Lovely rural location, homely feel, hot tub, well kept garden. Unfortunately on the third evening the boiler stopped working so there was no hot water. The owners (living on site) were straight on the case and at 9am Monday morning the plumber was with us. Unfortunately parts were not available and the eta for repairs would be Thursday. The owner notified Sykes (as per Sykes instruction) at which point a series of unfortunate communications began with Sykes. We asked for alternative accommodation, we accepted 2 but were then advised neither were available. We asked for one night in hotel, Sykes refused to meet the costs. We asked if would we be able to claim a refund if we chose to end the holiday 4 days early. We were told no! I disputed that and was told that if I wanted to take the matter further then I should engage a third party to argue the case. The majority of discussions took place during our day trip out; when we arrived at our accommodation we discussed the matter with the owners who immediately offered us a refund for the remaining nights, and kindly offered us the use of their bathroom for showers. We decided to stay on for two nights, cutting short our holiday by a day. The owners did everything they could have done; boilers break down, these things happen. My ratings would have been higher if not for the issues we experienced at the hands of Sykes who washed their hands of us - there has been no follow up during the stay, nor has there been a reply to my email notifying them of our departure. Sykes customer service is wholly lacking and their policies questionable; I would stay at The Coach House again, next time dealing direct with owners. If you are thinking to book I would urge you to do the same!

The property

This red-brick, detached property sits on the edge of the village of Llanymynech, perfectly located for sightseeing around the counties of Shropshire, mid Wales, North Wales and Cheshire.

Set in tranquil surroundings with a secluded garden, The Coach House is a splendid retreat for families eager to take a step back from reality.

A long driveway provides a grand entrance to the property, before parking in the ample off-road space.

Allow the budding chefs to get comfortable in the kitchen, offering all the essentials for a short break, while the others set the centre dining table with crockery, cutlery and a refreshing bottle of fizz.

Positioned on the first floor with exposed beams, the sitting room is a lovely space to spend your down time, furnished with sumptuous sofas and armchairs and a Smart TV so you can catch up on your favourite shows.

As the evening comes to a close, discover the bedrooms to catch your rest; just across from the lounge is an elegant bedroom, built up into the eaves of the roof and housing a four-poster king-size bed, while downstairs is a king-size and twin with neat furnishings.

The bedrooms are serviced by a bathroom and shower room, so you can best decide how to prepare for the day.

To the exterior is a well-maintained garden, offering a tidy lawn and furniture set where alfresco meals can be enjoyed, plus the benefit of a hot tub, so relaxing here comes easy.

Pop on your walking boots and get to know the area; Offas Dyke runs close to this detached property, a scenic 177-mile trail which is a real haven for walkers and hikers, while a little further afield is Llangollen with its steam railway and horse drawn barges.

Head to the market town of Welshpool, lined with Georgian buildings, where you can tour the remains of the 17th century Powis Castle and uncover the past of the town at the exhibitions in The Wharf Powysland Museum.

Those keen historians will love a trip to Shrewsbury, home to half-timbered houses and listed buildings, it’s a great place to learn about the local heritage as well as venture onto English soil, offering a museum with art gallery, a spectacular abbey and plenty of pubs to stop off for a pint.

Nestled between the lands of Wales and England, The Coach House is wonderfully placed for days out to the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and even the leisurely city of Chester, making it a wonderful base for everyone.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £350.

About the location

LLANYMYNECH

Llandrinio 4.3 miles. Owestry 7 miles.

Llanymynech is a village straddling the border between Montgomeryshire/Powys, Wales, and Shropshire, England, about nine miles north of the Welsh town of Welshpool. The village is on the banks of the river Vyrnwy, and the Montgomery Canal passes through it. The border runs for the most part down the centre of the village's main street, with the eastern half of the village in England and the western half in Wales. Bound by the River Vyrnwy to the south and enormous limestone cliffs to the north. The cliffs are the quarried face of Llanymynech Hill, and the views from the top are magnificent. Approximately 17 miles away is the historic town of Shrewsbury, certainly worth a visit all year round.
