Pull on your walking boots and prepare for adventure along the famous Offa's Dyke Path, with this 8th century route carved out by King Offa, now offering 177 miles of walking trail to enjoy which loosely follows the Welsh/England border; hop on in Montgomery and head north to Welshpool or go south into the stunning Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Spend an afternoon visiting the amazing National Trust Powis Castle where ornate interiors and a wide Indian collection are sure to impress, along with the beautiful castle architecture and grounds.

Go back in time by taking a trip on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, travelling 16 miles by narrow gauge steam train through the picturesque Mid-Wales countryside, it's a lovely and leisurely way to enjoy the views.

The town of Montgomery sits just one mile from the border of England in Mid Wales. Popular with tourists, the town has a delightful selection of individual shops and a variety of pubs and restaurants, including the Michelin star restaurant, The Checkers, a fabulous way to make your holiday truly special. Pay a visit to the ruins of the 13th century Montgomery Castle, which enjoys beautiful views over the town’s timber-framed houses and cobbled streets, and beyond across Wales. The castle also hosts productions of touring theatre groups regularly during the summer. A few miles to the south is the historic market town of Bishop's Castle, an excellent place for a day or night out with its excellent pubs, live music and festivals throughout the year. The wider area is wonderful for walking and there are many cycle routes in the surrounding countryside with varying levels of difficulty. You can venture further into Wales with a drive up to the Snowdonia National Park, or directly west to Cardigan Bay, for the day, or hop back over the border and explore the Shropshire Hills AONB.
