“Lovely location that meant it was easy to visit the places we wanted to without travelling far.”

The week was very hot so glad the cottage was cool inside but a bit damp....kitchen very well equipped. Not really suitable for anyone tall, my hubs kept banging his head on the low doors! The TV did not have any regular channels that worked, not a problem for us as we did not need the TV and netflix, prime, BBC player worked... The outside space was lovely with all the trees but quite dark in the afternoon, apart from the top of the garden. It was also not dog secure, our small dog escaped on ...

It was also not dog secure, our small dog escaped on to the road and so lucky that all ended well with drivers stopping and helping to get him in... All in all we enjoyed our time at the cottage but would not book again despite desperately wanting to get back to the area to explore more.

Comfortable bed and set in lovely grounds and very well situated for exploring the area. If I had any criticism I would say replace the sofa and chair covers and curtains in sitting room to lift the darkness.

“Nice cottage in nice sized garden.”

However it's not brilliant. We had an issue with the heating venting fumes into the property, the toilet leaked, the kitchen light flickered continuously, the drain pipe leaks right above the front door, the bed is exceptionally uncomfortable and small. It's a shame because it has such potential but it's been unloved.

“We had a lovely stay in Cardigan, the cottage had everything we needed and great for our dogs with the large grassed area.”

There were a few things that I think need to be addressed to make it a great property. It was very damp in the property and any fabric just felt damp, impossible to dry clothes indoors, there has been dehumidifier installed but not removing the damp. The mattresses on the bunk beds are awful and children struggled to sleep on them. The water pressure is poor causing showering a problem and would take forever to fill a bath. Guttering leaked just above front door.

Clean and comfortable. Ideally based for local attractions. Large garden was ideal for the little dog. Although perhaps in need of a tidy up, trees and shrubbery abit overgrown. Especially at the rear making the patio area dark and too shaded

“Cottage is comfortable with an appropriate amount of equipment for an extended stay.”

Heating is easily controlled downstairs and the shower was a bonus. Straightforward to get to. Outside is fantastic for dogs though supervision is required for more determined dogs who like to explore the hedges. The only downside is the back yard which becomes a slip hazard in the wet. We will return as location is an excellent base for local exploration.

“I think the owner should be offering a pay rise to the caretakers, Sue and Graham.”

They are wonderful. However, trees and bushes need attention as garden gets very little light indeed and security of boundaries to the garden is extremely questionable. Back yard was unusable as it is green, due to overhanging branches, so could not hang washing out. Spend a few thousand and you could get an extra couple of hundred per week, but there is some fairly major work needed outside, which you cannot rely on the caretakers to deal with. That said, we had a great week with wonderful weather.

“Sharp edge at bottom of shower screen on which my husband cut open his finger.”

The first aid had no plasters and was very poorly stocked for anything. The paracetamol tablets were 9years out of date!!! The stickers on the electrical appliance plugs stated the next test inspection date was JUNE 2023! The keymaster box was extremely difficult to open - suggest it needs maintenance or replacing!

“Apart from banging my head virtually every day it was a nice place to stay.”

The only reason it's got 4 * is that the kitchen is always dark and the dining room mostly dark. There are lights obviously, it just lost some of it's ambience. Nice and roomy with a comfortable bed. It was nice listening to the birds in the large garden.

“The cottage is lovely but too close to a busy and sometimes noisy road, great garden though.”

I nearly knocked myself out on the low kitchen doorway and it took me two bumps and two days to learn. My fault, not the doorway !! The guttering over the front door leaks and when it's raining you get an unwanted shower on entry and exit. The hot water is scalding hot and the temperature should be reduced. Other than that it's a lovely comfortable house, located in a great position for visiting the many beaches and coves up and down the coast. The welcome pack was a great idea and very well received, thank you for that. Also two folders on the dining room table were packed with useful information. All in all a well thought out holiday home. Would I visit again and would I recommend a visit - the answer is yes.

“Lovely small cottage situated just outside Cardigan, a handy few minutes from a major supermarket and only 20 mins drive for Poppit Sands beach, coastal farm, wildlife centre / reserve and castle / abbey ruin visitor attractions.”

Modern bathroom and kitchen well stocked with utensils. Handy information folders containing cottage details and things to do. The small milk, jam, Welsh cakes and toffee waffles were also a very nice welcoming touch. Can definitely recommend as a place to stay.

.had problem with tv phoned contact number no reply .worked it out myself .so texted contact number . No reply to next day told person the problem ..said was busy last night and would not be able to come that day either so sorted out problem byself .. other problems on my stay but waste of time ringing I thought so left it .. road is busy but was told that .. Nice place if out most days because road noise ..been on few hols with more contact numbers even skyes only had one

“Contrary to other reviews, the wi fi now works beautifully.”

Also the garden is completely enclosed. My spaniel Billy loved it. Lounge is small but comfortable. The area round the back of the property needs some attention. Also a stair carpet would be nice rather than bare wood. Be careful when driving out of the main entrance as traffic moves very quickly past the cottage. Generally a good week's stay. The seven stars pub is a 5 minute drive away and very friendly.

Main road was much quieter than expected . House had all the necessary facilities. No dvd player as advertised but not a major issue. Was able to sit in the shaded garden away from the road.

“Absolutely fantastic little cottage, we were so comfortable and relaxed here, thank you!”

It’s spotlessly clean and tidy with new carpets and bathroom - but it still felt very relaxed and calm. You get the impression the owners really do want you to relax and enjoy it. The location for beaches and Cardigan was really good. But the real gem for us was the garden here - perfect for dog owners, our dogs loved it as they can bound about and have loads of sniffs without any worry’s. We had such a good time.

“Panteg is a really charming cottage.”

The whole place has been decorated to high standard and provided us with the quite retreat we were seeking. Having the use of such a large and pretty well enclosed garden for our little dog was a real bonus, she loved it. The cottage was really well located to offer a base outside of town but with quick and easy access to all the facilities the town has to offer, and there is a great choice of beaches within easy reach. “The good points - well located for touring the local area, very clean and tidy with good gardens.”

Bad points - Not as advertised. No Sky Tv, no DVD player, WIFI extremely poor. I did a speed test and got between 0.02Mbs and 0.00Mbs whilst I was there. This was basically unusable. The sofa in the main living area is well past its best. it was like sitting on a park bench. not something you would sit on for more than a few minutes. The toilet was useless. although we observed the many instructions on what to flush nothing would flush down without several dozen attempts. I would stay in this area again but not in this cottage.

“The one good thing about this property is that the garden is far more enclosed than expected.”

So the dogs could be watched but didn't have to be kept on a lead all the time. However that is where the good things stopped. The property is very damp, as a family member suffers from asthma we considered going home early but having travelled six hours to the cottage decided to stay for the majority of our booking. To minimize the problem we had to keep the windows fully open night and day whenever we were in, which unfortunately meant the VERY loud road noise woke us early every morning as the cottage is maybe thirty feet from the roadside. Also the advertised Sky TV is no longer connected, the satellite dish is hanging off the wall and you are limited to Free-sat - but because the wifi is so slow that it is practically non existent, there is no means to stream any TV shows. You have to watch live or not bother. I too ran a speed test which came back as 25 Kbps maximum ie 0.02Mbps which reminded me of the early 90's. We would have brought a DVD player with us had we known, as Amazon Prime or Netflix or any of the terrestrial catch up channels just wouldn't work. We eventually used our mobile phone as a, "hot spot" to be able to check emails but as we don't have unlimited data that was about it. As the sofa has no cushioning whatsoever and needs to be replaced you wouldn't want to sit too long anyway, it is like sitting on a church pew. We did contact Sykes and sent them a photograph of the black mould on the, (unnecessary) bathroom curtains but have never had the courtesy of even a reply. Lovely area and we are back in December but we won't stay at Panteg again.

“Holiday cottage was fabulous!”

Clean and warm. The extras of biscuits, jam and milk a nice touch! The marshmallows to cook on the fire were really enjoyed by the kids! Garden is great for kids and dogs to play! Close to cardigan, lovely cafes and pubs. Close to many beautiful dog friendly beaches! Thoroughly recommend this cottage! Thank you! Xx

“Firstly, the house was beautifully clean.”

Thank you. However- the photographs are far from the truth! The house is tiny. The photos very cleverly make the rooms look spacious which they are not. They really are tiny. When we had friends over for coffee it was very crowded. The sofas desperately need replacing- it was like sitting on a wooden pew every evening. Not comfortable. This cottage should be for two people. Sorry- not impressed.

Traditional cottage with all you need. It is on a main road so you can hear a fair amount of traffic but not too disturbing, Only one loo roll provided which we thought was a bit stingy! Otherwise a lovely cottage and facilities.

The sofas could be more comfortable, the wi-fi is very poor and the car parking could do with re-stoning as it’s a bit muddy, but other than that it was very nice.

The property

Situated half a mile outside Cardigan and near Cardigan Bay, this small, simple holiday cottage, with low ceilings, nestles in a dip on the road from Cardigan to Llechryd and the Teifi valley.

There are numerous places of interest to visit nearby, including the Cardigan Wildlife Centre, Mwnt beach and Poppit Sands as well as Aberporth and New Quay, where resident dolphins can been seen.

Cardigan has a castle, good range of pubs, eateries, shops, galleries and an excellent theatre/cinema.

The cottage is perfect for a couple, small family or guests with dogs, as there is almost an acre of grounds to explore at the rear with sloped pasture and woodland areas to enjoy.

The bustling market town of Cardigan in Ceredigion is set on the River Teifi and offers an array of shops, both unique local producers and larger chain stores, as well as tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and an impressive ruined castle, which is the home to the Eisteddfod. Cardigan castle has a fascinating history and has undergone substantial investment over the years. It is home to regular events throughout the year, along with a café and restaurant which has been strategically positioned with a view over the castle and River Teifi. Surrounding Cardigan is beautiful countryside, with long, dramatic cliff walks around the Cardiganshire coastline, whilst the rugged Pembrokeshire coastline is just a few miles away. You have the opportunity to visit the Cardigan Island Farm Park, wonderful Blue Flag sandy beaches like the National Trust beach Mwnt, take a boat trip to spot dolphins and seals, or horse riding at the friendly Dyfed Riding Centre. For keen cyclists take a trip on the National Cycle Route, Number 82. The nearby Preseli Mountains offer wonderful walking and cycling, with some stunning views and an ancient stone monument. Within driving distance is the town of Carmarthen, Dylan Thomas' Boat House in Laugharne, Oakwood Theme Park, Blue Lagoon indoor waterpark, Folly Farm Zoo and the Welsh Wildlife Centre at Cilgerran, as well as an array of castles, mills and craft centres. Cardigan is an excellent base for exploring this part of Wales.
