Description

This characterful cottage is located near the town of Abergavenny, with views across to the Blorenge Mountain and a direct footpath from the rear, bringing you up onto Sugar Loaf.

Situated on the owner’s grounds with a neighbouring working farm and an enclosed garden, The Barn is a wonderful place to stay whatever the time of year.

Upon entering, you will discover the open-plan living area; one side houses a lounge with a leather sofa and a collection of arm chairs, sitting adjacent to an electric fire.

To the other side of the room, a dining table is set up for four people, somewhere comfortable for the family to gather after an adventure filled afternoon.

With the addition of Sky TV, and a Nintendo Wii, you will be kept occupied for hours.

Upstairs in the cottage, there are two bedrooms; a charming twin room, and a double bed, which looks out over rural views, a natural backdrop to wake up to.

Start your mornings by getting ready in the lovely bathroom, then wander down to the kitchen, for those delicious refreshments or a warm cup of tea.

Large windows accompany the ground floor, so you can be at one with the location, wherever you choose to go about your day - even better, a large 'barn door' gives access to the rear garden which benefits from a patio and seating area.

A prime local area for walking and close to a pub.

Nestling between the seven mountains, with the River Usk flowing through the centre, Abergavenny boasts a castle with its own museum, churches, an indoor market hall, good shops and a multitude of pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as hosting the annual food festival, as well as taking a visit to the book town of Hay on Wye.

Beautiful walks through the Wye Valley and Vale of Usk, or along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal are close by, with Crickhowell, not forgetting the breath-taking Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and Black Mountains.

A getaway not to be missed.

The downstairs at the Barn were spacious and reasonably comfortable.

Upstairs with the sloping ceilings either side meant limited headroom in the bedrooms and particularly in the bathroom. The property needs work to bring it up to standard. The table and chairs outside need either replacing or oiling. All of the windows were in need of a very good clean, handprints, cobwebs. With some tlc would be beneficial as the location is perfect, very peaceful and on a good location.

Unfortunately we found the general level of cleanliness far below what we have been used to with other properties.

On our first day we had to clean all the dust and grease marks off cutlery and crockery. The mattress in the beds gave us back ache due to how old they are. For those that bring a dog, beware as the property does not have any paths into the adjacent hills and forest as land is fenced off with barbedwire. This is deceptive due to how the property pictures illustrate the surroundings.

Lovely place close to everything but shame you can't walk from the cottage as the footpaths aren't maintained anymore
