Riverside Barn

Lovely location ,peaceful with facilities for grandchildren.

Our visit was during one of the heatwaves and some limited access because of the fires on the tops , this didn’t stop us cycling, paddleboarding or walking . Some of smoke did create an atmosphere which was magical, would visit again at a different time of year .

Our host Simon was excellent a couple of minor issues were dealt with immediately.

The property was excellent for our family including our autistic grandson who wants to go back and stay he loved his room in the eves. Although originally from the area had never visited the Big Pit which was a hit for all. A lovely walk along the canal by three members of the family.

The team said the accommodation is lovely and parking is good as it's an electric gate to park on the drive with plenty of space! We will use if in the area again!

Had a very relaxing time at Riverside Barn.

The owner, Simon, made us feel very welcome. The cottage is beautiful, more spacious than photos. Very peaceful, surrounded by gorgeous countryside. Lots of interesting places including the Sugar Loaf and Canal walk only a short drive away. Hope to return.

The owner Simon gave us a warm welcome and introduction to the area which was really appreciated. Our accommodation was warm and comfortable and situated in a lovely area for walking.

Perfect for our needs.

2 double rooms on the ground floor. A twin/zip link on the first floor. Very comfortable beds, with good quality linen. The kitchen area was well equipped with plenty of crockery for 6 people. It was very helpful to have a washing machine. Riverside barn is very close to Abergavenny. There are several food stores and a good range of restaurants. Simon, the owner was always available if needed. This was our 4th stay and I am sure we will be back.

Advice and guidance for access first class. Accommodation very handy for many scenic trips which we enjoyed. We have no criticism at all about the booking, but a couple of things would have made it perfect - a dishwasher, and possibly a grab handle of sorts over the bath for the more senior citizens as entry and exit can be quite awkward. Apart from that - perfect! Thank you.

The place was well equipped and the location really great, just a few minutes walk to the local pubs! There was one inaccuracy on the listing where it was described as having a pool table, but sadly there wasn’t. Aside from this, we had an excellent stay. Thanks very much!

We have stayed at many self catering properties, but this one was the nicest place ever.

Riverside barn is in a lovely rural setting in an area that we hadn't visited before. The owners allowed us free range to explore the beautiful grounds to their land. It was a nice relaxing holiday with plenty of outside seating and tables. The barn is very comfortable and well equipped. Gilwern is a nice village and the Beaufort Inn serves a very good meal and has an extensive menu. The owners are friendly and unobtrusive. Overall I would recommend Riverside barn and would very much like to visit this special place again...and again!

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage that provided a great base for our visit to Wales.

The only thing that was lacking was a dishwasher - with the level of spec and interior design it would really boost the amenities of the cottage.

This was our 3rd visit.

It is in a perfect place for us to visit old friends and we will be booking again. A member of the family welcomed us on arrival. They were available for the whole visit but we're not intrusive. The barn is always very clean. It is well equiped. The master bed is the best we have ever slept in at a holiday rental.

The accommodation is very spacious and comfortable and the children loved playing outside. There is lots to do in the area - cycling, kayaking, pony trekking, walking and more. We had a brilliant holiday and hope to stay again.

We had a great week at Riverside Barn.

The owners were very helpful. The location was great for walking and exploring the local area. The little games room went down particularly well with our 2 boys.

This was our second visit to Riverside Barn and I am sure it will not be our last.

It is very clean and well equiped. The beds are so comfortable. Having 2 bedrooms on the ground floor is perfect if you have reduced mobility. The 1st floor bedroom is huge. Total peace and quiet with great hosts who are helpful but not intrusive. Just knock the door and they will help in any way they can. Lovely to watch the birds feeding in the garden. Perfect

Lovely comfortable accommodation which is well equipped. Great base for exploring the. black Mountains. Would most certainly return!

This is a nice quiet location with off-road parking.

It is very spacious accommodation, which would suit a family. Facilities are good. The bed was really comfortable It is an easy walk into Gilwern. Simon, the host, is really helpful. Our only criticism is that the TV is old. While holidays are not all about watching TV it was such that text on screen could not be read as it "falls" off either side of the screen.

Beautiful place to stay.

Very spacious, we loved the high barn roof construction. Plenty of space in the twin room for adult guests. Only slight critism......not mine, my visitors like to chill out in the bath and this was sometimes awkward when older ones needed the bathroom in a hurry.

This is the third year we have stayed at Riverbarn and just like the previous two years it was idyllic.

Riverbarn itself is all you could want with plenty of room for a large family or group of friends, it is a perfect place to stay and tour South Wales or into Herefordshire. The garden area which you can use is peaceful and quiet with hardly a sound of any traffic The owners who live in the farmhouse on site could not be better hosts, friendly and very helpful As I said this was our third visit and my wife and I will most certainly be back as often as we can

We've already spoken to Simon about some items.

New slow cooker is ordered after original proved dangerous. Wooden spoon requested but apparently these can harbour bacteria. Altogether a very good stay with comfort and warmth into the bargain. Friendly owners who did their best to help us get the best out of the holiday cottage. Brilliant all round, we would definitely stay again

The barn is beautiful and in a wonderful location.

Unfortunately due to the high bath, making it completely inaccessible for my mother we left a day early as she was unable to shower. An additional toilet/en-suite would be a great addition to the property too.

Had a lovely week , plenty of leaflets and information on where to visit, not enough information on recycling etc , also it said riverside but you couldn’t get to river at all , very quiet surroundings

Our stay at Riverside Barn was perfect.

The additions of the Christmas decorations and a tree made it even more special. The barn was very cosy and warm and had everything we needed for our weekend away. The owners were very helpful and on hand if we needed anything but equally respected our privacy too. We'll hopefully be back next year!

It is well sited close to the Brecon Beacons and is easily accessible. The owner was helpful and friendly.

When listing appliances available it would be helpful to mention a hairdryer.

My wife and I both thought that the property was all we expected, great location excellent accommodation, quiet and peaceful The owners were really nice and very helpful and the standard of facilities in the property was second to none.

Simon, the owner was friendly, helpful and a great source of information - he gave us tips and ideas for days out which made our holiday extra special. We enjoyed lots of walks in the local area and further afield - there was certainly plenty to do and we didn't want to leave and go home!

Thanks to Simon who was very helpful. Just a quick note - The directions are out of date as the road from the A40 is now closed, so we needed to access the cottage via the Heads of the Valleys road, through Gilwern village.

Friendly and helpful hosts. Walking distance of village facilities and canal walks. Short drive to major facilities in Abergavenny. High quality interior fittings and furniture in solid oak. Single bathroom OK for 4 but additional shower would help for 6 person letting. Similarly a dishwasher would help for 6 persons.

Great location, beautiful barn, wonderful host, very happy. Situated just north of Abergavenny, this barn is fantastic. Spacious lounge combined with kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and a games room. The host is fab, and it's wonderful to go for walks around the farm and down to the river. There are so many places to visit nearby. we had a wonderful holiday.

The accommodation had everything we could possibly need and more!! The rooms are spacious, light and airy and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. There is also a lovely garden to enjoy and the owner is welcoming and helpful. Riverside Barn is ideally located with plenty of nearby hills for keen walkers to tackle and the lovely canal towpath for a more leisurely stroll. We would highly recommend this property.

There is so much to do especially if you enjoy being outside - beautiful part of Wales and well worth a visit. Cottage is really well equipt especially if you have children, loads of books and lovely games to play. Very warm and quiet - perfect. It’s a must!

What a beautiful cottage/barn you relax from the second you walk in. Everything is finished to the highest standard and there is everything you need (and more) at hand. Simon the owner was there to greet us when we arrived and talked us through a few things and to gave me his number if we needed anything, the farmhouse in just across courtyard but we never saw them after that. There is a lovely games room if you have children although my son and husband liked the air hockey. 3 lovely sized bedrooms, one with a stable barn door which added to the feel. Outside the back door there is a lovely sitting area where you can have a coffee or just relax looking out over the large beautiful tended garden. There is also a summer house for use with bbqs and swinging hammock etc with a large table and chairs for dining al fresco. A little walk up the lane takes you to the toll path inn which sits alongside the canal where we sat watching the barges come and go. One mile in the opposite direction is. ‘The Bell’ where we had a wonderful meal. Definitely one to try, we will be back.

The cottage is very good and comfortable.

Only slight problem is the access roads very narrow but if used to driving on narrow roads then no problem. Very peaceful but need to mention the freezer is outside and shared.

Lovely location - we walked into Abergavenny which was a little bit of road walking followed by miles of amazing scenery along the river. Only things I would say can be improved with the cottage- needs a dishwasher!! Softer pillows would be nice, and more kitchen provisions (there was no bottle opener, foil, very few knives etc) and toilet roll! All small things and was still amazing would definitely return.

The cottage was great, it was nice and clean, only downside was the low ceiling in the bathroom which ment I could not shower standing upright but that is the only downside of this cottage.

Ideal for walking , sightseeing or just pottering about

Your use of homeaway lead generator/SEO was extremely detrimental to the booking experience.

I was livid to learn that they had charged me £30 purely for the lead generation and not made the booking as expected, causing me to have to repeat the whole process with less time to spare and causing more stress. If I had more time to spare prior to the holiday I would have walked away and Sykes would have lost the booking, all good will and any future bookings. Only my time constraint caused me to call and the helpful staff working on Sunday turned it around enough to retain the booking. You are doing yourself a great disservice with your business relationship with Homeaway. I can't recommend strongly enough that you end it and just do a bit of SEO work on your own behalf. Without Homeaway I should still have found the property via the Sykes website as it fit my criteria and there aren't that many which did. As it was, the booking process generated a lot of unnecessary stress and left a bad tase in the mouth.

This is a beautiful barn conversion in a stunning area of Wales, the standard of the barn is top notch and cannot fault this place.

Me and my family had a wonderful week here and would very much like to return in the future.

The cottage was modern and comfortable and the location was ideal, with high-quality equipment, furnishings and bedding.

There was plenty of space inside and out for us to relax in. We arrived to find flowers, milk and Welsh cakes waiting for us. The owner was helpful when we needed an extension lead and suggested places to eat locally. Along with the beautiful weather, all of this contributed to a relaxing holiday. Thank you!
