The pictures really don’t do it justice, you have to see the place in person to appreciate just how fantastic it is. I loved how much thought has gone into the property. Everything you could possibly need is there on site, which made the whole weekend incredibly easy and enjoyable. The beer garden and outdoor space were brilliant too, giving us a fantastic area to relax, socialise and enjoy the weekend together. It was the perfect setup for a stag do and gave us everything we needed ...

The beer garden and outdoor space were brilliant too, giving us a fantastic area to relax, socialise and enjoy the weekend together. It was the perfect setup for a stag do and gave us everything we needed without having to worry about travelling around. Everyone in the town was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I’d highly recommended the butchers next door, which was well worth a visit, as well as the local shooting range nearby. The owner was fantastic throughout our stay and incredibly helpful. We had a small issue with the beer tap, but they were able to assist and get it sorted within an hour, which was brilliant. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better venue. We had an absolutely fantastic weekend and would highly recommend staying here. We’d definitely come back in the future!

“The property is an exceptional place to stay.”

Has absolutely everything you’d need from kitchen appliances/equipment to games machines and entertainment. It suits ALL ages from 6 months to 65! The bar itself is the communal meeting place and offers an array of different drinks which you can choose yourself. So much fun! The customer service is always quick & helpful. We had a small issue regarding one of the drink pumps, that was resolved amicably. Just amazing. Wonderful memories made for our family of 20!

“Great Place a few Minor Quibbles Myself and a group of 17 other lads stayed here from from Thursday to Sunday on a stag do.”

On arrival we were impressed with the pub itself and the facilities available, it's a proper good old fashioned pub with nice fire place and oak beams throughout. Quirky upstairs rooms and more modern 'curly tail' annex accommodation. The beer garden is lovely and large bbq got plenty of use. Whilst the stay was comfortable and pleasant a few things could make the experience a little better; The drinks cleaner machine in the bar needs attention, this didn't clean the glasses and gave off an unpleasant smell so we had to wash the glasses the kitchen & laundry areas. The hot tub which the owner kindly turned right down to 28degs as it was a very hot weekend, perhaps needs a little more chlorine as it was hardly used yet went cloudy after 2 days. The beer garden area would benefit from a TV in summer months as the games room got very warm whilst watching the world cup matches. The owner kept £100 of the security deposit after an issue with the TV being moved & a broken key however largely the owner was helpful and patient and even arranged delivery of an extra keg of beer when it ran out after 2 days. The town itself is also lovely with a seemingly endless of amount of pubs and lovely Cafe (Herbies). Ideal for Hen & Stag weekends but please read the arrival / departure instructions!

“What a place, it was everything we expected and more.”

Booked for my husbands 50th and i couldn't have asked for a better place to host the weekend. It was so clean we were arrived and Darren had kindly accepted the Tesco shop and put it away for us. The bar area was amazing and we were able to cater for ourselves all weekend using the kitchen which included a roast dinner. The outside are was a sun trap which we loved. “It was a great place for 16 of us from all over England to meet up in beautiful Shropshire countryside that most of them had never been to before.”

The accommodation in the Curly Tail is better than most hotels I have used, the bedrooms in the main building a bit more boutique. The bar and restaurant area was ideal to meet, talk, drink and sing at the end of the day and more than big enough to accommodate us all. The snug provide a quiet area to retreat to if needed. More than one of us was found dozing in there. Due to the extreme heat during our stay, the garden area was not really used except for the odd al fresco breakfast but was a comfortable area to sit and chat. The lay out of the kitchen is a bit odd. Making a cup of tea or coffee in the morning could get interesting. Kettles at the opposite end to the sinks and then walking back again to the fridge while 10 others were preparing their breakfasts. Several people commented on this.

The kettles being at the restaurant door end where desserts were prepped when I was open to the public so mire streamline for service without disruption to thr chef and cooking areas. “We have had another fabulous weekend at the pub to celebrate my husbands 50th.”

The new bedroom is lovely so you can now sleep 25. Darren was lovely and left us some desserts in the dessert fridge. We cooked for 27 on Saturday and Sunday night. The bbq was a good size. The dishwasher in the kitchen did start to struggle in the end so we washed by hand. Darren responded very quickly to any queries we had. The hot tub was a bit cloudy but we still used it, I believe it was the chemicals. This is our 2nd time there and it certainly won’t be our last.

“The accommodation was fantastic.”

We visited for a stag do, and everyone thought hiring our own pub was an excellent idea. The facilities were really good, including the sauna and hot tub, and Darren was an exceptional host - quick to respond to emails and even went the extra mile to source us a keg that wasn’t on the original list. The only slight downside was that we couldn’t find the fourth bedroom, which seemed to be locked. Everyone we met locally was very friendly and welcoming in every pub we visited, and they were forthcoming with recommendations.

“What a place!”

It's perfect for a group of friends. 22 of us went for the weekend and it did not disappoint. Plenty of rooms and different sections so you can do what you want without being on top of one another. Great outdoor area with a hot tub and bbq. The games room has plenty to offer, also including boardgames for families/kids while also having drinking games for adult groups. Located in a lovely little village, we went to two pubs on the Friday while waiting to go into ours, we also went for Sunday lunch which was great. Plenty to do all round for any group. We all thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely come back. We left yesterday and by this evening the bond has been returned in full. Thank you so much for having us Darren. You have a wonderful home. “I booked The Boar's Head for my 40th and wanted to create a fun British Soap style pub for the weekend.”

It did not disappoint! It really is a classic British pub, absolutely perfect for the occasion. I had 20 friends and we had a blast, I will never get over this weekend. From the bar, to the dancefloor, to the hot tub to cooking breakfast in the industrial kitchen, it was epic! This was not like booking a 2 bed Air BnB. This is a huge old pub, sleeping 23 people. We did find a few things confusing and there wasn't clear instructions for everything. For the coffee machine I was told to search on YouTube. When I said I couldn't work it, I was told again to look on YouTube, which wasn't helpful. The pub is old and therefore gets cold at night. The manual said the heating is on constantly, but the radiators were definitely not on at night, it was cold. They did however come on in the morning. We had lots of questions leading up to the event as we had so many things to organise. Darren was helpful and booked a bar man for us and lights/music equipment from a local supplier. The Sykes app is not great and documents that were sent prior to our arrival did not open properly so we had to contact Sykes a few times and also Darren. It would be great if Sykes could update their app so that we can get all the info we need and not have to contact Darren as much. Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that in your first night yiu felt cold, but there were only 3 of you that night and a huge property for so few people especially being 400 years old it could seem that way. Perhaps if you had lit the fire that was laid ready for you it would have helped, I was surprised to see it had not been used. I take it that it was just the first night as bedroom fans were downstairs I guess to cool you all down from the dancing. The coffee machine amongst other things people find all part of the experience by having a go or watching a YouTube but I understand that you found it confusing. I leave both water and heating on constant set at 22 so if the radiators were cold then the temperature must not have dropped below that point. Every bedroom has additional blankets as does the TV lounge. I really appreciate your booking and am pleased it gave you the birthday you had hoped for abd Perhaps more. Kr Darren Property Owner

The space is generous and works well for larger groups, with plenty of room to spend time together comfortably. The kitchen facilities are excellent and well-equipped, which made catering for everyone straightforward. The rooms are clean and all lovely, and there are some great shared spaces, including a games room and BBQ area. The hot tub and sauna were a fabulous addition and gave us a chance to relax. The host was very responsive and quick to reply to any questions, which we really appreciated Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to celebrate with a larger group of friends or family looking to spend time together.

All amenities, including hot tub, sauna and games room were perfect for our stay. The pub even has the added bonus of Sky TV which meant we could watch all the weekend's sports. This property and its facilities are truly exceptional. We booked The Boars Head to celebrate my husband’s birthday, with friends travelling from various parts of England, and it exceeded all expectations. Bishop’s Castle itself is a wonderful location, and the venue is simply fantastic — a real hidden gem. The reviews we read beforehand were absolutely spot on. Darren, the owner, and Sykes were incredibly helpful and attentive from start to finish. No question was too small, and every query was answered promptly and professionally, which made the whole experience seamless. The facilities are second to none — everything you could possibly need is provided. A fun highlight was friends (who had never been behind a bar before!) learning how to pour a pint. We also visited The Three Tuns, as recommended, for Sunday lunch, and it was excellent. This was a truly memorable experience, and we will be talking about The Boars Head for years to come. In fact, we’re already planning a return visit next year.

“We hired this beautiful pub to celebrate three 50th birthdays, and it was absolutely perfect.”

The place has a lovely rustic feel and was spotlessly clean, with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The hot tub was a massive hit with everyone, and the ladies especially loved the sauna, which you can access from inside the property. The fire added such a cosy, homely touch to the evenings. We also had a barrel of beer, a barrel of Guinness, and Pepsi on tap — all of which were excellent and really added to the whole experience. We would love to come back and stay longer next time, as the surrounding area looks beautiful and well worth exploring. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a special group getaway.

“The property in the pub is very comfy, the bar and snug areas are just perfect for gathering or just to retire off.”

The Curly tail accommodation also was superb for that extra bit of escaping the pub and very spacious. The layout of the whole place was perfect, nobody felt under each others way. Just a tip, pub bedrooms are slightly on a hill ( no it’s not how drunk you are). It was that good there, one of our family members got proposed too in the bar area. Xxx

“This place is an absolute gem.”

We had a brilliant weekend here and made some awesome memories we will remember forever. Accommodation was comfy and well presented. The bar and pub area is one of the cosiest places I've been in a long long time. With a great room to watch sport on a massive TV. We had activities planned in the afternoons but the real star and excitement was from being at the venue itself. Having been a barman 10 years ago it was great to get behind the bar and have fun with it. The location has plenty of food establishments with a wide range of cuisine and there's a huge spar shop across the road which was super convenient. This place is incredibly unique and the owner Darren was very helpful. Would 100% recommend and come back.

“This place is amazing!”

! We were a group of 18 people, with dogs in tow, who stayed here to celebrate my husband’s 50th. We were a mix of ages and all had so much fun. The bedrooms are lovely, kitchen facilities are fantastic, and the pub itself is just so full of charm. We loved the hot tub in the garden and our teenage kids loved the games room. We had a dabble with the karaoke. It was really fun having our own lock-in every night. All in all such a unique experience, I would highly recommend it.

Would highly recommend for others considering booking for group stays/family gatherings. The property was presented beautifully, the bar area was great for getting together in the evenings, games room went down well with the kids & adults, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was ample to cook up dinner for everyone. The local butcher is well worth ordering from, we even ordered to take some home with us. Communication with Darren was great throughout and he was always quick to respond to any questions I had. “Absolutely fantastic property for a large group of friends.”

All the facilities you could want. Rooms are well appointed and very comfy. Having the bar set up with kegs of beer and traditional bar snacks made the experience even better. The group really enjoyed the games room, big tv room to catch up on sport, hot tub and garden area with bbq. Due to the large open plan kitchen and crockery on open shelves, some items were found dirty. Could have done with a slightly later check out time to allow for cleaning before departure. It was a very early start.

Thank you for your booking and feedback. It sounds like you really made the best of the property. Please accept my apologies over any dust issues on top plates, but I personally check each plate, cutlery and kitchen items myself before every arrival, however the nature of a commercial kitchen us such that things are on open shelves and not in cupboards and in reality this can happen. I don't intend on changing it, but should it be anything more than that I would expect a call as per the information sent prior to arrival so that we can return and rectify any issues within the first 24hrs. Departure time being 10am is something that unless there is no same day arrival I am not able to extend. It is not just the domestic cleaning but the hot tub and cellar pipes all of which take time, as I change the water as per health and safety guidelines every departure. I always suggest that the tasks are divided up amounts the 20 or so people staying that way many hands make light work. Thank you again and I look forward to your return. Property Owner

“It was amazing from start to finish!”

A lovely and quirky place. The area downstairs was just beautiful and well maintained, along with the kitchen being great - never seen anywhere as well equipped! The out door area was lovely too, and the hotub was brilliant. All of the beds were amazingly comfortable and we all had a lot of space each (20 of us all in one place!) we absolutely loved the pub and definitely want to go back. A group of us came for my husbands 50th birthday. The pub is fantastic. A great place for a party. Kitchen is brilliant and everything you could possibly need. Outside garden is great along with the hot tub and sauna. All rooms were lovely and clean and spacious. We had a problem with one of the toilets but this was rectified and someone sent out within a couple of hours. Could not fault anything and would highly recommend

“We (a group of 24, 12 adults and 12 children) have just returned home from The Boars Head, having booked it for 3 nights for my 30th birthday.”

Booking process was really easy and the owner Darren, gets back to your queries before, during and after your stay, very quickly. We ordered ale on tap and a shop to be delivered before we checked in. Ale was ready and working from the moment we arrived and all our shopping had been put away for us. Little touches like this I found really helpful amongst the chaos of arriving with so many people. The idea and property is really unique and a fantastic experience to hire your own pub for a celebration. There are lots of different things at the property, the games room really kept the children entertained, the hot tub and sauna was a favourite with the adults and the tiki bar outside made a great addition to our themed cocktail hour. The bar and kitchen is stocked with plenty of glasses, dishes, cutlery etc for all different uses, my only suggestion would be that the kettles/toasters could do with being renewed but this didn't really impact our stay. We managed to cook two big breakfasts, 3 nights of buffet food and a roast dinner, so the kitchen had plenty of use. General overall cleanliness was good, the beds were really comfy, the annexes were more modern than the pub but I loved the character of the pub as it went really well with all our themed nights. We had everything from a glam night to a western, and even a slumber/games night, we got some fabulous pictures and had a fantastic time celebrating. Location is good, having a shop over the road came in really handy and a few members of the group enjoyed going on walks to explore over the 3 days. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and it is definitely somewhere we would book again, should another event come up and we recieved our deposit back in full the day after leaving without any issues. “Just back from an amazing weekend at the pub.”

Accomdation was clean and comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed and we cooked full fry up and a Sunday roast for 25 people. The games room kept everyone occupied. We had ordered beer to have on tap and everyone enjoyed pouring their own pints. Definitely a 50th birthday to remember. The owner has been great with a prompt return payment of the housekeeping bond and sorting out some things that got left and needed posting back. Think this may turn in to an annual thing for us.

“We have just returned from a weekend stay.”

There were 23 of us for my daughter’s hen weekend. The property is beautiful. We had such a great stay. Everyone commented on how nice it was. It had so much space. The hot tub was a hit with most of the group. A huge kitchen so we could make breakfast in the morning. The bedrooms were all spacious and comfortable. The only thing we struggled with working was the karaoke in the games room. We had an excellent stay and would return again.

The pub couldn't have been better suited. Accommodation on site was great, and the pub facilities were exactly what we needed for a weekend of drinks, games, sports (6 nations, football etc) and generally having a good laugh. Before we even arrived, Darren was more than helpful in recommendations for the local area and generally ensuring we were ready for the weekend. We ordered beer through Darren at a perfectly reasonable price, and he kindly came to change some of the barrels throughout the weekend near enough as soon as we asked. Lots of talk of wanting to come back again! If you're reasonable with Darren and clean up after yourselves, he's more than reasonable with you.

“We had a really brilliant few days at the Boars Head Pub.”

The owners could not have been more helpful and the pub was cosy and comfortable. They’d put some beer on for us plus some extras (cider and soft drinks) which was super appreciated. Such fun pulling our own pints and reminiscing about past pub work in our youth. There was lots to do for all ages; fab games room with pool, darts, table football, air hockey plus full karaoke set up and plenty of board and card games. The hot tub was clean and large enough for 6-8 adults to be comfortable (more kids!). Bishops castle itself was charming with everything you’d need (more pubs, takeaway, garage open til 10) and some really stunning circular walks from the property. We’d love to come back.

“Great property for a family get together.”

Everybody enjoyed our week and we ranged in age from 70 to 1 year. There was lots to do in the house and plenty of countryside to explore. Bishops Castle is an interesting town. There was a park 5 minutes walk from the house that was great for walking the dogs and for the grandchildren. We mostly did our own catering, Darren kindly received our supermarket order and put it all away. The Spa across the road was useful to top up supplies. We did have a great Indian takeaway meal from the Chai Shop. All in all a great week.

We had our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations here. The place exceeded our expectations. Every single bed was extremely comfortable, everyone slept well. The snug, a comfy place where we did a quiz and you can chill and watch both sports and movies. An area just off the main bar area where you can play board games. The bar area, beer pumps, activated if requested, a barista coffee machine, glass washer, every type of glass you can imagine. An area outside for the smokers, sheltered from rain, with heaters and chairs and tables. The hot tub is huge. This is a unique place to share time with your family and friends. Definitely 10 out of 10. Thank you for helping us make some wonderful memories.

“15 of us on a stag do.”

In a pub. What could go wrong? Turns out nothing at all. The Boars Head is a great place to celebrate with friends or family, for a long weekend or a whole week. The pub itself is very traditional (plenty of bumped heads on the low beams!), but with a great games room, snug/TV room and back garden with hot tub and barbecues. The Spa opposite has plenty of choice for food and drink. The kitchen and bar have enough glasses, plates, cutlery etc to feed and water an army. We cooked breakfast every morning in the kitchen with no issues at all. The rooms and bathrooms were all very clean and comfortable. Communication with Darren was great and the beers we ordered were all ready to go as soon as we arrived. Ignore the one bad review - as long as you leave the place as you found it, there's nothing to worry about. Make sure to keep the back entrance closed up. We left the gate open whilst waiting for a late arrival and found a couple wandering the pub after letting themselves in through the garden! Some extra signage stating that it is not open to the public would be useful. The local countryside is very picturesque and would be great for long walks and exploring. We'd highly recommend the Boars Head and would love to return one day. Thanks for a great weekend.

“We had an amazing weekend at the Boar's Head, it is the perfect place for a big group to go.”

The facilities are brilliant; the games room kept everyone busy, the TVs were perfect for watching sports (it was the Euro quarterfinal weekend) and the kitchen/BBQ were perfect for catering. That's all not to mention the fun of being behind your own bar! The owner was very responsive and helpful, the town is really sweet and lovely for a wander about. The only slight drawback is that there is only a standard dishwasher which made washing for 21 people a little tricky; a slightly more industrial one would have been ideal. But nothing a large conveyor belt of people couldn't fix. Overall a delightful weekend, I would highly recommend a visit.

“Sykes rated a zero as is in no way helpful in resolving any issues encountered with regards to this stay, hide behind T&C’s and other elements say isn’t in their jurisdiction.”

With regards to the property it has good facilities to use, cleanliness not greatest most bedrooms had cobwebs in the corners of rooms. The owner wasn’t helpful from the outset and everything was nothing to do with him even though is his property and always referred back to Sykes. On arrival freezer not working and putrid smell coming from kitchen sinks - no one able to resolve freezer till next day, by then in fairness was upto temperature so was as if hadn’t been turned on in sufficient time. Then comes the best bit after leaving with regards to deposit bond (here’s where you need to be very careful). Owner sent text saying towels had been left on floor and not in bath as per his instructions and the bins not fully emptied (although his outside bin was full to max due to fact was two thirds full when there) - Billed £150 to move towels and empty bins. On the third day of stay a gentleman who said he worked for owner came in and put some form of what he said was cleaning product into hot tub. Few hours later when someone went to use the water was green so didn’t use it. Upon us getting home he has said we had dirtied his hot tub and again that would be £100. Charged for a broken football table handle which I fully accept as someone in our party must have damaged. Property is fine and is what it says, I’d just advise caution with regards to your deposit bond as every angle will be chased to extract further money from you.

There's something really fun about pulling pints from a bar with your friends. The pub has a great feel and there are lots of facilities to keep a large group entertained. The Three Tuns Best was great on tap and we were able to get a tonne of bacon and sausages at the butcher a couple of doors down to cook up for everyone. Would definitely recommend. “We have had a brilliant few nights at the Boars Head and would recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable holiday or event.”

The pub is exactly as it would be if it were open to the public, except for some amazing additions such as the hot tub, sauna etc. Location couldn't be any better, with shops, other nice pubs and cafes within a few mins walk, and the lovely countryside views surrounding the town. The kitchen was very well equipped to cooking for large groups which meant we got real value for money for our trip by catering for ourselves. The landlord was very responsive when we had questions, coming back to us immediately with answers. The only low point of the weekend was having to leave this morning!

“What can I say!”

The Boar’s Head is everything I hoped for and more. The pictures really do not do it justice. Where to start - the pub is perfect! So much room and something for everyone. It was so nice to pour a pint and there was plenty of fighting to do a shift behind the bar! Every room is lovely especially the outside rooms. The black out blinds meant we slept soundly in the very comfy beds. The kitchen was well equipped and we all enjoyed sitting down together for breakfast together. The beer garden is a gem - nothing better than sat in the hot tub with a cold beer. We were adults only but we all thought that you could come with kids and it’s such a safe space. Games room with karaoke was lots of fun - I think that’s why didn’t have any voices by the Sunday. Tv room great for Saturday hangovers !! Lots of sport watched. Darren the host was so helpful, responsive and nothing seemed too difficult. He was an excellent host. The village was lovely too - we ate in the Three tuns. Initially we weren’t impressed but don’t let looks fool you, the food was gorgeous. Some of the group ate in the Castle and said they want to return to Bishops castle to eat there again. There was a flea market and some cute shops. Our group needed more rooms so we had a few bnbs around the village and all were great. Honestly, we were all trying to think about what we can use as an excuse to come back! I absolutely recommend it! Thank you for making my 50th birthday so memorable.

“We picked this place to celebrate a school group 40th and we could not have picked a better place.”

The pub itself was brilliant old classic pub with all the extras you could possible want. The bedrooms and bathrooms are really nice and the bed are comfortable which is always a bonus with rentals. The owner is helpful and provides all the info beforehand and the beer was ready to flow as soon as we walked in. The local area is great we sampled all the other local pubs which were welcoming and friendly. The hotel is great for a Sunday roast and food is very good at the 3Tuns brewery. All in all we all loved it and will hopefully be booking again soon.

“We booked The Boars Head for my 30th birthday and it was one to be remembered.”

If you are looking for a unique weekend/ week away with family and friends then book The Boars Head! We couldn't quite believe it when we arrived, it was just what we wanted... Our own pub. It was cosy and clean. The snug was great for the sports fans with sky sports etc. and the kitchen had everything you needed to cook a big dinner for all your guests etc. The games room was great, playing pool and putting songs on the jukebox. Also the hot tub is huge and was great to chill out in. Furthermore the main pub area was perfect size for all guests to be together. The village is sweet and quaint, with some lovely pubs and some lovely walking routes. I wish we could do the weekend all over again. Thank you Darren for letting us stay :)

We booked it at the idea of having a pub to ourselves and it was exactly that and more. Plenty of rooms, all very clean and set up for you. You have a nice side room with massive tv and plenty of room for a large group… we have 14 and was lots of spare space, then the actual pub had room to drink, eat, break into groups, play games. Whatever you want. Darren, the host, couldn’t have been more helpful. Always answering our questions quickly, no matter how silly. Plenty of recommendations and advice. ! We booked the boars head holiday pub for my friends stag do and what an absolutely fantastic weekend we all had! From start to finish, Darren could not have been anymore helpful to make the weekend so hassle free and nothing was too much trouble. The property was fantastic and had everything we needed. We purchased our favourite draught products through Darren and these were all installed ready to pour on our arrival. The games room was very popular with all your pub favourites, darts, pool, juke box ect! All the rooms were very modern, comfortable and clean! The outdoor area with the Hot Tub was also superb! We had planned to head into the town to experience some of the other pubs but we didn't need too, the boars head had it all! All guests complimented on such a fantastic property and a stag do to remember! I couldn't recommend this property enough for any occasion! 10/10!

“We had an amazing time at The Boars Head, it was so cosy even though it’s a massive property, 23 of us from age 2 to 60 , something for everyone to do, the teenagers and grown ups loved the games room, the snuggle blankets in the cinema room was a lovely touch, all bedrooms we’re comfortable, everyone said how well they slept, the 2 rooms with adjoining bedrooms were perfect for us, for my grandchildren to be with their parents.”

The kitchen had every gadget going, and yes the pots wasn’t shiny and new, but very good quality and heavy duty what you would expect in a working pub, the town was lovely and friendly, and we was lucky to have the Xmas light switch on, the children[and adults] loved the lighted tractors driving past, we also got snow! Which everyone thought was so magical, lots of snowball fights and photos , the curly tail was fantastic and just perfect to give some that wanted a little more privacy, we loved running our own pub even if it was just for the weekend, 100% recommend for large groups that want something different, we was due to come before but lockdown stopped us, so so glad we finally got to come,

There was 22 family members from 10 mths to 69 yes. So much fun being able to 'run our own pub' and pull the pints. The games room was in use all the time and there was also so many board games to play. Large kitchen with everything you could need and lots of space in the fridges and freezer. The bedrooms were all spacious and the beds were so comfy we didn't want to get up in a morning. The outside space, with the hot tub and bar area was really good although didn't use it much because of the weather. Lots of family time memories were made Thank you

“Had a brilliant weekend staying at The Boers Head.”

We were a stag party and the idea of us having our own pub for the weekend was such a novelty and everyone enjoyed their stay here. The beer garden was definitely a draw with it being such a pleasant weekend, with the bbq used as well as the hot tub. The games room was certainly a social hub too. Bishops Castle is small picturesque town and we enjoyed seeing what there is and this was made easy with the pub being on the high street. There was also a park 2 minutes away which allowed us to play football and other sports. The main highlight was obviously the working bar and the only negative is that we should had ordered more kegs! Would certainly recommend for any groups who want a top weekend entertaining themselves, as it was certainly better and far more convenient than going abroad for a stag do!

“We had a fantastic stay at the Boars Head.”

Family holiday for 22 of us from ages 1 to 86, with another 5 people staying in a cottage nearby. The curly tail accommodation was lovely, very comfortable and clean. I stayed in curly tail 2 and this room was so spacious. Loved the blackout blind. The pub was great, fantastic facilities in the games room, the hot tub and kitchen. Bedrooms were done lovely. Other nice little touches throughout like fresh flowers and hand wash in bathrooms. Plenty of space for everyone and loved all the equipment in the kitchen from when it was still a working pub kitchen. We had three barrels put on and the guys loved this. Great communication from the owner before and during our stay. Area was good, so convenient to have the two shops over the road. Recommend the Three Tuns for food. Things to be improved - some items could do with updating in the kitchen like the fridge that had a leak, we did let the housekeeper know at the end and the childrens highchairs. More signs outside and on the gate telling people that it is not an open pub. We had numerous people come and try and get in. People let themselves in the gate at the back of the pub looking for a way in. They were all fine but it was awkward at times. We would definitely recommend the Boars Head and will hopefully get to return soon.

Commercial fridge's do tend to condensate more than domestic, but as it works well I am loathed to replace it on environmental grounds, I will add a note to the information to explain the compensating. In relation to additional signage its listed and that makes it difficult as it is still a pub and bolting the inner gate to the garden area does stop them entering the property but I am afraid it is still a pub and therefore has to keep its authenticity which in turn is its charm. What wasn’t expected was the cleanliness which was poor particularly the kitchen. The inside of the food fridges were very dirty and the work tops still had marks on from the previous occupants. If you are prepared to do some cleaning when you arrive then this is a good place for a celebration.

“What can I say what an amazing place.”

Our whole family enjoyed every room in there (even the laundry room :) the games room, hot tub and cinema room were a big hit with the kids. The bar and seating areas were lovely lots of room to spend with the family. The curly tail accommodations were lovely (added bonus for guests who wanted to go to bed a bit earlier and have their own bathrooms) Only thing was I forgot to mention to Darren that there was a wasp nest next to curly tail 4, only there was a few wasps that kept coming into the room. Maybe a fly net in front of the window so you can still open it without the wasps getting in. Judy the housekeeper came a couple of times during our stay to check the hot tub, she was lovely and friendly. Darren was also only an email away if needed. Darren you have an amazing pub, it’s kept beautifully the bedrooms are lovely and the ones in the pub are very beautiful with lovely original features. Beams are low in the bar area few guests managed to bump their heads which only added to the laughter we had in there. Kitchen was very well equipped only thing I would suggest for the kitchen is a tin opener I know you have that big one but it was quite hard to use. We did washing nearly everyday which was fantastic so we could keep on top of it, there is a washing line in the car park which is great for sunny days but maybe a clothes maid for when the weather is not so good, a couple of our party had to go home for the day for work so brought a couple back with them which really helped. Everyone had the best time, oh and we would love to know when the property was built I forgot to ask you when we were having a chat, we were trying to Google it :) Thank you for a great stay Darren x

I take on board your comments regarding the clothes drying but there is a tumble dryer and a clothes line. “We recently stayed at the Boars Head Pub for three nights for my brother's stag do and I have to say we had an absolutely incredible time there.”

Everyone loved the facilities available to us and the concept of pouring our own pints all weekend, watching sport, playing games and enjoying the hot tub simply never got old. As a group of guys who enjoy a pub lock-in, this place was the perfect setting for three such sessions in a row and I have to say Darren was the perfect host who was always available via email to respond to any of my queries or to help resolve one or two small issues. For anyone thinking of staying here with family, friends or for their own stag do then I can't recommend this place enough and you simply won't be disappointed. “The pub is exactly what it says!”

Good games room, bars and hot tub but....the small bar by the hot tub was very grubby with lots of cobwebs and behind the main bar was very tired and not very clean either. The kitchen was full of crockery and dishes, most of which weren't touched even with a house full, and the pots and pans had definitely seen better times. The contents of the kitchen needed a complete refurbishment; it was very obvious that all was just left as it was when the pub shut down. The sinks in the kitchen were at one end and the kettles etc were at the other end so a lot of time was wasted walking backwards and forwards. The small hand washing sink was filthy. A lot of the crockery and pans had to be washed before we could use them and I realised that a lot of reliance for cleanliness is placed upon the previous occupants. Unfortunately for us, they were not very clean. And a quick inspection by the housekeeper would have shown that. The glass washer behind the bar didn't work and the owner actually messaged me to tell me this and blamed the previous occupants but it can't have been used for some time as it smelt very unpleasant when it was opened. Someone tried to use the sauna but couldn’t get it to work. They only mentioned this later or I would have got in touch with someone but they couldn’t find any instructions so just didn’t bother. One of the guests had Curly Tail 4 and she said it was very dusty. She wiped the bathroom floor with some kitchen roll and showed me the results and she was certainly not being overly fussy. My husband and I were in Curly Tail 1 and it was fine but was in need of a bath mat to save slipping in the bath. One of the showers in the upstairs of the pub wasn’t easy to control and a few people reported not being able to make it any cooler. There are several single steps in the pub and I think it would be better if they could be marked in some way to prevent falling. Late on Saturday night I missed my footing on the way to the kitchen and ended up on my bottom on the floor. Luckily I just had a few bruises and wasn’t carrying anything so it wasn’t a disaster. I say all of this in the hope that it can be used to improve the place as we all had a great time there which could have been that bit better if cleaner and the kitchen set up to be more ‘user friendly’ for non-professional people.

Thank you for your feedback and of course your booking, also for your observation that the pub is as it was when it stopped being open to the public! That is exactly why so many people have enjoyed staying at the property because I am not just offering a holiday home I am giving people a chance to experience having your own pub and all that goes with that plus additional extras! The kitchen as per the pictures on Sykes property page clearly show it is a commercial kitchen its not complexed in any way but as such it does not contain shiny pots and pans as they are industrial steel designed for heavy use. All the crockery you say needed washing before use but before you mention that your comment was that there is so much of it even though you had a full house hardly any of it was used or needed so I am somewhat perplexed as to which it was. Many of my guests hold various celebrations during the stay inviting other guests who maybe staying in different properties so the extra crockery etc is very much appreciated. The glass washer had been booked for repair as previous guests had broken it but the parts were delayed, but I had informed you in advice that there are two further dishwashers at the property, one being next to the ice machine a slimline one that you could use just for glasses, leaving the larger one for crockery. In relation to it smelling that is because one of your party decided to place used glasses in it causing the stale smell. The instructions for the sauna are contained in the information leaflet that I send out prior to your arrival usually 3 times, I did say to you as the booker please ensure you share the information with your guests but clearly that had slipped your mind and the sauna was checked on departure and works fine. The bar area is old the Inn was built in 1597 and the ware and tear you describe most people see as character. Room 4 bathroom floor dirty, I take it that must have happened as you had several changeover of guests, perhaps you had not cleaned the bathroom before the next arrived? Bath mats are provided they are draped over the side of the bath and you can easily pop one in the bottom of the bath should you need, but it is self catering and you also could have brought your won as the configuration of the rooms together with description show that room 1 is shower over bath. Both showers upstairs are easily controlled by turning the thermostat and pressing the button they adjust as they should do, also the water is set to a safe temperature. The steps in the bar have ben there since 1597 just one step up and have signage above but you had been at the property long enough to familiarise yourself with the layout. I do not usually write such a robust response but you had 4 visits form the housekeeper when she came to see to the hot tub ad assist you with the karaoke and not once did you bring up any of these issues, it also states in the information to notify us in the first 24hrs and we will return and rectify the things you have raised. Prior to arrival you had been in contact via email and you could have raised these with myself, you were more than happy to ask me if you could take your pets upstairs, so I find it disappointing that you did not give myself and my team the opportunity to deal with the issues but instead chose to notify me through your disappointing feedback. I am an experienced owner with 30 years plus in hospitality and it is my sincere hope that every guest who choses my property has the best stay that I can offer, and I think my many previous reviews reflect that, and perhaps the Boars Head was just not for you! “We had an amazing week in this fabulous, quirky property!”

We were a mixture of 20 family and friends celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary. We were very lucky to get great weather as a bonus and spent a lot of time in the garden area, enjoying the hot tub on most days. It was great pulling pints in the bar and spending evenings all together in “our” pub! We hired the chef for our anniversary 3 course meal - it was so good not having to lift a finger to set up, cook, serve or clear away! “We had an absolutely amazing time at the Boar's Head, we were 6 families and the place is so perfect that we only left the pub once all week (to go to Ludlow).”

The hot tub, sauna and games room (particularly the karaoke) were all very well used and pouring your own pint never gets boring!! Darren has thought of everything and is there at the drop of a hat if you have any questions. We had the caterers come in for Sunday lunch and one evening meal and they were great too, incredible value as well. The log burner was a lovely place to gather around in the evening and the TV room was well used. We all slept well in the rooms too, which I'm sure had nothing to do with the volume of beer consumed. Cannot recommend enough :)

It literally has everything and anything you may need. 19 of us had a fantastic weekend celebrating a big birthday. Darren was helpful and approachable leading up to our arrival and a great help when we needed him to get Sky TV working; someone was round within 10 minutes to sort it. Darren provided us with stock for the bar and organised Jerome’s team to come in and cook for all 19 of us one evening and I would recommend their services to anyone staying here. The kitchen is well equipped, the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, the bar/lounge/dining area are cosy and the games room provided us with lots of fun; I hope no one filmed us on karaoke! The town is beautifully quirky with a good selection of shops and pubs. If you have a celebration coming up I couldn’t think of a better place to spend it!

“Group of 19 celebrating a 50th birthday-aged from 2-78.”

We had a fantastic week stay! There was something for everyone to enjoy. We didn’t realise that one of the twin rooms was off another room which meant we had a bit of a reshuffle in sleeping arrangements but I can see the listing has been updated now and it is clear so that’s good! Couple of little blips when we were there, but Darren was very responsive and everything was addressed and sorted quickly so thank you very much for that. (Just one suggestion-if there is something that should not be unplugged or switched off it might be an idea to put a sticker on it to advise this?) We had Jerome come in with the most amazing Sunday roast, I would thoroughly recommend that. We were easily able to cook meals for the whole group the rest of the time as the kitchen is so well equipped. Hot tub was fab, the games room kept everyone occupied for the whole week (when we weren’t out exploring the area which is beautiful) and we loved having our own bar! The whole place is amazing, bedrooms are very well decorated and comfortable, communal spaces are cosy, and we all hope to go back again one day. Book it now!

“What an amazing place!”

We feel very lucky to have stayed there. Generally everything was great, and the facilities were very unique and fun, we had a great time. We had a couple of issues while there but Darren responded quickly and helped where possible. Some things that could have made the stay even better: - We couldn't find any tea-towels or oven gloves which made cooking difficult. I'd recommend getting some if you don't have any, or putting them in a more obvious place if you do. - An amazon firestick for the TV in the games room would have been great, we had to use a laptop and HDMI to get YouTube karaoke on the screen. - The microphones for the karaoke were a bit dodgy and sometimes cut out. - Share the pin for the sky TV in the manual so you can watch shows on demand that are aired after 9pm. - Hot tub went cold for no reason in the middle of the stay so fix that if possible. - We ran out of loo roll after 2 and a half days and couldn't find any spare so had to buy some more so more stocks would be good. - It felt a bit strange to have to pay for the juke box and arcade machine, especially as no one carries cash anymore. Would be great if there was some way to be able to use it for free/some tokens available to use. Thanks again. We loved our stay and have already recommended the place to lots of people. Hopefully we'll be back again soon!

Thank you for your review which I really appreciate as it helps other's who are considering booking. It's great that you had an enjoyable time at my property. I would like to address your issues We were in regular contact throughout your stay and I could of easily given you the code for the sky it's there to protect children as I provide a complete viewing package. I could of pointed you in the right direction for tea towels and oven gloves if you had asked, Judy my housekeeper who visited she also could of resolved these. The hot tub has never been an issue , it is serviced monthly and when Judy did her chemical check it was to temperature so I have no explanation for this, but it did regain its temperature so that you were able to use it, having spoken to the maintenance company it appears it most likely went into a purge cycle or the cover was not closed properly l, but I responded to you with instructions on what to do which rectified it. The Boars Head is self catering and toilet roll is something you provide yourself, although we do leave 2 full rolls in all 6 bathrooms and extra large catering rolls in the ground-floor toilets. I don't advertise that there is an amazon fire stick in the games room it was only that one of your party had previously stayed and on that occasion there had been, but there is a kareoke machine and a large selection of discs but I understand that you wanted specific songs which unfortunately I did not have. The microphones will cut out if you are using excessive volume as the system has a decibel monitor so that our neighbours are protected should you wish to enjoy yourselves into the early hours. The shop across the road has a post office with plenty of change and a cash machine open from 7am to 10pm daily. The pool, air hockey, darts football table etc are all on free play. You can't give tokens out free when you can win a jackpot of £100. It's so great that you have already recommended my property to others and thank you for leaving it so tidily. It has every amenity for everyone young or old to have fun . The bedrooms are comfortable and cosy . The hot tub area is amazing. The use of a chef was just brilliant as there were 20 of us to feed ! The breakfast was plentiful hot and tasty and Chef Jerome cleared away all the dishes . Everyone enjoyed themselves and we had over 20 of us with ages from 2-73 years old. The hot tub was fab and it’s great to be able to order your own kegs of beer and just pour your own pint whenever you want! The games room is great too. We didn’t use the catering packages although you can use the full industrial kitchen and there’s also local takeaway’s available. Rooms and bathrooms and everywhere all nicely decorated to a high standard. A unique experience, will hopefully book again one day.

“Wow , in fact 23 wows from everyone who stayed for a week at this amazing pub holiday cottage , very unique and all of us want to go back again so it's certainly been a positive experience .”

The village is very interesting with stunning accessible countryside and has a handy coop plus a superb butcher / cheese monger and we found getting food deliveries easy to arrange for essentials. Darren, the owner, is especially helpful and kindly arranged for draught beer to be provided so we could hand pull ales and lager and took our own wine etc, likewise he sorted fuel for the huge log burner. He can also arrange a chef to make food but we opted for self catering and there is a huge clean and well stocked kitchen with commercial fridge freezer and a semi professional cooker etc and loads of implements and crockery etc. It's like the owner has just nipped out and left you in charge of the place for the week. The hot tub is massive and was well used and games room equally a boon with lots to do on wet days plus the cinema room where many a carry on film was shown. The pub , restautant area and rooms are very comfortable and again clean (everyone commented how good the beds are) if you are inside the pub you nip through the kitchen to upstairs and the rooms are massive plus another 4 that are ground floor across the private car park so ideal for anyone who's less mobile but still nice and private as the car park is gated. “Absolutely fantastic venue for a 'big' birthday celebration.”

We comprised of 9 couples and The Boars Head couldn't have been any better. The accommodation is clean, comfy and authentic, the kitchen facilities are perfect (even for our professional catering friends!) and the pub is just amazing. It feels frozen in time - just like it was a working pub only yesterday. The outside bar area is great too (the hot tub was popular!) and the karaoke system and games room got plenty of use. Darren (the owner) was communicative and supportive throughout. We couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate. The continued phrase from our group is "#itsanactualpub"!! “WOW! What an amazing property!”

It couldn't have been more perfect! We were a Wedding party of 20 (sleeps up to 23) that stayed 2 nights. Being able to hire a whole pub was absolutely fantastic. Having the bar area was great, it was perfect that others who were staying close by in various airbnbs could join us for the evening prior to the Wedding, it was so much more intimate than meeting at a pub elsewhere. Following a delicious Chinese takeaway, we had a great evening playing games in the games room, singing along to the jukebox and generally enjoying the welcoming ambiance! The pub itself dates back to the 1600s and was 1st licensed in 1642. It has so much character, with oak beams and a beautiful fire place and a cosy snug. It was so much bigger than we imagined, the photos really don't do it justice! It has all you will ever need for a get-together! We had a lovely chef come to the property the morning of the Wedding and cook us a full english/continental breakfast, that set us up for the day! There is a great outdoor space with a hot tub and there is also a sauna, both of which we didn't get time to use, but we plan to return at some point. It would be a perfect venue for Christmas or New Year! It fulfilled our expectations and much much more! Thank you Darren, it was so nice to finally meet you after all of our email chit chat!

4 families ageing between 9 and 80 and there was something for everyone. Loads of seating for both eating and relaxing. Great cinema room where we all watched the match! Kids loved the games room and we all enjoyed the hot tub. Beer on tap an added bonus. We ordered the bbq hamper which was great quality and fed 15 of us for 2 meals. Comfy beds & quality bathrooms. Would highly recommend a fun stay here with big group of friends or family.

“We had a fantastic holiday at the Boars head.”

We spent a week with our parents and all our family to celebrate their wedding anniversary (although because of covid this was delayed by 2 years) . There was something for everyone here and suited all the age ranges in our family from 15-78 years. The bar and kitchen facilities were fantastic.. the younger generation enjoyed the games room , karaoke and hot tub whilst the older members enjoyed relaxing in the lounge bar area ion comfy leather settee surrounded by the original features of the pub. The bedrooms were clean beds were comfortable and it slept 22 of us comfortably. Darren the owner was contactable throughout our stay as we had a couple of issues and these were sorted immediately. I would recommend this place for a large get together of friends family definitely 5star rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“We had a lovely, memorable stay at the Boar’s Head.”

This was a family gathering, our first in 3 years, celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and several other ‘big’ occasions belatedly due to the pandemic. The facilities at this property are second to none. We had great fun in the pub and various family members enjoyed the sauna, hot tub and games room. The location in Bishops Castle is ideal with plenty of nearby attractions and facilities for everyone. We had a fantastic meal expertly cooked by Jerome and served by Julia. This was a real treat, they did everything, from laying the tables to clearing up afterwards, well worth the money. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone wanting a comfortable, but very different sort of holiday for a large group of people of any ages. Thank you Darren for making this available.

“All i can say is What a fantastic place!”

We went as a party of 20 for a hen do for 2 nights and had the bestest time, the pub literally does not fail to deliver, its so quirky and cute. It has everything you could ever think of needing for a get away place. We ordered the breakfast option which was a life saver when you are all too hungover to even think about cooking and what a cracking full english he prepared for both days of our stay. “What a great place to spend time with family and friends.”

We were celebrating a 50th birthday and had a group with ages ranging from 7 to 70. The facilities were excellent and there was plenty for us all to do. We loved the hot tub, the games room and of course the bar. The local area had some lovely countryside which was great for walking our dogs. The accommodation in both the Curly Tail and the main pub was really good. All the bedrooms were large, comfortable, well equipped and maintained. We had 20 people staying and everybody was happy with their rooms. The bar and kitchen areas are extremely well stocked and everything you need is catered for. We ordered a variety of drinks which were all waiting for us when we arrived. Both Darren and Sykes were really helpful throughout the booking process and answering our questions in the lead up to our trip. Would highly recommend this property for groups who want to have fun and spend time together. We would definitely book again.

“FABULOUS PROPERTY!”

I don’t know if words can truly express the magnificence of this property! It’s a beautiful, quirky, 16th century building. With all its fabulous amenities it’s in a class of its own. Infrared sauna, hot tub, cinema room, games room etc it’s got something for everyone. A genuine bar area, including pumps and coffee machine, fully equipped kitchen and laundry room including a washer and separate dryer and ice making machine. Just wonderful! Every bedroom beautifully furnished, modern bathrooms tastefully decorated. Full instructions for everything. Even a wonderful log fire to warm you on cold nights. My family and I have enjoyed the very best holiday with scrumptious cakes baked by the host himself on arrival in a classy dessert fridge on the bar. All pre-ordered drinks chilling in the bar fridges ready for us. You really couldn’t ask for more! The host was friendly and easily accessible, although we didn’t have any problems whilst here. It was hard to leave and we will be booking again next year.

“It's literally a dream come true having an entire pub to ourselves, and our time at the Boar's Head Inn easily surpassed anything I expected or dreamed of before arrival.”

It had everything you would expect from a great pub, from the bar to the pool table, and even more with features such as the hot tub. My party was stunned and amazed when they realised the property contained it's own sauna. The kitchen was spotless and contained all the utensils we could need and more, and everything was prepared for us before arrival such as providing towels and setting up the pre purchased kegs.

“Booked the Boars Head for a girly weekend away and from the initial booking the owner Matt was extremely accommodating and there to answer any questions that we had.”

The property itself is absolutely beautiful. Well layed out and with lots to do. The hot tub and games room with karaoke, pool table, darts etc was a big hit. We had Matt to arrange a chef to come in on our first night to prepare a 3 course meal and WOW it was absolutely stunning. Well presented and great value for money. Would definitely recommend this for anyone that is booking. The pub itself is just across the road from a spar and within easy walking distance to local pub/restaraunt. We could not have asked for a better experience. The size of the pub was perfect for us, and every aspect of our stay was so well thought out, from the facilities to the little touches such as the books and the board games. We didn’t need to venture out at all, as the children had an amazing time in the games room and the den, and there was obviously plenty to keep the adults entertained at the bar! The accommodation was also extremely clean and comfortable. We were lucky enough to book in the Sunday lunch option, which was delicious and very reasonably priced. “I couldn’t have wished for a better place to spend my 30th birthday with my family and friends!”

It was even better and more spacious than I expected it to be but somehow still very cosy and homely. All of the rooms are beautiful and the entire place is spotless. It can be quite stressful organising something for so many but Darren called ahead of our stay and couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. We had catering options for two evenings but wish we would have had this throughout the rest of our stay as it was such great value for money. The beer on tap, games room & hot tub were a huge hit with my family & made the weekend even more fun. The pub is surrounded with beautiful places to walk so whether you’re looking for somewhere for a big celebration or get together with a mixture of fun, relaxation and some beautiful scenery, I cannot recommend The Boars Head enough. “Fantastic pub, fully equipped very efficient communication with owners.”

Downside was two of the 10 rooms were only accessible via other bedrooms which was not described on sykes nor were we advised at any point. We paid a £1000 deposit and left property spotless however we were accused of not washing a cheese grater and baking pan which was not us but chef supplied by owner!. In addition we were accused of cracking a glass cabinet in Bathroom and charged £99.99 by owner even though this was cracked when we arrived!. Owner told us he cleaned and checked bathrooms himself and knew it was fine before, even though he missed no soap in one of the dispensers and used cotton pad on floor. Very minor Petty things but owners poor reaction has led me to write. Excellent weekend soured by poor after sales service and being accused of something we didn't do with no right of reply.

Thanks for your review we always appreciate feedback positive or negative so that we can continue to provide good customer service and address any issues you may have had. The description of the property is clear on the text and in the photographs on the the Sykes webpage so I cannot accept this point as it is down to you to read the property description and based on that decide if our property suite your needs. The bond was made to clear to you at the time of booking when you accepted the terms and conditions and I know that Sykes emailed everyone to remind them that the bond is payable a week before arrival to the owners b6 bank transfer. Regardless of what items need washing up it is again your responsibility to leave the property as you were handed it over. That includes washing up all dirty items and putting them back. Some of you left on the Monday and those of you staying in the curly tail did not wash the cups on the hospitality trays or remove the rubbish from the rooms. There was a wig found in the bar along with a cigarette holder, the cooker was not cleaned all the bathroom bins were left full. I am sorry if the soap dispenser was not full but they are there as a courtesy as are the tissues and other items. In relation to the crack on the table it was not there before your party checked in, had of been so then why did you not notify me of the crack immediately as it was found instead of me finding it then letting you know then the person who noticed it tells you only after they had departed that it was cracked when she picked up the mirror to take t9 he bedroom to put her contact lenses in??? I didn’t charge for the extra cleaning or the fixing of the cctv camera after one of your party decided to clean the lenses with a broom dislodging the power cable. It really is a shame you felt your stay was overshadowed by this but it is self catering the chef is subcontracted and ultimately works for you and you are responsible for the property when you hand it back to us, advice for future bookings you may make is to read through the property description and take better care of cleaning on departure, finally always notify the owners should you notice any damaged items. You had my mobile number and were in regular contact with em even asking me to keep you an en-suite room ahead of the others in your party as you had done all the work. We had planned for ten couples to have their own room so was rather awkward for couples to have to access through double bedrooms, both are clearly designed for families. We paid the required £1000 deposit and left the property as we found it (taking video and photographic evidence) however were accused of marking a wooden table and in turn charged £150 for the repair even though we had photo evidence of the mark being on the photos advertising the property, when we explained this and sent the evidence the owner told us he cleaned and checked the table himself and knew it was fine before! Like the previous reviewer this may seem minor but I also found the owners reaction to my messages unreasonable, when asked for an invoice for the table to be sanded he could not provide a company name which was also concerning and then accused us of leaving the property in a mess, something that had never been mentioned previously. We had such a fabulous weekend in a wonderful property but have to agree with the previous poster that the owner provides poor after sales service and clearly has a history of accusing his guests of things that they have not done with no right of reply as can be seen by his response to the last negative feedback he received.

“It was a really great holiday.”

Everything was clean and tidy and as expected. The only things I can really say I was disappointed with was being asked for £1000 cash one week before we went in our holiday as a security bond. We were under the impression that a card would be held and money taken out if anything was broken on our stay. The only other thing was the oven in the kitchen. It took forever to cook anything and this impacted us getting out anywhere in the morning as it took over two hours to cook breakfast.

“There were 4 generations of my family staying.”

From great grandparents to great grandkids. The location is quiet, but with just enough local amenities. There were 19 of us in total, but plenty of space. Sauna and hot tub were fantastic, kids and the big kids loved the games room and tv room. Kitchen was well equipped. One very small thing. I lost count the amount of people that tried to come in for a drink or food. In fact I gave a small tour to a couple, selling the idea of renting the place to them. Think there just needs a little more signage just stating it’s a private area, and not open to general public. “We went on holiday with five families so there was 22 of us in all and the Boars Head was absolutely fantastic for what we wanted, everyone of us really enjoyed the holiday, it’s in such a beautiful village and a great surrounding area that you can go and do loads of different things or the pub is so nice you could just stay and relax in there no problem, so it’s great for any kind of holiday whether you like being busy on day trips or staying and relaxing in comfort.”

We had about 13 kids ranging from 5 to 13 years old and they weren’t bored once! And as for the adults.....well it’s always great to feel like you’re having a Lock In till 2am every night in your own Pub!

“I booked the Boars Head for my partner's 40th birthday for us as a group of friends; several families, so a mix of adults and children.”

It was a last minute booking due to other accommodation we had booked having to be cancelled, and the owners, Darren and Stuart were great at sorting out the beer on tap that we wanted, and would have been open to catering requests even at a few days notice. They were responsive and helpful throughout the stay for the one or two queries we had. The accommodation was excellent - very clean and the rooms were good sizes with everything we needed. The pub itself was great for the novelty factor of pulling your own pint, and the games room, hot tub and outside area a hit for all the guests. We had a birthday BBQ which worked really well, and a take away Chinese one night. The whole stay worked really well for us, thank you for a brilliant time!

“This place is a delight.”

All the facilities you'd expect in a pub and all to yourselves. The games room was a lot of fun. Outside bar/garden/hot tub was a very relaxing oasis. Rooms clean and comfortable. We had the chefs in on a couple of nights and food was very high quality. We were just a family(dictated by lockdown) but the Boars Head plus Curly Tail would be excellent for a large family party etc. The town and area also rather lovely. “Incredible place to stay in a quiet town in Shropshire.”

Having a pub to yourself with beer on tap is a great perk, and the hot tub is perfect for relaxing after a day out exploring the Shropshire countryside. The owners were fantastic, friendly, and quickly on hand for any problems we had. Will definitely look at going again!

“Everything about the Boars head was superb.”

Had everything we needed for a fun filled family celebration weekend. It was totally outstanding. We ordered the Sunday lunch, which the chef came in and prepared for us. It was a stunning meal, which was served on time and piping hot. They even washed the dishes and cleaned the kitchen after they had finished. Everything was planned efficiently, the whole place exceeded our expectations, the games room, hot tub, outside garden area and the cinema room which included sky sports. Thanks to Darren and his team for making it an extra special weekend. We will definitely be coming back.

Perfectly clean and beautifully appointed. The hosts were very attentive and went to great lengths to ensure our stay went well. The extras such as hot tub, sauna, games room, outdoor garden space and use of the bar facilities made it rather unique. Lovely location to explore mid Shropshire and the town of Bishops Castle has a lovely vibe with all we required including a great Chinese takeaway which we utilised one evening.

“The Boars Head is fantastic building with great character, and brilliant facilities for all the family.”

We were a family group of 13, and we loved the hot tub, and the games room - a good pool table, as well as darts, air hockey, table football, karaoke, board games etc. The "cinema room" was also popular with the younger ones, who watched most of David Walliams films! As we had quite a few wet days, it made our holiday to be able to entertain so well in the building. The pub is also really nice, with a nice seating area and a lovely log fire as well as a great sound system. The area has great scenery, and we visited some nice places such as Ludlow Castle, Powys Castle as well as Quad Biking near Welshpool and Trampolining near Shrewsbury. Darren and Stuart are very friendly and helpful hosts. and all in all I would highly recommend the Boars Head.

“We spent a fabulous week here, it had everything we needed and more.”

The outside space is great for food, drinks & the hot tub, the pub itself is large but so cosy. The TV room was a brilliant chill out space and we had such a laugh in the games room on the karaoke. Their chef cooked for us a few times & the food was amazing! The hosts and the chef are all lovely and extremely helpful, we’ve already booked to go back next year!

“The boars Head was brilliant the pictures and description doesn’t do it justice.”

Cinema room was big enough for all 14 of us to watch a movie. Bar and lounge was so clean and tidy. The hot tub and jacuzzi was first class. Hot tub checked and cleaned daily . Bishop castle was a very picturesque village with breathtaking country views from the top. Overall and absolute gem of a holiday. Would recommend to anyone as a fantastic experience.

The pub facilities are first class and there is plenty to keep everyone occupied. The pub was very clean and rooms were comfortable. We had some lovely walks around the Shropshire area all starting at the pub. The owners were brilliant and were very responsive to any small questions we asked. Being able to pour draught lager was awesome and we all enjoyed being behind the bar. We all want to stay again. This place is awesome!!!
