The Shropshire Hills AONB is just a 10 mile drive away which offers pretty villages and towns with black and white houses surrounding picture perfect squares.
The area offers numerous outdoor activities such as fabulous walks, a variety of cycle trails, fantastic wildlife spotting opportunities at local reserves or the Elan Valley lakes, including the impressive red kites.
For something a little different, perhaps take a pony trek into the mountains, a round of golf or a more sedate activity such as fishing on the River Wye.
Slightly further afield, to the north you will find the magnificent National Trust’s Powis Castle, 23 miles, a stunning property surrounded by manicured gardens, Italianate gardens and terraces or perhaps pop for an afternoon tea at the picturesque Glansevern Gardens, 18 miles.
A thirty minute drive south will take you to the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells, a popular base for cyclists or a little further on is Builth Wells, home of the Royal Welsh Showground and its associated events calendar.
