Your Guide to Little Haven, Pembrokeshire

Little Haven

Little Haven is a quaint fishing village that is very popular with families in the summer but still remains un-commercialised. The village itself is set on both sides of the valley overlooking the sheltered stony beach.

Little Haven Beach

Little Haven Beach at low tide

The beach can get busy during the summer months as it’s popular with surfers, divers, swimmers, sailors, families and walkers. Though not as big as the beach in Broad Haven it still has a big following with holidaymakers coming year after year, mainly due to its irresistible charm and relaxed rural feel and unspoilt beauty. Considered a safe spot for swimming Little Haven beach is good for families – when the tide is out the children can play on the rocks, see the rock pools, play in the stream and love building castles in the sand.

The slipway is popular for launching small boats so you can sit on the beach and watch the boats set out to sea or watch from one of the nearby pubs. A popular pastime for the locals and holidaymakers is a stroll along the beach after dinner discovering the small cove and rock pools and taking in how beautiful the setting is. The village is a good spot for those wanting to get away from the large crowds and take in a beautiful part of rural Wales.

Little Haven Pubs

Swan Inn and Little Haven Harbour

The village has 3 pubs: The St Brides Inn, The Castle and The Swan – all of which serve food. There is also a bistro, a small shop and a seaside cafe in the village. There isn’t much else in Little Haven but being unspoilt is a big part of its charm.

If you fancy a trip to the larger more bustling village of Broad Haven, it’s a two-minute drive by car or you can walk along the coastal path (15 minutes) for some spectacular coastal views. It is also possible when the tide is out to walk along the sand below the cliffs to Broad Haven and explore the numerous caves and rock pools along the way – but keep a watchful eye on the tide at all times. The beach at Broad Haven is much bigger with fine golden sand and is popular with everyone – but can get very busy during the summer.

Little Haven Walks

There are excellent walks in either direction from Little Haven offering views over the magnificent Pembrokeshire countryside and cliffs. The cliffs are spectacular all year round but if you get the chance it really is worth a visit during the spring and summer – the displays of wildflowers are breathtaking.
