is also home to Dobby the house elf\u2019s grave.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Here\u2019s your guide to the incredible setting for Shell Cottage, Pembrokeshire &#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Shell Cottage<\/h2>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/12\/harry-potter-shell-house-freshwater-west_img_2925.jpg\" alt=\"harry potter shell cottage\" width=\"940\" height=\"343\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shell Cottage was constructed as one of the set\u2019s for the final Harry Potter films \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows\">Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows<\/a> starring Daniel Radcliffe and based on the book by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jkrowling.com\/en\/\">J. K. Rowling<\/a>. The house was the setting for Bill and Fleur Weasley\u2019s home and a safe house during the Second Wizarding War. The unique, character-filled cottage was built along the coast of Freshwater West, Pembrokeshire, with filming taking place between the 11th and 15th May 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The cottage was used for filming several scenes in both Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 but was taken straight down after filming. Although Shell Cottage has long since gone, you can visit the location of this iconic landmark. Whilst the cottage itself was filled with water containers to make sure the house didn\u2019t blow away in the wind! The Shell Cottage has now been removed from this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/guide-to-west-wales-beaches\">popular beach in West Wales<\/a>, but Potter fans still flock to the beach in search of Dobby\u2019s grave and to walk in the footsteps of Harry, Hermoine and Ron.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Dobby\u2019s Grave, Freshwater West<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/12\/Freshwater-West-Pembrokeshire.jpg\" alt=\"Freshwater West where Dobby's Grave is\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dobby\u2019s death, which took place in front of Shell Cottage, is one of the most devastating and upsetting scenes throughout the whole Harry Potter series. For those who don\u2019t know, Dobby was a house-elf belonging to the Malfoy family and was extremely protective of Harry Potter.<\/p>\n<p>After causing a lot of mayhem throughout the first few films, Dobby and Harry became the closest of friends, with Harry treating Dobby as an equal. Eventually, Harry managed to free the loveable house-elf from the poor treatment of the Malfoy\u2019s, thus turning Dobby into a Free Elf. Dobby died in the arms of Harry Potter, along the golden sands of Freshwater West.<\/p>\n<p>To this day, the beach is visited by many a Harry Potter fan, in search of Dobby\u2019s grave. The original \u201chere lies Dobby, a Free Elf\u201d stone was initially stolen, however amongst the sand dunes of Freshwater West, you\u2019ll still find an array of memorials for Dobby.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Find Dobby\u2019s Grave<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re heading to Freshwater West in search of Dobby\u2019s grave then all you need to do is follow these instructions\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Walk along the beach from Cafe Mor and continue along the grassy area between the beach and road and turn right.<\/li>\n<li>From here, walk past the \u201cFreshwater West Beach\u201d sign, onto the pebbles and towards the lifeguard box.<\/li>\n<li>Continue for 100 meters, over the smaller sand dunes.<\/li>\n<li>At the top of the sand dunes, you\u2019ll see Dobby\u2019s heartwarming memorials. Dobby\u2019s grave is located on top of the dune closest to the sea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Freshwater West<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/12\/View-of-Freshwater-West-Pembrokeshire.jpg\" alt=\"Views of Freshwater West beach\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Freshwater West, a beautiful, windswept, exposed beach, is arguably one of the most consistent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/surfing-beaches-in-wales\">surf spots in Pembrokeshire<\/a>. In fact, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsf.wales\/\">Welsh National Surfing Championships<\/a> are held at Freshwater West annually during the first bank holiday in May. The south-westerly facing beach, with its mighty waves, should only be tested by experienced surfers and extremely strong swimmers.<\/p>\n<p>On a calm sunny day, the water may look inviting, but the rip currents beneath the surface can be very dangerous. Not only was Freshwater West the filming location for Shell Cottage in Harry Potter, but it also featured in Ridley Scott\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robin_Hood_(2010_film)\">Robin Hood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welsh-cottages.co.uk\/blog\/dog-friendly-beaches-in-pembrokeshire\">dog-friendly beach in Pembrokeshire<\/a> is breathtakingly beautiful and the ideal location for family adventures, romantic strolls or a day relaxing on the beach.
