Newtown rests along the River Severn, which spans 220 miles and offers a great place to enjoy a picturesque afternoon stroll and picnic.

You can also visit the Robert Owen Museum and Robert Owen Memorial, dedicated to the Welsh textile manufacturer and social activist, who resided in the town.

Pay a visit to the ruins of the medieval Dolforwyn Castle and enjoy learning about the textile history of the town at the Newtown Textile Museum.

Further afield, keen cyclists can join the National Cycle route which runs between Welshpool and Aberyswyth, which in parts runs alongside the River Severn the River Wye and takes in some fantastic Mid-Wales countryside.

The traditional and historic town of Montgomery is 8.4 miles away and has its own 12th century Norman castle, as well as the wonderful Glansevern Hall and Gardens, perfect for exploring the flora on display on a lovely summer’s day.

If you fancy a day by the beach, Barmouth is just over an hour’s drive away, offering lovely golden sand, great swimming opportunities and plenty of charming shops and eateries nearby.
