Mould spots on pillows when we stripped the beds, the mattresses were unbelievably uncomfortable and the state of the matresses when we stripped the beds was unreal springs sticking out, stains and just filthy, mould in the bathrooms, the windows were leaky, the oven door didn't shut which resulted in food not cooking properly and me having food poisoning (in hindsite we just shouldn't have cooked in it but we picked somewhere we could cook as our toddler goes to bed at 7 so didnt really have a choice). We really do feel that the property did not match what was advertised and given I have leukaemia cleanliness and comfort were very important when we were looking at properties. Looking at reviews which have been posted since we initially booked it seems they have been very much along the same lines making all the same comments about the beds and the oven. The washing machine leaked when we tried to use it although the owner did offer to refund us for out laundrette bill for the bed sheets and towel after sickness. The other issue we had was the farm dog constantly coming into the garden area to go to the toilet (so not only was i picking up my own dogs mess but someone elses too) and jumping up us (and our car) including knocking our little one flying on more than one occasion thankfully he is dog savy so this didn't upset him too much but our dog doesn't like other dogs in her personal space and getting jumped on and humped by him made it so we only took her outside at the farm for her morning and night toilet breaks and caused them to be extremely stressful constantly looking around to see if he was coming over. It's a shame as it really did make our holiday nothing like we wanted and I have several friends who would have loved the premise of staying at the farm with the horses but I honestly can't recommend it to them based on the accommodation in the property as it is.

The property

Newport 5.0 miles, Crymych 5.0 miles, Cardigan 6.5 miles.

This family home is located in the countryside on a traditional Welsh farm and campsite, specialising in the breeding and training of Shire Horses.

Named after the settlement in Patagonia, Trelew's tranquil farmyard setting makes it the perfect home base for families looking to get away from it all and experience a taste of farm life while exploring the natural wonders of Pembrokeshire.

Ample off-road parking is available for use upon arrival, making it easy to park and unload.

The home's open-concept living area features a slate tiled floor, French doors leading out to decking and a high frame ceiling that frames views of the nearby Preseli Hills, beyond the neighbouring campsite.

The kitchen, complete with a range of oak units, a breakfast bar with two stools, a large range cooker with electric ovens, a grill, and a hob, a microwave oven, and a large refrigerator and freezer, is ready for the designated chef to take charge.

Gather everyone around the farmhouse table for a hearty meal, and then retire to the cosy living room, complete with underfloor heating for those colder nights.

Trelew has three bedrooms: a king-size with an en-suite bathroom and a double on the lower ground floor and a loft space with an A-frame ceiling, velux windows and two single beds, ideal for the children of the group on the first floor.

You can choose to unwind on the sun deck with furniture and a picnic bench, or play some ball with your dog or kids on the enclosed, level lawn.

Based on the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, even after the farm has closed to the public, guests will have unrestricted access to the grounds and can play in the designated areas for children (with adult supervision, of course).

Those who bring their dogs can wander along a mile-long farm trail and an excellent public footpath that winds through the farm, taking in the breathtaking scenery and enjoying some peace and quiet.

Guests are welcome to partake in all scheduled activities, as well as explore the indoor children's play areas, gift shop, and café, and (by prior arrangement) can even help feed the animals with the farm's staff (not available to general visitors).

In addition, for an extra cost, guests can schedule private one-on-one sessions with the Shire Horses.

Cardigan, a historic market town, the Iron Age fort of Castell Henllys, and miles of cliff-top footpath in Britain's only Coastal National Park are all within driving distance.

If you're looking for a memorable rural vacation in Pembrokeshire, Trelew is the perfect cottage.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
