Road up to it is really narrow and full of potholes.
Don't follow the Sykes directions, the property will text you the right directions otherwise you end up going down the wrong route, which is long, narrow and very uneven. The views are stunning from the top, beautiful scenery all around you. Really lovely friendly couple, so easy going and great to chat to. Designated car parking just outside the farm gate. Garden is enclosed but not connected to cottage, so you can't just let your dog out for a wee you have to take them on a lead to the garden. It's not far, but if it's tipping it down it's not ideal. The garden really slopes down too, not great if you struggle with uneven ground like me. No where to hang coats if wet or put dirty walking boots which seems a bit short-sighted for the area. It's tiny, no storage for food stuff the kitchen cupboards are full of other stuff (Crockery, toaster, pans, cleaning stuff, etc). The fridge freezer is a great size, with plenty of room so we put the bread etc in there. Dog treats and a dog towel are provided, what a brilliant idea, in fact I love the microfiber dog towel with hand pockets so much I'm going to get one. Lovely welcome pack of fresh eggs (from their chickens), bread, milk, orange juice and biscuits. Although the margarine I thought was fresh was actually mostly used, obviously left behind from someone else, so that wasn't ideal. The living room is a bit awkward because you have the kitchen, dining table and sofa in it. The TV is huge, far too big for the room especially as the sofa is at an angle and you are quite close to it. It would be better smaller and wall mounted. There is a heater and log burner, if the log burner was removed you could make better use of the space, e.g sofa against the wall, tv wall mounted opposite. The heater is very effective you really don't need the log burner, it's just there for aesthetics. My hubby found photos of the lodge from earlier and there was no log burner, an extra sofa against the wall and smaller TV with a cabinet under it, much better use of space - in my opinion. However the bed is mega comfy and the bathroom is huge, the shower is brilliant with lots of hot water. WiFi very patchy, we used our data. Netflix wouldn't work it just kept buffering, so after the days walking our plans to watch a film and relax in the evenings were scuppered. Prime wouldn't even load and the normal channels had the usual rubbish on. Good job we both love reading. Netflix seemed to be ok in the bedroom but as the TV is on the wall at the side the bed it would be difficult to watch it in comfort. Plenty of walks around, but it's not clear where the public footpaths are because a lot of the signs are missing from the posts or are there at the start then there are no more so you are unsure where to go. There are maps in the property though. Very quiet and peaceful so ideal for a getaway to relax. Not far to get into Bridgend for shopping etc and the lovely Bryngarw Country Park is very nearby. Porthcawl is close by too, with a lovely beach to walk on and plenty of nice coffee shops. Dog friendly, but you have to pick up your dog dirt and take it down to the village to bin as there is no bin for this at the farm. They have to go through their bin to sort the recycling so they obviously don't want any dog dirt in there which is understandable. So it means either hiking up and down the hill or driving down to the village with your poo bags. A solution might be to get the guests to sort the recycling (which is what we have always done before) and have appropriate bins for it and maybe a dog loo in the cottage garden, which breaks it down so no need to worry about it. An instruction sheet for the washing machine would be good as it's a washer dryer. I put a wash/dry on but it didn't dry properly so then we had damp stuff to try to dry. All in all it's a lovely tranquil spot and the owners are on hand to help with anything. The eggs from their chickens are so good too, we really enjoyed them.
Caner Bach lodge was absolutely lovely.
The views were incredible and the lodge was really comfortable and had absolutely everything you needed. The host were really lovely and very hospitable. It was such a lovely surprise to receive some fresh eggs and some lovely treats from the hosts. They were so amazing with our little dogs and we really enjoyed meeting their lovely dogs too. This was an incredible holiday and ended with getting engaged to my partner, therefore all round a brilliant holiday. Can’t wait to return to the lovely place.
