Ashdale

Another fabulous week at Ashdale.

Lovely clean, comfortable cottage with amazing views over the Welsh countryside. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners who greeted us on arrival. A lovely basket of goodies and milk in the fridge is very thoughtful and welcoming. Would highly recommend if you’re seeking a peaceful retreat in Wales

We had a wonderful stay at Ashdale.

The quality of the home was excellent—beautifully maintained, very comfortable and with everything essential we needed. The countryside views were stunning, and the children loved watching the sheep and cows. My 71-year-old mum and two young children all enjoyed the stay. The owner was exceptionally welcoming and friendly. We would definitely love to come back! ❤️

We were warmly welcomed and shown around Ashdale by our friendly host Garth.

We knew immediately that we would be very happy staying here. A lot of care and attention by Sian and Gareth in preparing and maintaining the property is obvious the moment you enter. All the rooms are spotlessly clean, the upholstery and beds are very comfortable and all the linens are fresh and crisp. The kitchen has everything you may need with lots of little extras. The treats basket was a nice touch. Outdoor area is spacious with good furnishings. All this set in a serene environment with stunning views from all windows. Would love to stay here again one day.

Ashdale was just perfect, super clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need.

The views are amazing from early morning listening to the birds, sheep and cows in the fields to sitting outside at night stargazing. The hosts were extremely helpful on hand if you needed anything with great advice on the area and a lovely welcome pack. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Ashdale to everyone.

We had a fantastic family holiday here!

The house was immaculately clean and spotless, I honestly couldn’t find any fault at all. It was peaceful, quiet, calm and so relaxing, with everything we needed available. The teenagers loved it so much, especially being surrounded by beautiful nature and beautiful scenery. We all fell in love with this place and would highly recommend it. We would definitely come back again! The landlord was very welcoming and accommodating, always checking in to make sure we were comfortable and everything was okay. A truly wonderful and memorable family stay!

We spent a week at Ashley and we all fell in love with this place from day one.

Although we are not new at leaving in the countryside, this was literally a paradise. Surrounded by quiet and green, watching birds and swallows flying every moment, breathing pure nature every second was absolutely marvellous. Plus, the cottage is cute, spacious and offers all commodities you need. The position also is strategical to travel around Wales, being half an hour far from many nice places and just an hour from seaside. The owner then is so kind and available for any question. He let me also charge my EV car at the house with my “granny” charge cable.

Beautiful property best we’ve stayed at the elan valleys is a lovely place to visit the owners Gareth is a gentleman and the property smells so nice and clean 5 star highly recommend the best stay ever

We had a great holiday at Ashdale with everything we needed as well as a very thoughtful hamper and milk in the fridge, Thank you Gareth and Sian for such a lovely holiday.

It was lovely to meet you Gareth. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and the views are amazing. We enjoyed having our meals on the veranda and relaxing to the views. There are some good pubs in Rhyayader and we enjoyed cycling from Rhayader to Elan valley on the cycle path and all the beautiful places around. I would recommend the accommodation to anyone who loves being in the countryside and is happy to travel a couple miles extra for the peace and quiet and beauty.

Great unspoilt location, brilliant views, and a real home from home feel, with all you need in the kitchen.

Good hosts, helping out with any questions and we loved watching the birds everyday. Elan Valley is close by and has spectacular views. Overall Ashdale is an ideal holiday home to have a peaceful break.

Beautiful, clean, well equipped cottage, set in glorious countryside.

The hosts Gareth and Sian were excellent, friendly and always on hand if needed. We felt at home in the cottage, but also so far away from our busy town life...the serenity of the countryside and views did us all a power of good. Ideally located for villages, towns, pubs, restaurants, the amazing Elan Valley, Hafren Forrest and the coast.

The property was amazing with outstanding views.

The owners were extremely welcoming, friendly and most accommodating. We would strongly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing break.

Ashdale is a fantastic, spacious bungalow in a beautiful setting.

Very peaceful and quiet. Bungalow is very well equipped. The beds are very comfortable. The property is extremely clean. There was soap and washing up liquid provided if needed. The owners had thoughtfully left a welcome pack and fresh milk ... this was very much appreciated after a long drive. There is plenty of outside space and furniture to enjoy the tranquillity. It is a working farm, so occasional farm vehicles pass the property. The owners, Gareth & and Sian, are nearby at the farmhouse and happy to help with anything . They are very welcoming. We had lovely chats with Gareth. It was good to learn more about farming life. Thoroughly enjoyed our break touring around the area, Elan Valley etc. Lamb and Flag OK for food in Rhayader and the cafe , Lost Arc is really good. We recommend this holiday let and hope to visit again.

We had a lovely weekend at Ashdale cottage,it was very clean very comfortable and the hosts Gareth and Silan and family were lovely.

The farm is one of the cleanest and happy animals farms that we have stayed on. The views are amazing and it was lovely seeing all the cows and calves and sheep and lambs. Gareth met us on arrival and helped us with the bags and on entering the cottage we were grateful to see a lovely welcome gift. We’re definitely going to be going to the holiday cottage again

Our stay at Ashdale was wonderful the property is lovely and clean the views are brilliant and the host are always helpful and on hand if you have any problems.

We have stayed at Ashdale a few times now and enjoy every visit and will return again wonderful place and hosts.

Wow what a find.

A beautiful cottage nestled in the rolling hills with breathtaking views. The cottage was very clean and comfortable a credit to the owners, equipped with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming and the basket of treats was very thoughtful. To wake up in the morning to the beautiful views and the lambs in the field to the amazing evening sunsets was just perfect. Ashdale is a great base to tour mid Wales from the Elan Valley, the Hafren forest and even shopping in the quaint town Newtown. We had a fantastic restful break and will definitely be returning . Thank you Gareth and Sian for making our stay so perfect

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday stay at Ashdale!

The property was spotlessly clean and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. The area is calm and quiet, offering beautiful views that made every morning feel special. Our host was incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding a personal touch that made us feel right at home. We enjoyed quality family time, lots of fun, and the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure. A highlight was visiting Avon Valley, just a 30-minute drive away which made for a fantastic day out. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat with easy access to local attractions. Thank you for a memorable stay, and I am looking for another stay soon!

Lovely cottage situated in a picturesque rural area.

Lovely place to rest and relax. Cottage well equipped and owners very friendly. Would highly recommend.

Very happy with stay and accommodation and the host are brilliant always happy and helpful and property is always spotless.

Absolutely amazing week away spent at Ashdale.

This place is PERFECT for a week to reset. Peaceful location, surrounded by hills and fields. The owners were the friendliest owners we have encountered and despite a few issues with hot water and heating (totally not their fault - these things happen), were SUPER quick to respond and have a plumber out within an hour!! It was so lovely to wake up to sheep in the field each morning. Despite the weather being against us most of the week, we loved every minute. We are already talking about going back (hopefully when there is nicer weather). Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cottage and being such great hosts! We look forward to returning again in the future!

This cottage is the BEST cottage we have been to in nearly 10 years holidaying through Sykes.

In the winter we live something cosy and warm. Something modern and comfy. This was all we wanted. We've been to good places before but this one is by far the best! The cottage itself is beautiful with well equipped kitchen, super comfy beds and couches and charming electric fire places. The cottage is tastefully furnished and both feels and smells very clean and fresh throughout. Every thought has gone into thinking how guests can enjoy every detail. The cottage is situated on a pretty farm which is lovely to see and watch. Every single window has stunning views, whichever way you look. Gareth was on hand for anything we needed at all times and very friendly. He just wanted us to enjoy our stay and was so welcoming. We will definitely be back at this best cottage!

Lovely stay accommodation very clean and very relaxing owners very friendly and helpful

We received a wonderful warm welcome from Gareth in person as well as a fabulous welcome pack.

The house was high spec, comfortable, clean, and spacious. We enjoyed it's remote location, feeling like we really escaped and retreated.

A great location in quiet wales countryside.

Surrounded by hills, kites and sheep. The accommodation is amazing, just as listed with plenty of space to split up if you need a little time alone. We had a showery autumnal weekend, but there was plenty of heating, and hot water as required after our morning walks. Great hosts with advice of walks and local knowledge. Kitchen well equipped if you are cooking as we did. We look forward to returning one day. If it’s a clear night pls enjoy the sky, we walked down the drive, but you could also see from the garden, truly amazing. Thank you Gareth and family.

Once I found the cottage, what a gem of a place with wonderful views.

The cottage had everything I needed. Lovely place to relax after a day mountain biking. Made very welcome on arrival. If you eat out when away i highly recommend the Lamb &Flag; Inn in Rhayader with great food. Thank you Garth & Sian for giving me a holiday to remember. I will return for more mountain bike adventure and could'nt think of better place to stay. Your Ron Smith Blackwater Surrey

From the moment we drove up to the property and were met by Gareth, we knew we had made the right choice.

Gareth is so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Ashdale is stunning. From the wonderful views to the comfort and cleanliness and the wonderful welcome basket. All faultless. Anyone concerned about it being on a 'working farm' rest assured it is not intrusive. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful break and would add that a week is not long enough!

We had a really lovely week at Ashdale.

The views from every window are amazing. The bungalow was extremely clean and comfortable and we felt right at home as soon as we pulled up. We only met Gareth and the dogs but he was very friendly and helpful and not at all intrusive, neither were the dogs! We hope to visit again in the near future as there is still a lot of exploring around the area to be done.

A brilliant weekend away spent in a lovely cottage with beautiful views.

The cottage was a home away from home...well equipped, comfy and clean. The owners were very friendly and helpful. They left a very generous welcome pack of milk, Welsh cakes and chocolate. There were plenty of teabags and sugar sachets as well as toiletries in the bathroom. We can see ourselves returning in the not so distant future!

Lovely place and Gareth and Sian are alovely help full host this is our second stay and can't wait to return in February.

Looking for a quiet stay in rural Wales?

Ashdale is a lovely spot with friendly hosts and a well kept holiday let. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. Lovely walks from the accommodation with great views. Highly recommended.

It was one of the best holiday stay we had as a family.

The host was amazing. Facilities great and the location with beautiful scenery was breathtaking. Overall we will definitely coming back again.

We absolutely loved our stay in Ashdale.

It is spacious, perfectly clean, beautiful views, and really peaceful. You have around you just sheep and cows. Gareth was an amazing host. Whatever we needed, it was just a quick call or message to him and he was right there by us to help us. He also provided us with a list of places to visit which was very helpful. There are lovely places not too far to go and enjoy nice walks and climbs. Would love to return to this beautiful and peaceful holiday bungalow!! Thank you Gareth!

We stayed at Ashdale Holiday Home in July 2025, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish.

“The home was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had all the amenities we needed. The projector setup in the living room gave a real cinema feel – perfect for cozy movies. “We especially appreciated the welcome basket and the detailed local guide the host provided.” “The host was very responsive and helpful throughout the stay, making everything smooth and stress-free.” “Highly recommend ashdale Holiday Home for anyone looking for a stylish and relaxing getaway. Would definitely return!”

The landscape is stunning, the photos can’t do it justice.

We saw lots of wildlife, deer, birds of prey, perhaps 50 species of bird overall, rabbits. It was delightful. If it’s hot bring some fans. The cushion wicker chairs outside have been replaced by a wooden bench table. Gareth, the farmer, is very attentive. He kindly helped us out when we were delayed arriving. Although the property feels remote it is very quick and easy to get to from the main road.

Excellent holiday home everything was perfect Nice and clean and landscapes and views was amazing loved sein the red kites in morning also the owner Gareth was a gentleman and so helpful will definitely be returning

The cottage is set in a peaceful location with fantastic views.

It was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable, and Gareth was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. I had a lovely time and would definitely love to come back!

Spent a great week in this accommodation.

Everything you would need is there and presented in a modern and extremely clean and tidy environment. The bungalow stands at the end of a track within a working farm but the goings on were rarely intrusive. It was quite entertaining to watch the cows in the fields and the rabbits eating daisies on the lawn. If you are looking for peace, quiet and tranquility in exceptionally beautiful surroundings, I would highly recommend. The town of Rhayader is a 15 minute drive away with a well stocked Co-op, a pub or two and some coffee shops. There are lots of walking opportunities right next to the bungalow as the Glydwrs Way long distance track is very close by and Rhayader is a walking centre. Elan Valley lakes are also within 25 minute drive . If you're into night sky photography, there are great opportunities for this as the area is a complete dark sky spot. All this with a friendly and amenable host who went out of his way to ensure everything was okay.

Loved our stay in the bungalow.

Couldn’t fault it 11/10. Spacious, well equipped, super comfy beds, sofas etc. Panoramic views to die for, peaceful and tranquil. Surrounded by sheep & cows and beautiful wildlife right on our doorstep. Gareth & Sian were great hosts, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Lovely welcome pack on arrival so thank you and we would definitely return.

Absolutely the best property we have ever stayed in.

The owners have thought of everything you could possibly need and the welcome basket is such a lovely touch. The cleanliness of the property is superb and it smells amazing as you walk in. Beds are so comfy and the reclining arm chairs are great for relaxing and taking in the views after a busy day. Owners are brilliant. Always on hand if required and really welcoming on arrival. With the rolling hills and abundance of wildlife all around I think we could have stayed for good. Hopefully we will be back!

We loved our stay hoist where very helpful and we can't wait to return again missing the views already

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quiet, secluded working farm which we felt was perfect for a relaxing break.

Sitting on the patio on warm evenings enjoying a drink aqnd looking at the uninterupted view across the valley, as the sun went down was a real pleasure. During the day we drove to the Elan Valley and walked from the visitors centre, an idyll sport for walking. The farmer was friendly and helpful. We hope to return at some point.

What a fantastic location.

. so calm and scenic lovely cottage.. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ashdale, specially our two daughters were really enjoyed their stay.. very comfortable rooms , nothing to say anything negative and the owners were very helpful and kind.. we are definitely planning to be back in the summer holidays..beautiful Environment through out

Fantastic property and great owners providing everything you need and more for an amazing break away.

We loved staying there, will book again, highly recommended

Beautiful remote location and stunning views.

Interior of the home was modern and cosy and very well equipped! There were little details that we really appreciated (welcome basket full of snacks and drinks, milk in the fridge, Blankets and LED candles). TV set up so you can log into your own Netflix, Disney, prime ect. Host very friendly and welcoming. Views out onto the farm where we saw many lambs! You are only about 30min drive from both hafren forest & Elan valley. Elan valley is beautifully scenic with peaks and reservoirs, and there’s highland cows! Bonus. All around this area is a great spot for wildlife, we saw many red kites and buzzards and a few deer. There’s a nearby nature reserve called Gilfach which is only around 15 mins away. A lovely walk through a valley along a river, we were lucky enough to find a frog mating spot along the river! First time in this part of mid-wales and we loved it. We will definitely be returning to this area.

Excellent stay at a great location, our second visit to Ashdale, and already planning a third.

Having been involved in the hospitality sector for many years, Gareth and Sian have the accommodation spot on.

Lovely and obviously recently refurbished cottage in a very peaceful location, close to walks like Elan Valley and Hafren forest 100% gained a returning customer with us, the owners couldn't be more helpful and friendly Had everything we needed

Very nice tidy bungalow.

Beautiful views in the morning

Wow what can we say!

It was an amazing week away, beautiful home beautiful surroundings. I will certainly be going back to Ashdaie again. The host are lovely people always ready to help if you need them. I would reccomend Ashdale to anyone looking for a rest in peaceful beautiful surroundings with everything you need for a lovely stay. Nice local places to visit also for a day out

Excellent accommodation with lovely views on a working sheep and beef farm.

Comfortable beds and a well equipped Kitchen. Good internet connection to run a fire cube/stick. Gareth and Sian were good friendly hosts. Will rebook again for a break in March 2025.

Beautiful big cottage/bungalow, with outstanding panoramic breathtaking views.

The hosts were friendly and always happy to help. The place is well equip with everything you need. It was a home from home. Thank you for an outstanding stay we look forward to returning soon x

A lovely spacious bungalow with stunning views of the mountains.

Very clean and comfortable and a great location to exlore Mid Wales. The owners Mr & Mrs Rees are lovely people. Very welcoming and friendly. A lovely welcome pack on arrival too.. We really enjoyed our stay at Ashdale. A lovely perfect place to relax in. We will definately return Thank you forba lovely holiday. Sharon & Dennis

It was a fabulous short break for us @Ashdale.

Beautiful cottage, well maintained and lovely host. If you want to be close to the nature, this is the place!

This is a fantastic property in a stunning location.

The communication from the owners was first class and although the property is in quite a remote setting, on a working farm, the owners are on site nearby should you ever need anything. But from our experience, the property had been set up thoughtfully and had everything we needed. There are two lounge areas with TVs, ideal for when kids and adults want separate spaces to relax after a busy day out exploring. The bedrooms were comfortable and everywhere was immaculately clean. There is lots of outdoor space to sit and take in the amazing scenery, sunsets and stargazing. We have stayed in numerous holiday lets in Wales and elsewhere and we would rank this amongst the best we have seen. The town of Rhayader is nearby for shops, pubs, cafés etc. and we found the Elan Valley to be a real hidden gem of Wales. If you are looking to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Welsh countryside, do not hesitate to book this property!

We stayed here for 4 nights.

This place is absolutely beautiful. The kids and us had a amazing time. The host is absolutely brilliant, went out of his their way to make sure everything is perfect and whether we are happy. Definitely will recommend this property. Scenery is amazing and it's peaceful. Can't say enough about the place. Will definitely be returning.

We have stayed in lots of places around Wales but this property was definitely one of the best.

The location was amazing, stunning views and lots of peace and quiet. The property was immaculate, with all amenities you could possibly need. Everything was of a high standard and the owners were so friendly and welcoming. Thank you so much for a lovely stay!

We had an amazing stay, the place was immaculate, in a beautiful location with amazing views.

It was home from home, beautifully furnished and you had everything you needed. Gareth and Sian provided a welcome pack of bread, appletiser , milk, crisps, biscuits and cakes which was so welcome. Small shower products and coffee/tea options were provided, which was a lovely touch. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
