“Beautiful lodge which has been finished to a very high standard.”

The lodge was in a great location with views over the countryside and private lake, very peaceful! The owners were very quick with responding to any questions and were very helpful. The lodge had everything we needed, was very very clean and we had a wonderful stay, I would highly recommend booking this luxury accommodation!

“Lapwing Lodge is a really lovely place to stay - we had a great time.”

The bathrooms are beautiful (feel I need to update mine now at home!) - gorgeous tiles, large modern showers and three of the four rooms are ensuite. There are two huge bedrooms upstairs with freestanding baths in the bedrooms as well as ensuite bathrooms. Pity I didn't get time to take a bath looking at the stars through the velux as I didn't have time (spent a lot of it relaxing in the hot tub). My friends were kind enough to give me the best room with a huge window/double doors opening onto the balcony overlooking the pond which I really appreciated as it's one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Loads of frogs in the pond in March - quite entertaining watching them. The kitchen is really well equipped and there are three leather sofas so plenty of room for a group to sit and chat. The hot tub is under a big wooden veranda so even if it's raining you're sheltered and the house is lovely and warm because it has underfloor heating: the only downside to this is that when I got home I was freezing! The owner was really friendly and relaxed and, since no one was coming in the next day, allowed us to check out really late. I'd love to stay there again - perhaps in the summer when you could use the outside space and barbecue. Thanks / diolch yn fawr iawn! Jane

“What a wonderful place.”

I would highly recommend this lodge. It was spacious, clean and well equiped. The hot tub was a great way to relax in the evening. Beautiful views too. Elan valley just minutes away, with breath taking reservoirs and valleys. Katie and Andrew were great hosts. Would love to visit again.

“This was the most well equipped cottage I have stayed in.”

The kitchen and its equipment was of a high standard and it was spotlessly clean. The sofas and beds very comfortable. The situation was good with plenty to do nearby even in the depths of winter.

“We had such a lovely short getaway.”

When we got there, we realised the pictures didn't do it any justice! The place was spacious, clean, top of the range, no expense made with quality. Due to covid, everything was done accordingly to keeping safe and clean without feeling like we have missed out. On top of that, the owners were very friendly and welcoming and were great at giving advice when needed. We will definitely be making a return trip!

Lots of space, superbly furnished, very well equipped kitchen. Location was beautiful and very peaceful, lovely sitting in the hot tub watching the red kites. Great joining instructions and directions. Andrew was very welcoming and provided us with the comprehensive information before our stay and when we arrived. The lodge was exceptionally clean and well maintained. We would certainly recommend to our friends and family. Thank you for facilitating a lovely relaxing family holiday in these very strange times. We were so grateful that we managed to get away before yet another lockdown!

“Lapwing Lodge was extremely clean on arrival and there was plenty of room for our party of 8 to spread out.”

Fittings and furnishings were all of very good quality. Hosts were very friendly and came and tested the hot tub daily. Location was excellent and on the one cloudless night we had the stars were amazing. Lots of scenic walks of varying difficulty in the Rhayader area so did not have to drive far. Red Kite Centre and Elan Valley well worth a visit. Only downsides being flies and sometimes a smell from the sceptic tank but I suppose that is what you get when you are in the countryside. Highly recommended for a quiet rural getaway in luxury accommodation.

The quality of the furnishing, kitchen, beds etc is really good. The communications from the owner before arrival we’re really good and the welcome wine and cakes were a nice touch. The hot tub is great as is the sheltered veranda. Cannot fault the lodge. The only challenge is that there is not much in the local area for a family to do.

“Lapwing is absolutely brilliant!”

Luxurious, yet homely. Fun, yet practical! We had a lovely welcome hamper with wine, welsh cakes and sachets of tea, coffee and hot chocolate when we arrived. The owner, Andy, welcomed us and from start to finish the holiday was fantastic! He is a great guy, very easy-going and super friendly! The house is stunning. Very spacious and immaculate! Modern, yet very homely. Fully equipped kitchen with all the mod-cons - Micro oven, two ovens, double toaster, coffee machine AND a wine fridge! They also have high quality glassware and plastic glassware for alfresco dining. They even supply a lovely set of children's plates, bowls, cutlery & cups! There is also a utility area with washing machine, tumble and ironing board with iron. Beds and pillows were very comfortable, large built-in wardrobes in every bedroom and en suits are stunning with hot power showers and deep roll-top baths! Huge decking area, with massive seating area and a great BBQ (small bag of coal supplied). Hot tub was brilliant. The owner, Andy, checked it daily and was always on-hand if we needed assistance. The lodge is situated on Andy's working farm, so you can see many animals around the area and enjoy some short walk around the farm. The cows would love to graze right next to the hot tub, which we thought was amazing. The stars are very prominent at night and such a joy whilst enjoying the hot tub. Very secluded, yet a short drive to the local village, which had many take-aways, pubs, co-op, spar and little local shops. We would recommend visits to Devil's Bridge, Red Kite Feeding Centre, Gilfach nature reserve and a bike ride around the many dams. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK SOON! We had an anazing week. Our children aged between 2 and 7 had a blast!

RHAYADER

Llandrindod Wells 10 miles; Aberystwyth 34 miles.

Rhayader is a small Welsh market town with a selection of tea rooms, pubs, restaurants, amenities and unique little boutiques, including local antiques. An added bonus of a leisure centre with a large swimming pool and a weekly livestock market. The Red Kite Feeding Station, on the outskirts of the town is a great attraction not to be missed. Rhayader is the first town on the River Wye and is home to the spectacular dams and reservoirs of the Elan and Claerwen Valleys. The Elan Valley offers a variety of walks and cycle trails (cycle hire is available in Rhayader), as well as a visitor’s centre with café and children's play area. This area is known as the Wildlife Centre of Wales, with its amazing variety of nature reserves open for visitors to enjoy. There is also pony trekking available in the area. Visit Builth Wells, where the Spring Festival, Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and Winter Fair are all held annually. Alternatively, a scenic drive will take you to the Welsh coast 34 miles away.
