Resting on the owner's working farm in the picture-perfect, rural village of Abbeycwmhir in Powys is Pant Y Rhedyn, a gorgeous detached, split-level, stone-built cottage.

Boasting tremendous views over the Welsh countryside and a delightful hot tub perfect for admiring the views from, this property is ideal for a relaxing family holiday any time of year.

Arriving at the cottage, ample off-road parking greets you before stepping into your home away from home for the trip.

The farmhouse-style kitchen offers all the appliances the chef of your group will need to rustle up delicious dinners including a gas hob, electric oven and a handy dishwasher to help with the cleaning up.

From here, gather the family to dine at the dining table; here, you can plan your day of adventures while the range and original features add to the character of the space.

Moving through the property, the sitting room provides a toasty woodburning stove where you can warm your toes before sinking into the sofa to snuggle with your loved ones and watch the Smart TV.

When sleep calls, head the bedroom to rest your head; the ground floor hosts a twin room with a zip/link feature for a flexible sleeping arrangement, ideal for a multigenerational family.

Climbing the stairs, you will find two more well-appointed bedrooms, a double and a twin, each of which have been decorated with a lovely neutral decor, allowing the character of the property to shine through.

Completing the first floor is an attic bedroom hosting a king-size bed and character beams, with glorious views over the surrounding fields.

Back on the ground floor, two shower rooms provide plenty of space for you prepare for your day, complete with walk-in showers, basins and WCs.

Outside, take advantage of the terrace space and enjoy your meals alfresco before jumping into the hot tub and savouring the fresh countryside air.

If you don't fancy cooking one evening, head out to the nearby villages for some pub grub; the Lamb and Flag Inn offers a scrumptious menu for dining in, or if you just can't tear yourself away from this marvellous property, pick up some fish and chips from Evans Plaice to enjoy back at the cottage.

For days out, the town of Rhayader is just a scenic car journey away and boasts the magnificent Rhayader Castle, the ruins of a motte-and-bailey castle, and the Clock Tower a war memorial landmark within the centre of the town.

For a day of walking and cycling, set off from the doorstep of the property and explore the local area, or venture off to the picturesque Pwll Penarth Nature Reserve and wander the beautiful woodland and grasslands - a favourite among birdwatchers.

Within easy reach is the stunning Elan Valley, a chain of man-made lakes, perfect for a day out of peaceful walks along the waterside.

You may also be able to find Craig Goch Dam, arguably the most important of Elan Valley's six dams.

Whatever you like to get up to on holiday, Pant Y Rhedyn is the perfect base all year round.

RHAYADER

Llandrindod Wells 10 miles; Aberystwyth 34 miles.

Rhayader is a small Welsh market town with a selection of tea rooms, pubs, restaurants, amenities and unique little boutiques, including local antiques. An added bonus of a leisure centre with a large swimming pool and a weekly livestock market. The Red Kite Feeding Station, on the outskirts of the town is a great attraction not to be missed. Rhayader is the first town on the River Wye and is home to the spectacular dams and reservoirs of the Elan and Claerwen Valleys. The Elan Valley offers a variety of walks and cycle trails (cycle hire is available in Rhayader), as well as a visitor’s centre with café and children's play area. This area is known as the Wildlife Centre of Wales, with its amazing variety of nature reserves open for visitors to enjoy. There is also pony trekking available in the area. Visit Builth Wells, where the Spring Festival, Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and Winter Fair are all held annually. Alternatively, a scenic drive will take you to the Welsh coast 34 miles away.
