Situated on the south Pembrokeshire coast, Amroth is a popular holiday destination, with many visitors returning year after year.
At low tide, the beach at Amroth stretches up to a kilometre to the east and the Pembrokeshire coast path starts or ends here depending on which direction you are walking. Nearby are the Colby Woodland Gardens, Folly Farm and a little further afield you will find Oakwood Theme Park and the towns of Saundersfoot and Tenby. In the village, you will find two pubs, a couple of cafes, a grocery store and an ice cream parlour.
Planning a weekend away in Amroth? Here are some of the best places to visit during your stay…
1. Visit the Colby Woodland Garden
The Colby Woodland Garden is a beautiful woodland garden, owned by the National Trust. With acres of beautifully maintained gardens, you’ll easily spend hours wandering through the vibrant displays of wildflower meadows and enchanting pathways lined with Japanese Redwoods. The gardens are also home to plenty of wildlife, so be sure to keep a keen eye out for the resident otters and birds.
2. Soak up the sunshine on Amroth Beach
Amroth Beach boasts golden sands and a Blue Flag award, making it a popular destination for both visitors and locals alike. When the tide is low there’s plenty of space for beach activities, so it’s worth checking the tide times before you head out. Part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, this lovely beach offers plenty of opportunities for bathing, paddling, and rockpooling along its shores. For those visiting with dogs, there are restrictions between 1st May & 30th September on the central and western end of the beach.
3. Get everyone together for a day of laser combat at Battlefield Live Pembrokeshire
A great day out for families and groups of friends, Battlefield Live Pembrokeshire lets you run wild through the woodlands as you compete with your team – it’s like paintball but with unlimited ammo and without the fear of getting pelted. If you’ve ever been put off these kinds of activities by the thought of ending up bruised after a competitive match of paintball, then it’s certainly worth a try!
4. Take a swim at the nearby Telpyn Beach
If you prefer to escape the crowds, then be sure to make your way over to Telpyn Beach. Set on the eastern end of Amroth’s main beach, this long sandy stretch is perfect for sunbathing and swimming in the warm summer months. Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round, so there’s no need to worry about any seasonal restrictions if you’re planning on bringing your pooch along for a seaside holiday. There’s parking available around ½ mile east of Amroth, but you can reach Telpyn Beach by foot from the village if you don’t mind a decent walk.
5. Enjoy the sights on horseback at Marros Riding Centre
The Marros Riding Centre in Pendine lets you enjoy the glorious sights of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path on horseback. This riding school is very beginner-friendly; offering a one-hour trek through the surrounding woodlands for riders of all abilities to enjoy. This scenic route takes you through unspoilt ancient woodlands, passing by pretty streams and winding forest paths. If you’re a little more experienced, you can enjoy an exhilarating beach ride along the shores of Pendine Sands.
6. Enjoy a family day out at the Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo
The Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo in Begelly is ideal for families. Just a short ten-minute drive from the village of Amroth, this popular park is home to over 750 animals and a fantastic selection of fairground rides. As well as the petting zoo, you’ll also find some more exotic inhabitants here – including lions, zebras, camels, and the endangered Eastern black rhino. Be sure to check out the newly-added Sloth Forest – a retirement home for Tupee and Lightcap, who have reached their golden years.
