Green Cottage

We had a super stay at Green Cottage.

The weather being sunny (and breezy) enabled us all to sit out and relax, with the mutts being able to roam and mooch in the fully enclosed, decent sized garden. Meanwhile Red Kites aplenty soared above. Shower was top, beds comfy, Smart TV, dishwasher and washing machine a boon. We visited the local Mid Wales pub; open at the mo M/W/F/S/S. So friendly (albeit no food currently), as were the neighbours and Brian the owner (who popped by). The stunning Elan Valley is an easy drive, as are the shops and pubs of Rhayader. A top break.

Stayed at Green Cottage for a week from the 18th April to the 24th .

The cottage is lovely and clean and very cosy, Brian the owner was very friendly and helpful we took 2 dogs both very hairy but there was no vacuum cleaner to suck up the hairs also a hair dryer would be useful as I did not take mine but other than that we would go back again , thanks Brian

Th cottage was slightly difficult to find as the postcode doesn’t take you to the exact cottage it’s further down the road.

. The cottage was super warm which was lovely but we did turn the heating down. The enclosed garden is brilliant if you have dogs. The facilities were great.

Nice cottage with almost everything you could need and in a good location to explore the area.

The owner checked in with us to ensure all was ok. The only suggestions I would make would be to provide a vacuum cleaner and to have the 3rd step on the stairs looked at as it appeared to be slightly tilted, with all of us almost falling a few times coming down the stairs. Me whilst carrying our disabled son. Also, the property description stated there was a travel cot available, but there wasn't one in property. Fortunately it wasn't needed in the end.

Spottlessly clean, warm and comfortable Cottage.

Ideal for exploring all that the local area offers

What a lovely cottage, spacious, clean and comfortable.

So peaceful and in a perfect location. Would definitely recommend 100%!

Very comfortable beds and a very secure dog proof garden.

Really good location as a base for exploring mid Wales..thank you for a lovely stay :)

We enjoyed a great week exploring the Elan Valley.

Green Cottage was a good base as not far away from Rhayader and Llanidloes. We were kept busy all week by booking the Red Kite feeding centre, visiting all the dams, on one walk of a dam we saw the fighter jets flying down the valley which my partner was very pleased about. Llandrindod Wells isn’t too far away and worth visiting, we also drove to the Welsh border to Knighton. The cottage itself is quite basic but we expected this from the price, it was quite clean and had everything we needed except there wasn’t any tea, coffee etc when we arrived but the owner kindly left us a bottle of wine, thank you. We met the owner who was friendly, we didn’t see the neighbours to speak to but they were quiet. The Mid Wales Inn pub is just a short walk down the lane from the cottage and we popped in for a few drinks, the locals were very welcoming. We ate out a lot, we would recommend the Lamb and Flag which was very good and The Triangle pub where the food and service was exceptional, may be worth booking as both pubs are popular. Having the parking right outside the back door was really handy for loading and unloading, the garden was pleasant and we sometimes saw Red Kites flying over us whilst sitting outside. The only negatives we would like to mention is the kitchen in the cottage is dated and the window in the shower room needs replacing, the shower was very good with lots of hot water but the old window really lets the room down. But overall a lovely area to visit and we had a good holiday.

We had a lovely stay .

It's so comfortable and homely . Very quite and peaceful. With lovely views . Really friendly pub with home cooked meals at the end of the road . Lots of places to go to. Or just relax in the garden . Our dogs were made welcome and there was plenty of room for them to play Tremayne and Linda

Had a lovely stay at green cottage.

Clean and tidy and comfortable. It would really benefit with a king-size bed in the master bedroom and maybe a curtain or blind for the front door as alot of light coming through when trying to watch tv. These are my personal thoughts but it wouldn't put me off staying again in the future.

This was a return stay at this lovely cottage.

The sofa has been replaced and is more comfortable than the old one. The cottage was lovely and clean. The garden is well enclosed for small dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It’s a pity the pub is still closed but that wouldn’t stop us retuning.

We had a great New Year's stay at Green Cottage.

The cottage was clean and tidy and warm. The log burner was lovely and we found all sofas and beds comfortable. It provided a great base for exploring the Elan Valley and surrounding areas, we would book again. Garden was totally secure for our dogs and we even managed to capture the northern lights from the garden. Thanks for a great stay.

This cottage is lovely warm and cosy, the woodburner is an added bonus.

The kitchen is very well equipped. The view is glorious even when the mist is low. The single glazed window in the bathroom and inadequate shower are the only things that prevent it from being pure luxury, I would happily recommend and stay again though

My second stay at Green Cottage and another very enjoyable visit.

I found the cottage to be clean, warm, and comfortable. I noticed there is a new sofa this time around which is much better than the last one! Wifi is fast and reliable, good enough to do some work if needed. The garden is secure and a decent size - my little dog appreciated it! Whilst it's clearly not a 'luxury' listing in terms of the furniture, decor and facilites provided (which you can see from the pics on the website), that all felt reflected in the price I paid and overall it felt really good value to me. It's the perfect location for exploring Mid Wales and I enjoyed some cracking walks this time in Gilfach nature reserve, the 'Water break its neck' waterfall area, and Elan Valley. The nearby towns of Rhyader and Llanidloes are both really nice and have a few cafes, shops and pubs. Would love to stay again.

Property full of damp and mould on walls .

Fridge seals mouldy also. Grimy bathroom floor , no extractor fan contributing to mould. Toilet soil pipe leaks over the floor. Stair carpet full of dog hair we took our own hoover and brush was covered. Broken loose slabs on steps in the garden. Bed uncomfortable feels like it is going to collapse. Left the property early as couldn't stand the damp making us unwell. Owner and Sykes cottages have been given the opportunity to resolve the issue . We have Sent all photographic evidence Yet have not been offered any reimbursement. Sykes have admitted there are health and safety issues but are still taking bookings for the property. Very sad being as this was our second visit to the property did not expect to find it on this occasion in such bad state of repair.

Sofas extremely uncomfortable need replacing.

Needs a new bed and mattress I had to sleep in one of the single beds to get a nights sleep. Used the wood burning stove a couple of times but the smoke fills the room and doesn’t go up the chimney. Definitely needs a hoover cottage is too large to sweep. Washer great but no line or pegs to dry it other than a very small airier. No iron or ironing board. Only one set of towels each and one tea towel. Bathroom is like a hospital wetroom needs modernising and made cosy as it a vey cold room. A nice welcome tray would be nice too.

A fantastic location, a short drive from Rhyader.

This cottage provides almost everything you need whilst away on holiday. After a long day’s walking in the Elan Valley, the least you expect is Comfortable sofa’s to relax on during the evening. Previous Reviews reveal the same comments…… The sofas are extremely Uncomfortable. But all in all, If comfortable furniture was available, We would return. Will not return, with existing sofa’s. A night light is required on the stairs for visits to the downstairs loo at night ( health & safety. Overall we give a 7/10.

Really nice cottage, reminded of my chilhood home, everything you needed and nothing you did'nt, situated in a lovely area, the Elan Valley is stunning for walks with the dogs, friendy owners and friendy nieghbours, if you want scenery, peace and tranquility and like to watch red kites with brilliant walking on your doorstep this is the place, Many thanks

Love Green Cottage.

Visited twice now and will be back. Hosts are so nice and there is a great patio area to sit out in the sun. The garden is ideal for the dog. Nothing better than sitting out watching the red kites. Close to the Elan Valley, all in all a wonderful place to stay.

The cottage is nice and clean but needs some attention to details, theres lots of places the plaster is flaking, The Mattresses and sofa both need replacing.

A hoover would be very handy and a night light on top of the stairs. Bathroom light is inadequate and needs a brigther bulb.

Great cottage our dogs loved the garden, very secure (we have beagles so they are a good test).

Cosy lounge and comfortable beds, bathroom could do with a little updating, bit drafty and felt a bit like a hospital bathroom, small towels - which is why I scored slightly lower on facilities. We are going back as overall was great stay and area is beautiful, pub wasnt open so cant comment. The only other thing there arent any of the usual extras that you might get - boardgames, cooking oil, t-bag, coffee, sugar, milk, foil etc.. only one t-towel, which is reflected in the price. Just thought worth noting so you can bring them with you. The owners did provide a bottle of wine which was gratefully received. Recommend Watson butchers in Rhayader and Wing chinese takeaway.

Comfortable, practical and spanking clean (and I'm a clean freak).

Well equipped for any cooking and laundry needs. Refreshingly uncluttered. Probably the best heating system ever. Such a cosy warm house. Just what you need after being soaked to the skin. Fabulous walking in the area. Perfect for walkers with fur babies.

Great place to stay.

Warm and cozy. A peaceful and scenic area.

We had a wonderful stay at Green Cottage.

Warm , cosy and very clean. Everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Our dog loved the enclosed garden. Beautiful scenery , Elan valley not too far. Hope to be back soon.

We loved our week's stay at Green Cottage.

The totally enclosed garden was absolutely perfect for our cavalier King Charles, the cottage was lovely and warm at all times. The wetroom was great for all including washing Hugo after long walks at Elan valley. The smart TV allowed us to binge watch and experience total relaxation which is why we came. The only 2 suggestion I would have is a small blind at the front door as it can be quite bright when lying on sofa. And we found the mattress a bit too soft. But that's just our opinion. It was a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.

Lovely cottage.

Warm cosy and very clean. Excellent for our 2 dogs. Good situation for exploring the area. The nearby pub is however closed and up for sale. Perhaps a hairdryer and teapot and something to make coffee would be a useful addition please.

Lovely cottage.

Nice and clean . Dogs loved the garden , beautiful scenery. Being dog friendly a vacuum would have been useful.

Beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings!

Clean, comfy and spacious. Loved the shower/wet room! We were very happy with everything, no complaints at all. Owner was very friendly and the neighbours were as well. Enclosed garden was brilliant for our 2 small dogs. Elan Valley is approximately 15 mins drive away and is very picturesque with lots of trails to follow and dog friendly. Thank you for an amazing holiday and we will be booking again

We had a peacful, restful week in beautiful surroundings

Lovely cottage, well equipped etc.

the garden was a little disheveled and some of the fronts in the kitchen are not stuck down so we’re constantly falling forward, just missing the dog. The beds are pretty uncomfortable, but we put the two singles together with a duvet under us and made do. Overall the facilities are great, just teething issues. Thanks again .

Very clean and comfortable cottage in a beautiful part of Wales.

Local community and farmers very friendly. Gilfach and Elan Valley a must to visit. Dog walkers and bird watchers heaven. Red Kites flying everywhere

The photographs of the property do not do it justice, the cottage is lovely and far bigger than we thought.

Everything we needed was there and the bed was so comfortable. The garden was excellent and we very much enjoyed sitting out watching the Red Kites. The location is perfect too, a short drive to the Elan Valley. We loved our break at Green Cottage and didn't want to leave! So hope we will be back again soon. The owners, Brian and Sandra were so kind and friendly. We thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Brilliant cottage.

Comfy inside, with everything I needed in the kitchen for cooking on nights in. Easy to park on drive. Reliable & fast WiFi helped with a bit of work needing done. Enclosed garden was properly secure with no weak spots for my small dog to exploit! Location is great with the Gilfach nature reserve very close by car, and Elan just a little further.

Beautiful accomodation in a beautiful setting.

We hope to return again in the future.

Such a lovely cottage!

Everything super comfortable. Somehow spacious but also cosy! Great area for us and we managed to do so much exploring everyday. Will miss waking up to the lambs opposite us!

We were generally happy with this 3 star accommodation but are more 4 star people I think.

Wet room too cold to shower. Sofa needs replacing. Didn't like street light right outside window...in almost dark skies area. Expect beds made up for 4 if paying for 4. But, great to have enclosed garden and hard floors for dogs. Lovely location. We would rebook (in the summer) now we know what to expect.

Lovely cottage with plenty of space, dog friendly too!

Stunning location with views out of all the windows (even in the rain). Garden would be great during the summer. Beautifully decorated for Christmas and a lovely touch with a bottle of fizz waiting for us on our arrival just before New Year. Lots to do in the area, short drive to the Elan Valley for walking and cycling, very friendly pub nearby and we look forward to going back very soon. Highly recommended.

Very large damp problem on 3 walls that needs sorting as plaster crumbling in places.

Sofas need replacing or re-stuffing as not very comfy. Cottage was quite clean and cozy, kitchen has all the necessary items and is very nice. Beds were comf wand bedrooms cozy tv in master room didn’t work and got dial tone when trying to contact the owners. Was abit secluded with long drives to get to places. Village of Rhayader was very nice. Was a nice relaxing holiday spent a lot of time at the cottage watching movies.

Wonderful cottage on the edge of a quiet village, although the road outside does get quite a bit of traffic, a lot of it noisy farm traffic, but that is to be expected.

The cottage is airy & spotless, a credit to the owners who look after it themselves, everything that you need is there, we couldn't sample the garden due to the Welsh weather, but we were snug inside whilst the gale came through. Our only niggle due to our age is that the sofa's are a bit low, we found it difficult to get up off them.

Lovely homely cottage with everything needed for a wales trip for rambling/ cycling or sight seeing.

Log burner is wonderful to dry off and warm up. We will be booking again as ideally located for outdoor activities in wales. Red Kites fly around the area and sheep often near driveway in fields enjoying the lush grass.

Very amenable owners Beautiful surroundings actually a surprise how much wildlife is on the door step Thanks

This was a chilled out holiday, in a lovely cottage.

The furnishings where lovely, the facilities excellent. The only concern we had was the side of the garage, where there is a wooden ledge. It was just right height for our German shepherd to hop on, and over the fence if he had wanted. Maybe a gate across. Apart from that, it was perfect, brilliant weather, beautiful local area, Red Kites feeding was amazing, the dark skies that showed hundreds of stars....brilliant. Thank you Brian & Sandra, we hope to be back next year.

Cottage very clean on arrival, kitchen well equipped .

..bottle of wine in fridge. massive wet room...comfy beds. Garden safe for your dog ....no complaints from Obi. Walking distance to pub. Look no further this cottage is for you....yes I would book again !

Green cottage is a lovely cottage with enclosed garden and driveway.

Located in a quiet village, footsteps from the Mid Wales Inn, a pub with a big friendly welcome. The beds at Green cottage are very comfy, the shower is fabulous. It is a great place to switch off from normal life as you will not get a phone signal here! Smart TVs provided so you can stream your favourite shows or boxsets. Green cottage is a great base to explore wales

Green Cottage is a lovely place, located in beautiful countryside.

We had no communication with the owners, but then we had no cause to, as the booking was straightforward, as was locating & accessing the property. The cottage has everything you would need for your stay. We sat in the garden each evening and watched the Red Kites circle above us. The garden was sufficiently secure for our dog to roam around on her own, without constant supervision. The pub is great, locals very friendly and good food. The only 2 slight niggles I have are: [1] the cottage information on the website states that the pub is open from 3rd August - I think this is very old information as we stayed in June & it was open - this could be very misleading to any potential bookers. And [2] It was a very hot week when we stayed and the bedrooms were very warm (even with the windows open) - it might be useful to have the availability of a couple of fans for use during those periods. Overall, we had a fabulous time in a brilliant property in a beautiful location - my partner actually didn't want me to write such a good review as he thought it would reduce our chances of being able to book again, because you would all see our review & book the cottage for yourselves. LOL. We will definitely be back.

While the cottage had most of the facilities you would need, we were disappointed by the lack of guidance for using them.

For example, times of bin collection were provided but nothing about which bin should be used for waste, recycling, food, glass etc. Also while there was central heating, there was no guidance on how to use it. This applied to the microwave, the dishwasher, and washing machine. It could easily be resolved by leaving the manufacturer's manual in the property. On the positive side, the owners were very helpful and showed us how to use the key safe when we arrived ! Also, the beds were very comfortable and the wet room the largest we've seen in a holiday let. In general, it was an excellent location, with good access to all areas in Mid Wales, with the display of feeding the red kites the highlight for us.

Green Cottage is a lovely place to stay ,all the neighbouring farmers were really friendly.

I think a vacuum cleaner would make it easier for the final clean. It is really well situated for exploring the beautiful countryside, rivers and dams. My favourite thing, the tap water is delicious.

Lovely accomodaion, perfect for a family.

Well equipted.

The property was lacking in home comforts.

Some rugs or carpet would have improved the comfort level.

Arrived at the cottage in the middle of a storm and when we opened kitchen door it was so warm and welcoming.

And it was spotless. So that was a good start. A very cosy, yet spacious, living room and the log fire completed the cosiness. Everything we needed in the kitchen, including dishwasher and washing machine. Wet room is huge, although at times a little cool. Plenty of space in bedrooms and beds were very comfortable. Enclosed garden very safe for our energetic Border Collie, with plenty of ball space. My husband met Brian (I was out with the dog). Liverpool were playing on the TV and hubby couldn't get TV on (gasp, horror!) so he phoned Brian who came immediately. He was very friendly. Position of cottage is lovely with stretching views to the front. Red Kites circle above. Road mostly very quiet but at times there were a few tractors and farm vehicles. Generally very quiet. Street light turns off around 11pm and not back on until about 6am so it is dark outside. If you like to stargaze then this ideal if you get a clear sky. We had one small window of a cloudless sky and the number of stars and their clarity was amazing. Have to say though that I was disappointed there are no footpaths near the cottage where I could walk the dog away from traffic, (even on her lead), and had to travel to Rhayader to walk along Rhayader Tunnel walk/cycle path (keep dog on lead) and also to visit Gro Park where she could have a run off lead. Also went to Coed Sarnau. Pub is only a minute away (but don't forget to take your torch). Staff and locals very friendly. Food was good and reasonably priced. The steak (Thursday is steak night) with all the trimmings was delicious. A visit to Elan Valley and its 4 dams is a must. We visited after a period of heavy rainfall and it was awesome. As the water cascaded over the dams the noise was deafening. That was definitely the highlight of the holiday. Would have liked to do some of the walks but unfortunately agility not what it used to be. Also visited Gigrin Red Kite Centre. Staff were very friendly and pleasant. Dogs welcome but beware, lots of cats in the yard. If you have never seen Red Kites this is a must. So many birds come in for feeding. However, have to admit to preferring the Resources for Wales site on A44 on way to Aberystwyth. Wanted to visit the Welsh Crystal factory but it was closed the week we were there. If I had to have one negative it is that the Welcome Pack needs updating. Dates of bin collection only showing for 2020. All-in-all a most pleasant break in a beautiful part of our beautiful country. Thank you Brian and Sandra.

2nd time, at this property, and wont be our last.

make sure you pop into local pun, steak night on Thursdays, and they do take out pizza if you need it. visit the red kite Centre for an amazing experience. The property has a log burner which makes it even more cozy.

Fantastic Cottage with all the luxury of home in beautiful surroundings.

A faultless break in a gorgeous place with so many places nearby to visit. Top marks and 10/10 recommendation. We will be back.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay.

Spotless, great facilities. I would recommend putting a warning over the stairs being so narrow, we had to walk up and down with our feet side on for safety. Otherwise 5 star. We loved it and have recommended to friends.

We had a fantastic few days at Green Cottage.

The place was spotless, cozy and comfy. Everything you could possibly need was there. We would totally recommend staying here and we'll return again. Fabulous scenery, great walking area and a log burner to return to!

We had a fantastic time here, very comfy, clean and all you needed to stay in a homely environment.

very dog friendly, and the pub/inn is literally just a 30 second walk, and allows dogs as well as doing beautiful food. You must go and see the Kite Feeding experience. Just a short walk up to green farm, and you can get fresh free range eggs laid that day, £1 for half dozen. Would highly recommend, and would ignore and negative previous comments, they was just being very picky in my opinion.

Green cottage is situated in a quite part of wales, very friendly village and a good pub only 1 min walk from the property.

Very clean and its home from home.

Lovely situation but no mobile phone signal.

If we needed emergency help we would have had to get in the car and drive to where there was a mobile phone signal. I would really appreciate Sykes mentioning this in the details of their properties. In the end we had to buy another Sim card to get calls on a different network. Property details could do with mentioning where to get help locally. Kitchen was short on cutlery and glasses. It needs more tumbler-type and smaller wine glasses. Also the dishwasher was installed as far away from the sink as possible. More recycling boxes would have been appreciated. The bathroom had not really been updated and was generally quite cold. It needs more hooks, rails and shelves – both near the wash basin and next to the shower, also a bath mat as the floor would be dirty from people coming straight into the bathroom from outside. The toilet seat was loose. Better lighting would be a plus. Staircase only had a fixed rail one side and was quite narrow. For safety’s sake I would have installed a rope handrail going up the other side – which would not take up much room. All the floors (apart from the stairs) had hard flooring, we could have done with a small rug each side of the bed to mitigate against the cold. TV in the main bedroom had no manual and did not receive any live channels, although we did get it linked to the Wi Fi later in the week after some effort.

This is a charming little cottage in a rural location.

So peaceful, never slept so well. Would definitely return. Had a lovely weeks holiday.

Lovely little cottage, this is our second stay and couldn’t wait to go back.

Lovely location, great for walks (Elan Valley is just short drive away). The only negative point about this cottage is that the sofa’s aren’t very comfortable but everything else is spot on, it wouldn’t put us off from staying again. Brian (the owner) is very friendly and popped by to make sure everything was ok.

Very peaceful and quiet.

Had everything we need. Facilities were in good working orders. Enclosed garden is safe for dog running. The owners Brian and Sandra were very responsive! Only issue was I didn't find kids entertainment in the local area. Overall a very positive experience!

The Cottage was perfect, warm and cosy.

Very clean on arrival, nicely renoved, alot of time has definitely been spent on this cottage making it look homely and warming. The garden was great for our two hyper dogs, cottage had everything we needed for our stay. Local and great walking spots, easy or harder walks. Great Chinese (wings Chinese). In the centre. Only things we would recommend is, netting on gate as smaller dogs could get through, more bin bags for black indoor bin, Maybe something to cut up pizza or some scissors. Other than this cottage was great, would definitely recommend and return in future. Thank you for having us.

Lovely little cottage, well equipped and comfortable.

Lovely quiet location too, we had a relexing holiday and can't wait to go back.

This cottage has been refurbished to a high standard.

It is very comfortable and although fairly isolated the 2 minute walk to the local pub is great. Would recommend the pub food. The owner is lovely and popped by to say hello. We would return to this cottage when restrictions allow.

Very well presented cottage with a good size garden for the dogs.

No shop nearby so make sure you have the necessities with you. Ideal if you want a really relaxing time of a base to exp!it's mix Wales.

Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings.

Host & local people very friendly.

What a lovely cottage, ideal for us and our two dogs.

The secure garden took all the worry out of our stay. Breathtaking scenery around the area too just wish we had stayed longer.

The cottage had all we needed and the scenery from the upstairs windows and surrounding area were spectacular the hosts were also very helpful.

When walking up the lane with are dogs the local farmers would stop and talk which made us feel very welcome we would love to go back again and will pass on details to family and friends all the best from Kevin and Margaret

Absolutely beautiful cottage and location.

Green cottage was very light and immaculately clean with everything we needed for a week away. The views are stunning, overlooking fields filled with sheep and cows just across the lane with magnificent mountains behind. The area was so peaceful and quiet, just what we needed. We definitely plan to return.

Everything was perfect, location, facilities, cleanliness.

Tried to rebook when we were there but the dates we wanted were unavailable.

This is a lovely, comfortable cottage with modern facilities and a peaceful atmosphere.

It has a fully enclosed, good-sized garden which is perfect if you have a dog, and includes a sun-trap outdoor eating area. The cottage is newly completed, so everything is in immaculate condition, and the layout makes it somehow feel bigger than it actually is. We loved watching the red kites from the bedroom window. The owners are welcoming and very keen that everything should be in order, and left us the makings for a cup of tea and a snack on arrival, and a bottle of wine which was enjoyed under the stars on the last night! We definitely hope to return. Thanks for everything, Bryan and Sandra, and good luck!
