Description
Resting within the traditional village of Penybontfawr in Powys, is Cwmwr, a stone-fronted, country-style cottage.
Welcoming eight guests, the cottage enjoys a nature-filled setting enveloped by rolling hills and woodland, whilst offering both families and groups of friends a private hot tub, a contemporary living space, adorning A-framed beams, and an external games room, providing attractive features for a self-catered break.
Park up on the gated driveway before entering Cwmwr, arriving at the farmhouse kitchen, featuring all expected amenities to ease your stay, along with a neighbouring dining room, complete with a lofty eight-seater table, enjoying views to the garden.
If you'd prefer to dine alfresco, set the patio table as the hot tub warms up, before enjoying a soak as the sun sets.
Retire to the homely sitting room for a film night, with the woodburning stove alight, or locate the games room for a night of entertainment.
As sleep calls, select between four well-appointed bedrooms, including a super-king-size with en-suite, two twin bedrooms with zip/link features, and a ground-floor bunk, all serviced by a contemporary bathroom with an indulgent roll-top bath, and a ground-floor shower room.
Awaken to vistas across the extensive fields before travelling towards Llyn Vyrnwy Dam and lake, offering the ideal setting for a leisurely walk.
Those who enjoy the outdoors will also favour a visit to Pistyll Rhaeadr, enveloped by Berwyn Mountains, followed by a picnic upon Y Berwyn National Nature Reserve.
Cwmwr is well-positioned to aboard Bala Lake Railway, or to explore Snowdonia National Park, before crossing the English border, with visits to Oswestry Town Museum, the Old Oswestry Hill Fort, and Chirk Castle.

It was a beautiful farm house in glorious setting.
It was such a warm home in a cold and wet October, to the point we had to turn heat down. I want the renovators name such a high quality build. Our family had a wonderful time creating core memories. Communication with owner was friendly and very responsive. Thank you Sarah!

The place is very clean and is very well kept. It has wonderful facilities and the view of the stars on an evening were incredible! Great weekend stay in this lovely location.
Easy to find post code is almost 100% accurate. Smart and well appointed with exposed beans and character features, games room and hot tub are an excellent addition. In the middle of nowhere surround by farms. Only minor grumble was some the bed/mattresses were very squeaky so the slightest movement could keep light sleepers awake, but that didn't prevent us from enjoying our stay. Would book again if we return to this area.

Cottage has all you might need to be comfortable with bonus of a games room. Highly recommend.

Just wow. Me and my friends go away once a year and tend to use Sykes due to the huge choice in properties. We've stayed in many nice places and this is at the top of the list. Sarah, the host (with the most), was easily contactable from a week or so before the booking, during and then after the booking! The house was in immaculate condition, well furnished and had everything you need for your stay. The hot tub, games room and piano all added to the experience and we are already looking at next year's dates. Part of me doesn't want to write such a fabulous review so we don't get too much competition for dates next year. All in all I would highly recommend this. Sarah deserves all the praise. Fantastic!

Accommodation is set in a beautiful valley with walks straight from your door. The house is well equipped and very spacious, and we loved the games room & hot tub to watch the red kites soaring overhead. Peaceful, relaxing... what more could you want?

Whilst doing the changeover we watched a hedgehog walk across the lawn and head into the farm, some geese, herons and loads of Red kites. It’s lovely when guests relax and appreciate the area and what it has to offer. Had a lovely relaxing break at Cwmwr.
The cottage is located on a working farm and was well equipped. The owner Sarah was very helpful at providing information about local places to visit and eat. The hot tub and games room were a great addition to have. There is lots of wildlife on your doorstep including red kites and phesants, as well as the surrounding farm animals. The location is so peaceful. There are plenty of places to visit within a short drive of cottage. Already planning another visit to the cottage in the future.

It was a fantastic stay for a long weekend as a group of ladies celebrating a 30th birthday.
We visited Oswestry which was a lovely town, walked some of the hills around the property and just loved the opportunity to be together to catch up - with a bonus of the hot tub! The hosts were fabulous and would recommend Cwmwr to anyone :)

This stunning property, Cwmur, is very tastefully decorated and well-furnished.
Almost every window, looks-out onto the beautiful Hills, lush Forests and green fields. The antics of the sheep amused us and the views of the Red Kites swooping over the Farmland were great. We enjoyed the Hot Tub which was meticulously clean. We had a wonderfully relaxing time. Our host Sarah was lovely and very helpful. She suggested some worthy places to visit, the nearby spectacular Lake Vyrnwy being one. We'll definitely be returning!

A lovely, comfortable and spacious cottage easily able to accommodate 6 adults and 2 children and having all the amenities you would need for a relaxing holiday.
All of the rooms (bedrooms, living, dinning and bathrooms) were very clean and the beds comfy to sleep on. The underfloor heating was a treat and made the cool evenings real cosy. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cutlery. Outside the hot tub was a real treat for the evenings and the games room an added bonus. The scenery breathtaking!

A fantastic, welcoming and spacious property which really is a home away from home.
The little extras make all the difference and our children really enjoyed the books and games in the property (along with the underfloor heating and sheep). The hot tub and games Room were a hit with everyone and this is definitely a property we will visit again. The views are stunning and there is plenty to do within a 30-40 minute drive. Sarah, the owner, was very helpful with ideas for day trips and on hand if we needed anything. 10/10

The lovely hot tub and brilliant games room made our stay even more special. We had a perfect couple of days relaxing in outstanding surroundings and comfort. We hope to return again soon. ! The beds were super comfy, the house was clean and had everything we needed. The hottub and games room were an added bonus for us, they made the stay more fun and enjoyable. We didn’t see anyone on arrival which would have been nice as we couldn’t ask any questions about the area. There was quite a few flies in property, but everything else was perfect! Thank you for a lovely stay.
Hi Victoria many thanks for your lovely review. I was up daily to tend on the hot tub, unfortunately our paths did not cross think you were making the most of those comfy beds. I’m always on the end of the phone for any questions and am a short walk away so would of gladly came to have seen you. A fantastic week staying at Cwmwr.
A traditional looking, but modern farmhouse/cottage with every facility you could possibly need . We were two families totalling 6 people and had loads of space . Games room and hot tub were a hit with the 2 lads (15/16) . Small village shop and pub about 1 mile away and plenty of outdoor activities in the local area.As described, there is a working farm next door and this added to the experience for us, we even had some pet lambs join us in the garden one day! Overall a great place to stay and we would certainly recommend it!

Beautiful house with beautiful views out of every window.
Spotlessly clean with everything we needed. Games room is a great addition. Be aware that the road leading to the house is very narrow. We forgot to mention that the downstairs shower (fab to have an extra bathroom downstairs) wouldn't turn down and was too hot to use! Owner very friendly.

An amazing house in beautiful surroundings.
It was such a shame to do 'day trips' as we also loved being at the cottage using the hot tub and games room. We found a happy medium though. We found the house spacious and having 3 bathrooms was a game changer. There's plenty to do all within a decent car ride. So I would definitely recommend this cottage!! Sarah was also at hand if we had any questions, an excellent host! 10 out of 10!

Had a lovely stay at Cwmwr last weekend.
The pictures don't do this house justice. It's amazing with everything you could need to accommodate several guests. The views from every window were stunning and the baby lambs just over the fence were so lovely to see. I would definitely recommend Cwmwr as a perfect, peaceful and comfortable property.

Fantastic property and owners.
Sarah had thought of everything, every kitchen utensil you need is provided, beds and pillows are comfortable, she is super responsive to messages and queries and really helpful if needed. The house is a great size, the kitchen appliances are high spec and the fridge and freezer were more than ample in size. Underfloor heating works well so always cozy and warm. Games room was a hit (also heated) and also additional board games were provided. WiFi is even good enough for a play station so the boys were happy. Great location. Would highly recommended and will return .

The property was stunning and had everything that we needed, the location was great and we really enjoyed visiting the lake and going on a bike ride round it.
The beds were really comfy and the property was nice and clean. Only downfall was the showers - they were scorching hot and wouldn’t turn down.
We loved our stay in Cwmwr it was a lovely big house with everything we needed we spent lots of time in the hot tub after a busy day out , Sarah was very accommodating and always made it clear she was on hand if we needed her

Sarah is most definitely a super host.
She couldn’t do enough for us and she was on hand anytime we needed her. We had a little issue with plumbing and her husband and Sarah sorted it with in a few hours. The house is amazing and we loved it for Christmas. It was big enough for us all and we never felt on top of each other. The games rooms is great fun and hot tub as well with the views it’s amazing. This was a wonderful Christmas for us to be with all the family and the home and was beautiful decorated as well on our arrival. This is definitely one of the beautiful holiday homes we have stayed in and we will be back. Thank you to Sarah and her family. But most of all thank you Sarah for all the advise before our arrival to make sure our Christmas was perfect. Xx

When we arrived we were so pleased and excited with the property.
The space and facilities were amazing and catered for all our family's needs. The space and views outside were beautiful. The hot tub was the selling point for our family. We all liked relaxing in there. Sarah the property owner/manager communicated with me before, during and after our stay. She was so sweet and informative. She also gave us the option of checking out a bit later which we took advantage of. I would definitely recommend based on our stay.

Total gem of a property.
Absolutely stunning house, in gorgeous location with really helpful host. Totally recommend this to anyone. Games room was an added bonus that kept the kids entertained for hours while breathtaking multi aspect views gave adults great backdrop to relax in.

It was great to be back. Once again we had a fantastic stay, this is a beautiful home in a stunning, quiet, secluded part of Wales. Everything you could possibly wish for is here. The facilities were brilliant, everything we could ask for and more! The kids (and adults) made the most of the games room and the Hot tub was great to have to relax after a day out exploring. We were blessed with gorgeous weather during our stay so we made the most of being in spectacular surroundings visiting many of the local places mentioned. Hoping to return next year! Sarah was a wonderful host who kept in contact before and during our stay, and although we didn't need any assistance during out stay, we had no doubt that we would have been looked after if we did!! We absolutely loved our stay at Cwmwr, the surroundings were breathtaking and the house was brilliant.
When we booked it we thought we probably wouldn’t use the hot tub or the games room that much but we spent a lot of our holiday using them and they made it all the more special. There was everything we could need in the kitchen and there were games in the lounge cupboard, there was nothing our host could have done better. An amazing 25 minute walk down to the village with a great shop and a brilliant pub which did fantastic evening meals and a stroll back in the sunshine to walk it off. Situated perfectly for Lake Bala, Lake Vyrnwy and Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, lots of beautiful walks. Highly recommend Little India in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant for a delicious authentic curry. Just one word for this holiday “AMAZING”.

! everything was just perfect, The owner Sarah who owns the farm next door was lovely and friendly nothing was too much trouble for her even taking time out of her busy day to check everything was ok for us . Thank you Sarah & Effion for providing a beautiful property and making us feel more than welcome, the house is stunning and very comfortable, the hot tub was gorgeous and checked regularly & we also enjoyed the games room, We spent most days outside as we were blessed with good weather . What an absolutely beautiful place this is!
As a group of friends who regularly enjoy cottage breaks in Wales we were so impressed with Sarah and Eifion’s home from home. The house is extremely spacious, tastefully furnished and has a relaxing, comfortable feel throughout. It’s well equipped, clean and has tons of natural light. The surrounding countryside is nothing short of stunning and there is so much outside space to enjoy within the grounds of the house and far beyond. We had lots of fun playing pool in the games room and relaxing in the well positioned hot tub. Sarah is a lovely, friendly host who made us feel very welcome - thank you! We couldn’t fault our week away and very much hope to return to this amazing property in a beautiful, peaceful part of Wales in the near future.

We were x2 families getting together as we do annually- both families having x1 child aged 11 & 13ys .
I had clear communication from the owner about key pick up. We arrived to find a lovely welcome pack of biscuits/ milk- nice touch. The house is beautiful….. new build. Quality furnishings and fabulous facilities. Great games room which the kids made lots of use of. Hot tub was great too. We had the added luxury of newborn lambs in the fields. The weekend was fabulous! Would definitely book again….. and maybe will!

Wonderful views all around. Cosy, clean and spacious. We all thoroughly enjoyed the private hot tub and games room, great for the kids! Having access to Disney plus, Netflix and Amazon, amongst other channels, was great too for our relaxing movie nights in together.

We had an amazing stay.
Many thanks to Sarah and Eifion who would pop by and check on all was well. The property itself was just what two family’s (4 adults and 4 kids) needed. It gave the space to be together while also offering the space for personal time. It had everything you needed including a hot tub the kids and adults made good use of. Location was perfect. It offered piece and quiet from the city Life and sounds we are so use too. But was in close distance of towns and shops if you needed anything. Highly recommend.
