Penfeidr Newydd

We were completely taken away by how perfect this cottage was for the four of us.

Full of character and charm, it felt like stepping back in time while still having all the comforts needed for a relaxing stay. Being the last cottage at the end of a track gave it a wonderful sense of peace and privacy, and it made the ideal base for a fantastic week in North Pembrokeshire. We spent our days exploring the beautiful local beaches and cycling some of the loveliest (and certainly hilliest!) lanes in the area, before returning each evening to enjoy a meal overlooking the stunning views and watching the incredible sunsets over Newport Beach. The dry, warm weather allowed us to make the most of the garden, which was a real highlight, but we could easily imagine returning for a cosy autumn or winter break. This has to be our new favourite holiday cottage, and we would not hesitate to return.

A beautifully furnished , artistic, and quirky cottage at the end of a lane.

Only the occasional walker passes by. If you want peace and quiet then this is the place.

The property is exactly as described, a rustic cottage on the side of a hill.

The directions given to the property are needed but are very accurate. The owner met us at the cottage. We'd arrived an hour early and he had arrived to make the fire and warm the house. His welcome also included fresh flowers, a bottle of wine, welsh cakes and best of all, a fresh pot of tea! There is ample space inside the cottage for a family of 4. Our trip was two adults, a teenage son and a dog. The garden is an absolutely brilliant space for the dog. We could let him out without fear of him running amok in the nearby fields. There are also tables and chairs letting you soak up the view over the town and towards the estuary. A remote, but cosy cottage with loads of character. Highly recommended.

We spent a week in Penfeidr Newydd.

This listing stood out for us because of the view from the garden, and we weren't disappointed. It's a fantastic location with sweeping views out to sea, across the countryside and up onto the moorland. On arrival at the cottage, the woodburner had been lit and we'd been left a bottle of wine and some Welsh cakes, which was a nice touch. It's very cosy and peaceful and surprisingly warm even without the woodburner, with everything we needed except towels, but the listing makes it clear these aren't provided so it wasn't a problem. The enclosed garden was ideal for our labrador to play in. There are some stunningly scenic walks from the door, including up to nearby Carn Ingli, which we did on our final day. It took us about half an hour to climb. The location is very quiet and peaceful, but if you want to head down into Newport it's a mere 20 min walk away (beware though: it's all uphill coming back...). Newport is a really unspoilt town with good options for eating out (Golden Lion Hotel, Llys Meddyg) and cultural activities at the former Bethlehem Chapel. John, the owner, was a great source of knowledge of the area and recommended a few places to visit. He made us feel very welcome and valiantly braved some foul weather one evening to top up our log supply for the woodburner (we didn't ask him to do this but were very grateful). We definitely intend to return, as there's still much we'd like to see in the area.

My stay at Julie and John’s cottage was just what I was hoping it would be.

There were walks from the main door, cozy fires, and views of the Nevern estuary from the garden and some of the rooms. Newport is lovely with some fantastic restaurants and shops, so it was a great location for exploring the northern parts of Pembrokeshire and beyond.

We spent a lovely few days in penfeidr newydd cottage.

We received a warm welcome from John, who gave us lots of recommendations of things to do in the area and kept us supplied with plenty of logs for the fire during our stay. Cottage was rustic, very cosy and equipped with everything that we needed. It was in a quiet, secluded location with a great view of the bay below.

This was our first holiday to penfeidr newydd, and on the whole we enjoyed our holiday, the cottage itself was comfortable and adequately equipped.

Unfortunately the surroundings weren’t a good fit for what we were looking for, we are used to starting walks from the house, these were limited and short, which wasn’t evident on the maps we looked at prior to going, we had to drive further out to get a substational walk in, so for that reason we will not be returning

Really enjoyed our stay in Penfeidr Newydd.

Great location with the carningli mountain right from your doorstep. Fabulous views from the garden down over Newport and the sea. Enjoyed spending time with our friendly neighbours the donkeys. 10 minute walk downhill to the town where they are some great pubs and shops. Recommend a meal in the secret garden Llys Meddyg, food was amazing. Also the Golden Lion, great Sunday lunch. Overall a lovely quirky property with some real nice features. Maybe a comfier sofa to the lounge for nights in front of the Television would be good. Would recommend to others and will definitely return in the near future.

Well equipped. Ideal for a restful break. Good service from the hosts who posted an overlooked item to us free of charge.

A very quirky cottage with lovely features.

Possibly a little dark which added to the cottagy feel. Using the wooden staircase to access the downstairs bathroom at night could be hazardous to those with reduced mobility. Although this property wouldn't appeal to everybody, the location, the quiet, the amazing views from the lovely garden made this a truly unique stay.

The week went too quickly.

Such a lovely cottage and made so welcoming. We would love to enjoy this place again.

This is a wonderful cottage with the most amazing views from the garden.

The kitchen had been well equipped and the cottage just hugged you with coziness. Interesting stairs and interesting quirks to a charming cottage. We loved it. This is a gem in a great location maybe one of the best cottages we have stayed in.

A delightful cottage which was warm, comfortable and welcoming.

It was very peaceful and relaxing, a little haven to come back to after a day on the hills or coast. When we arrived for our Christmas week we walked in and found it beautifully decorated, it felt magical. Thank you Julie and John

If you want complete peace and quiet then this is the place to stay.

Beautiful location and the cottage was very cosy. The views were lovely and our dog loved the enclosed garden to roam around and the mountain behind the cottage. The food in The Golden Lion pub was excellent and plentiful so would highly recommend as well as a lovely atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff. The owner John welcomed us with the wood burner going, a fresh pot of tea and also left some welsh cakes and a bottle of wine. Very knowledgeable man and checked in on us during our stay and provided more logs for the fire. The weather wasn’t brilliant but stayed dry, I think visiting in the Spring or Summer would be even better. Thanks for a lovely stay.

A beautiful, character filled cottage, in a stunning and peaceful location.

We loved the real fires and cosy atmosphere here. Friendly donkeys at the end of the garden were a bonus! John the owner was welcoming and warm. We enjoyed visiting Newport, which was a short walk away and has a variety of shops, Monday market and plenty of places to eat. A wonderful stay and we hope to return.

, and so peaceful. The cottage was very comfortable and the supply of logs much appreciated. It was nice to have easy to use, straight forward appliances - do the job and you don’t have to stress over how to use the multifunctional oven or variety of hobs! Good food, including breakfasts, at Blas in Newport. Monty (the dog) enjoyed his week as guardian of the gateway to Carningli and making friends with John.

We had a lovely Easter weekend staying at Penfeidr.

It's a beautiful location in the middle almost of the Carningli mountain with the view of that on one side & a stunning view of the sea/Newport bay from the garden. We had the fire going & was lovely & cozy, we will definitely go & stay again

Lovely comfortable cottage full of character in a fabulous situation on Carn Ingli.

Wonderful views both to the sea and mountain. Walks from the door, easy paths down to Newport but obviously uphill on return.Facilities great will be good when upstairs bathroom is installed as well. Large enclosed gardens for dogs .Owner John very helpful and fresh flowers a lovely touch.

We had a fantastic time and it was the perfect peaceful, private and blessed place for us to relax and enjoy the magic of Wales. The views are spectacular and the cottage is cozy with a wonderful charm and special energy. We hope to be back again soon.

This place is amazing, we absolutely loved it.

Feels very rural but the village is only a 15 minute walk. Very cute cottage, half way up the mountain which the boys went up & back in about 2 hours. There’s everything you need in the cottage. The village has pubs to eat in. The owner John is great, very helpful and a phone call away. Came back every night to logs on the doorstep for the log burner (no extra charge). A very comfy cottage, even our teenagers loved it. Just wish we had stayed longer. Will hopefully visit again.

Had a great stay here.

The positives far outweigh the negatives.The cottage is well equipped and cosy.Loved all the antiques. The only downside being, after a long day out would of been nice to have a decent shower or bath.This property provides neither.Shower goes from boiling hot to cold.And the bath I doubt me or the Mrs would fit in it.Haha.But it did the job and it got us wet and clean,eventually. Bathroom definitely needs updating.Or just a decent shower or a decent bath. The bed was rock hard as we're the pillows.I didn't mind so much as you get used to it.But we did swap the pillows from the other bed as they were a little softer. On the whole we had, like i said, a great holiday and we were very pleased with the cottage and the host.Thank you for the gifts. And checking in on us to see if we had arrived safely. Really beautiful location, with amazing views of the bay and direct access to the mountain.

The cottage is quirky and comfortable,the stairs could be a bit tricky for some! Well equipped, the lane up is steep and narrow, I would definitely recommend it for a tranquil stay.

Great week, fantastic cottage - brilliant location.

Couldn't be better. The only one thing I would suggest is some darker blinds in the main bedroom, I was awake with the sun - but when in Wales with those views, I almost didn't mind! Very sad to leave, and was just building a rapport with the beautiful horses!!! Throughly good week.

Great location, as it is right on the side of the mountain but within easy walking distance of Newport town with its shops and pubs.

It was cosy and warm with a wood burning stove and John kept us well supplied with wood. The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed, and everything was very comfortable. I enjoyed the thoughtful reading lights everywhere and my daughters enjoyed the wi-fi and smart tv.
