What guests are saying
While the property was very clean and generally well-equipped, there were a few niggles which affected our stay (but they are very personal).
The good ... - Spotlessly clean. - Loads of cutlery & crockery, and generally well-equipped. - Good value for money. - Great location for short drives to some fantastic coastal walking. - St David's has good shops, both a reasonable supermarket and independents. The bad ... - There was no bread knife which made cutting freshly-baked loaves very challenging. - None of the three kitchen-diner windows opened (the two casements just wouldn't move, even though the handles turned, and there was no pole to open the Velux). - The bathroom sink was uncomfortably low and toilet roll holder in a very awkward position, both of which were a particular problem for our bad backs. - Limited storage and counter space for a week's worth of full self-catering. - Probably a one-off but the washing machine had a sign saying that it was out of order which turned out not to be true (but we didn't find out until after having done two small loads by hand on the bath, not having brought enough clothes for the entire week). We would have expected whoever checked the property after the previous guests to have noticed that. And the warnings ... - Not much good walking from the door. - The double bed is very soft. - The previous guests had clearly brought a dog since we found some fleas when we arrived.
We always enjoy visiting this part of Pembrokeshire and The Stables was a peaceful haven for us.
We and the dog felt comfortable and at home. It was hard to leave and go back to currently not so quiet rural Gloucestershire. (Think regular take offs and landings of American war planes and you will understand what I mean!) Unfortunately, the washing machine was out of order (there was a clear note on it from the owners to say so). This was not a problem for us, but some people may have booked thinking that they would be able to use it during their stay and have been disappointed by this fact. Otherwise we missed having a proper serrated bread knife to use but that’s a very small thing!
Lovely property in a quiet location.
Comfy beds and lots of modern comfort with a rustic edge. Big plus was an electric oven as that's what we have at home. Its very easy from the property to access lots of local attractions and other parts of Pembrokeshire. Great beaches not far away with super clean water. Could probably have stayed for another week.
