The only known Roman gold mines in the UK, although evidence shows that mining was also happening during the Bronze Age here.
The mines are open to the public and owned and run by the National Trust.
Guided tours are available so that you can see and learn about the Roman and also more modern mining practices.
There is also a self-guided trail around the major features and you can also give gold panning a go in the source of the River Cothi.
Near by Dolaucothi is the small village of Pumsaint which houses the Dolaucothi Arms where you can enjoy 'Simple, honest and hearty meals made from scratch from good stuff found not too far away.'
