Dolwern

We've just returned from a fabulous week in Dolwern.

This property is large, spacious, incredibly well-equipped and tastefully finished to a very high standard. We loved the quiet location, only a short drive to the nearest beach. The garden is extensive and well maintained and, as we enjoyed fabulous weather, was a very welcome addition which was well used by us. Highly recommended.

When you first see the Garden of this property you will go wow, when you enter the property you go wow wow and thereafter you will just keep going , there is so much to this property to see and explor, the garden is a delight and the accommodation is very comfortable and well equipped, there is so much to see and do in this part of Wales and the owners are only more than happy to recommend places to eat drink and explore, this is a holiday for couples and families alike.

We experienced an enjoyable time for our family holiday and a special birthday celebration.

Inside Rich and Leigh placed birthday banners and some extra special goodies, a lovely surprise for our daughter. Along the outside was a line of bunting and balloons. It was a kind and thoughtful gesture, thank you. We found everything we needed easily. The house and kitchen are comprehensively equipped and plenty of comforts from home. Fridge and freezer were full size plus a separate wine fridge. The disco lights were a must every evening. It was a shame the weather was not kind but we still got out and about. We had a lot of fun and laughter at the firepit with marshmallows. The wind blew smoke over us, but then, there was always the large bath! Plus, hairdryers. The downstairs bedroom met all needs and so did the separate wet room. It was an easy walk to the local shop and other amenities. Highly recommend the Golden Lion pub/restaurant in Newport. When booking (which I suggest) a parking space at the rear had been reserved as we required easy access for mobility. Rich was very helpful and sent welcoming and useful messages before we arrived, answered our questions and gave plenty of useful tips.

My wife & I had a wonderful stay at Dolwern.

The property is a delight, everything from the location, quality of decor, furnishings, open plan ground floor & outdoor facilities. Rich is the most amiable host, accessible & eager to give advice on places to visit & local amenities/restaurants etc. Highly recommend a stay at Dolwern!

Comfortable well maintained and well equipped property, Quiet location, ideal for coastal walks.

Interesting garden with the fire pit & barbecue area a lovely secluded sun trap.

On arrival the property was dirty.

Carpets, flooring in general not being swept or hoovered despite it being empty for a few weeks. There was dirty crockery in the cupboards too. I reported this to the owner & sent him photos. He offered to get the cleaner in, however as we were in we didn’t want anyone coming in then so declined his offer. The facilities were all good. Bed in need of new mattress (also reported to owner) as massive roll together. In all a lovely place just unfortunate about first impression. If everything had been clean we would’ve reviewed differently.

The property was every bit as good as we hoped it would be.

.. very homely and nicely furnished throughout but with the extra touches that make a huge difference, such as the tumble drier which came in extremely handy after a wet autumnal day sightseeing, and the sky glass tv for the relaxing cosy nights in front of the log burner... perfect. 'Dolly' has been renovated to a very high standard and the whole family (ranging from 91 - 4) really enjoyed our stay... great value for money. The communication from (Rich) the owner, was unobtrusive yet plentiful and very informative. He was on the phone immediately to sort our mini crisis when we inadvertently tripped the upstairs power, to our great relief! All in all a wonderful home from home and a great base from which to explore the Pembrokeshire coastline and countryside... Highly recommended!

What a cracking week had a (dolly) a credit to its owners for the high end finish to the property its a home from home experience.

our party consisted of 6 adults and 2 children with the advantage of 2 ensuite rooms a downstairs wetroom and a family bathroom on the first floor made it a breeze for all of us.the firepit made a chilled out out night some toasted marshmallows and a wee dram of whiskey. Many thanks to rich & leigh will definately return in the warmer months

We had a fantastic family holiday at Dolwern.

The house was very well equipped and comfortable with plenty of space for our three generations to be together but also have some privacy when required too. We all enjoyed the spacious garden with its unusual features. The village shop and fish and chip shop just along the road were both very good. Thank you to owner for communication and welcome goodies. We had a wonderful stay at Dolwern. Thank you.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Dolwern.

The house is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you could need and more! Walking distance to the costal path and lovely beaches. The excellent play park nearby was also a big hit for our grandchildren. Thank you.

Local shop and good places to eat, again both within walking distance. Dolwern provided all we needed. It is a 'home from home'. After one very wet day out exploring the Pembrokeshire coast it was lovely to get back to a warm and comfortable house. Thank you.

We enjoyed our stay at Dolwern.

It is a large and comfortable house that is very well equipped with everything you need. The owner Rich kept us well informed and sorted out a minor problem immediately. We were on our own as our friends couldn't come with us due to illness so we just used the ground floor but the house will easily accommodate a group of friends or a large family. We hope to return and hopefully have better weather.

We had a wonderful stay, exploring the area knowing we had such a comfortable place to come back and relax in at the end of the day. Rich, the owner, was most helpful, sending us lots of information and suggestions of things to do before and upon arrival, and he was readily available to contact should we need him. My family and I had a wonderful stay at 'Dolly'.

The house is decorated and equipped to the highest standards, and the magical garden won us over big time! We had everything we needed, and our 2 and 5 year olds loved the bunk beds! Rich, the owner was more than helpful, and provided us with loads of info which added to the joy of our stay, replying very quickly each time to our requests. We would definitely come back again should the opportunity arise.

I couldn’t fault it!

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Dolwern.

It was our first visit but will definitely not be our last. Having read the reviews from previous visitors, our expectations we pretty high. Amazingly though, this beautiful house completely exceeded all expectations. Within our party were my two young grandchildren (5 & 7); my elderly father and his sister (95 and 94) and various ages in between. The house really was suitable for everybody. The downstairs ensuite bedroom was perfect for my frail father and the children loved the bunk beds. Everybody loved the garden and all of its amazing features. The information provided by the owners before and during our stay was exceptional and we were left in no doubt that they genuinely cared about their guests. As others have mentioned, there are some wonderful walks, literally on the doorstep. My son and the children enjoyed walking to the beach at Cwm-yr-Eglwys via the path at the end of the garden. I was able to drive there with my dad, where the car park is right next to the beach. It really is a beautiful spot. The locals we encountered we very friendly and welcoming, including the landlady at The Ship Aground, just up the road. A really nice pub with a lovely beer garden. We would recommend The Golden Lion at nearby Newport, for eating out. We actually went on 3 successive evenings and the food and service was excellent each time. All in all, I cannot recommend Dolwern highly enough. Huge thanks to Rich and Leigh, whose care and attention to detail really did make for a wonderful holiday.

We had a great holiday in Dolwern.

The house was superbly equipped with very high standard kit, beautifully presented with many thoughtful touches. A real home away from home. We could have done with a bit more space in the bedrooms & en-suite, but a very minor quibble. We were very pleased with the accommodation and would not hesitate top book again if we come to north Pembs. Excellent comms with property owner who showed great concern that we enjoyed our holiday. First class!!

Superb property - I'd highly recommend anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing break but in reach of some superb beaches, local pubs and amazing family activities to stay here.

The owners were incredibly helpful, recommending plenty to do locally and the property itself - WOW. Stunning.

Nothing missing, plenty of everything.

All clean and tidy, plenty of room, number of bathrooms was great, facilities good. Personally I love the artificial grass at the back, so it’s always ok to sit outside without getting wet feet. Some nice walks to the sea and lots of places to visit. Would recommend it.

The refurbishment of the cottage has been done to the highest standards both internally and externally, every detail of the accommodation is well thought though giving the best for any holiday maker. The property has all the amenities anyone could want including two large fridges! It suited our group of 8 walking the Pembrokeshire coastal path. Highlights were the walk along the coastal path to St David's, 40 miles completed and incredible bird life including large numbers of chough's. Being almost on the coastal path it is ideally located. There are pubs 2 mins walk and restaurants less than a 10 min drive. The owner Rich could not have been more helpful. The property would also suit families exploring the magnificent Pembrokeshire countryside, attractions and beaches. The nearest beach being only a few mins walk. All in all an excellent property, location and weeks holiday.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay in this beautiful property for a week this Easter.

The house is beautiful and very well equipped for an enjoyable stay. The open plan kitchen, dinning, loving space worked so well for us and the boys loved the fire pit. It was great to be able to explore the beautiful coast with a different beach each day including some in walking distance from the house. We would all highly recommend this property and area.

Wow, what an absolutely wonderful holiday home to relax and from which to base our adventures!

We enjoyed spreading out and spending time together in the different areas of the house, as well as the spacious garden, all equipped with everything we needed! Incredibly helpful hosts made us feel welcome before we arrived, and were responsive to my queries. We really enjoyed time at two beaches we could walk to, playing on the sand and in the sea even at the end of October. We highly recommend a stay at Dolwern, and hope we might be able to have a summertime return...

We had a great week at Dolwern (Dolly).

The accommodation is extremely well equipped, very comfortable and an ideal location for the Pembrokeshire coast and countryside. Whilst we were lucky to have good weather in October, I’m sure the outdoor facilities are fantastic for the warmer weather months. We would certainly like to revisit the area and use this property again.

A superb property which comfortably fit 6 adults and 2children.

Plenty of space for all of us. The garden is wonderful and bigger than the picture and loved the fire pit and pizza oven. A truly wonderful place.

Just returned from a fantastic holiday at Dolwern (Dolly).

It's a beautiful property and great for a family holiday. The large kitchen dinner area is a brilliant communal space making for some lovely family evenings. A particular highlight is the secret garden area with fire pit, we spent some lovely evenings there. There was a bag of logs provided. The location is fab with lovely beaches within walking distance and pub, fish and chip shop and village shop very close. Add acces to the Coastal Path and Dinas Mountain to the mix and it's perfect. We also loved the footpath at the bottom of the garden which takes you to the road down to the beaches. The owner is also very helpful and sent a very welcoming and useful message before we arrived. Highly recommended.

An amazingly beautiful property in the most stunning costal location.

Dolwern has everything you need for a perfect family holiday.

This is a lovely property which is within walking distance of two beaches , pubs and village shop .

The owner , Rich , couldn't have been more helpful and the garden was great for our three year old granddaughter to explore and play in .

We had a fabulous stay at “Dolly”, it has everything you need and more and the owner was always available promptly if there were any queries.

The cottage is in a great location for exploring the local surrounds including a lovely walk down to the two nearby beaches. There are a couple of local pubs, fish and chip shop and petrol station with shop within 5 minutes walk which was handy too. This is a beautiful area and very peaceful so all in all would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Just got home after a week staying at Dolwern.

The house is amazing.We had a wonderful stay, it’s so well equipped with everything you need! Especially the kitchen! It’s was very relaxing because it’s so peaceful. We would definitely stay again.

We booked this cottage as loved the look of the garden.

It did not disappoint! The garden is gorgeous, the Astro turf is brilliant baby was able to play out. We were blessed with lovely weather not a single rainy day. The kitchen is very well equipped with quality equipment. Loved the large fridge which was perfect for our family size. Loved the highchair available to use for baby. Good quality hoover. Loved the open plan kitchen and living room, in the evenings could watch TV with the children whilst preparing food. Although this is a semi detached cottage it is very secluded! The drive is narrow but you can park in the front perfectly fine. I did love how though Rich the owner gives you good instructions how to drive in the driveway and out. Rich the owner was always reachable and very helpful. In the local area we really enjoyed cardigan farm park, Newport beach and white sands bay near St David’s Lovely ice cream also in the shack in Fishguard, caffi mawr at Newport beach and also in St David’s! Really enjoyable relaxing holiday and we would love to return!

Dolwern is a lovely property for a family holiday.

The property is very well equipped with good quality fixtures and fittings throughout.. Our granddaughters (aged 5 and 8) were able to play safely in the garden and loved the "secret" path at the back of the property down to the beach. We particularly appreciated the call from the owner of the property just before we travelled to Dinas Cross advising us of the best places to go, recommended eateries and general advice for getting the best out of "Dolly". We would readily recommend this property for a relaxing holiday in a good location.

Dolwern is a very comfortable house, well cared for by the helpful owners.

It was well equipped, clean and to a good standard. Useful to have a snug and lounge area and several bathrooms/en-suite. Great outdoor space and only a short walk to the coast. We had a very relaxing few days here and would be happy to return.

Dolwern - Dolly is great property we felt at home straight away and so much care and thought has been put into the property by the owners who gave us a warm welcome- we will return again as we had such a lovely week- my teenage son loved the garden and local beaches and swimming in the sea.

There is great attention to detail, with all you could possibly need, provided. Everything is very clean and comfortable. The garden is huge and there is plenty of parking. Location is great, with two beaches within walking distance. Food at the Freemason Hotel was excellent. Thank you to the owners for your help. This property is ideally located for going north and south along the coast.

There are numerous sandy beaches close to hand. The property is very well equipped and spotlessly clean, and situated on a fairly quiet road. There is ample parking, but the drive is extremely narrow. Close by, within walking distance, is a very good chip shop and 2 pubs.

We stayed at Dolwern for a week this summer with another family and loved it.

It’s a lovely house and the owner was super helpful and welcoming. He sent us recommendations before we arrived and was quick to respond to any queries we had whilst at the house. We particularly enjoyed the garden and firepit where we had a bbq and toasted marshmallows - it’s lovely. The beaches nearby were good and we managed a paddle board one day (we had a breezy week!). Local pub was welcoming and lively. The house is well decorated and cosy with lovely bathrooms and an open plan living area. Having the shed that was lockable to store our kit was really helpful and the kids enjoyed all the outdoor space. Would highly recommend a stay here. Rich is a great owner who made us feel very welcome.

Dolly is a beautiful property, perfectly situation just 20 minutes walk from 2 lovely little cove beaches.

The open plan living is ideal for a large group with big comfy sofas, a really well equipped kitchen and a large dining table. Outside is fantastic with a lawn area perfect for the kids to play on, a hidden seating area at the bottom with fire pit and a nice patio with furniture just outside the living space. We all loved the outside shower which was perfect for cleaning off after a day at the beach. 4 bathrooms meant there was no queuing to use the lovely waterfall showers and there was plenty of hot water for us all. There are 2 good pubs and 2 convenience stores with a few minutes walk and St David’s and gorgeous Whitesands Beach are a 40 minute drive away. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!

Dolly is a beautiful and fantastic place to stay in Pembrokeshire.

The cottage has everything you could need on holiday, including multiple bathrooms as well as an outdoor shower. Well stocked kitchen to cook indoors as well as a w lovely firepit for a meal outdoors. The 5 of us felt at home in the cottage and the garden was brilliant. The living room was perfect to relax in after exploring. Location perfect to explore the coastal areas by car and has access by foot to a local beach. Rich was extremely helpful in recommendations and easy to contact. He and Leigh have clearly put their heart into Dolwern! The rooms did get quite hot as it is well insulated but Rich did tell us beforehand that the underfloor heating had issues at the time. Do not hesitate to book Dolly!

Dolly has she is fondly called is perfect in every way .

From comfy beds for the perfect night's sleep to breakfast on the patio and no fighting for the shower at bed time too . Well planned kitchen with plenty of storage even two friges to keep your beers and wines chilled. Plenty of nice walks on the door step (even from the back gate) lovely pub just up the road call the Ship Aground friendly landlords. Great host's

Three generations all had a wonderful time and Dolwern.

The cottage has been wonderfully renovated and features all the things you could wish for a comfortable stay. The huge garden was a big hit with the kids with great spaces for scooting, football, cricket and then the end of the garden for exploring and firepit. Location was wonderful, nearest town lovely Newport was around 3 miles away which was great for eating. The two beaches within walking distance were perfect for our 2 young boys for exploring rock pools and jumping waves. We had a brilliant holiday and will certainly be returning in the future.

Perfect location for exploring the area and such a beautifully finished house, we didn’t want to leave. Rich was incredibly helpful throughout. We will be back soon!

A real home from home, very well equipped and extremely comfortable with the added bonuses of a large garden, fire pit, coastal walks from the doorstep, lighthouse, disco lights and boiling water tap.

We have not long come back from enjoying a holiday here.

I am writing this review (my first ever) in a bit of a hurry because I want to look at dates when we can go again. Yes. It's that good. I absolutely fell in love with the place. In my opinion, 'Dolly' has everything you could possibly dream of. If you think it sounds amazing when you read the description. Well, It's even better. The hosts are so incredibly thoughtful you actually feel like your part of the family! If you want to stay in a home that offers so much in a fabulous location, with so much to explore right on the doorstep, where the locals are the friendliest I've ever met book right now and if it's fully booked this year try the next. You really, really won't be disappointed. Thank you so much Rich and Leigh x

We had a fantastic week’s stay at ‘Dolly’ Arriving during stormy weather and power was out in the local area for the first 24 hours.

Rick kept us updated and once we lit some candles and the fire we we’re cozy in the cottage. During the week we explored the area and visited some lovely beaches. Dolwern is well equipped and comfortable, we could not ask for more for a relaxing week away.

Dolwern, or 'Dolly' was a delight!

Exceeded expectations. The accommodation is light and spacious, superb large family space opening out onto the private outdoor area, great to see the blustery winter weather while so toasty warm inside. We enjoyed dips in the sea, only a short stroll along the path accessed through the rear of the garden, returning to lovely hot showers, so many bathrooms! The front lounge offered a quiet space for anyone needing to take calls or work. The kitchen ticked all boxes and the whole house was superbly well equipped. A gem of a find, beautiful house, great location in any season.

“Dolly” is a beautiful, spacious and very clean home to spend the week.

It has a lovely mix of being a character property, but with all the modern features like Alexa and boiling water tap. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was lovely having the gate out the back for walks down to the beaches. The children were very pleased to find a little selection of books and toys to play with during the stay, and the garden was great for a run around. However a cot or travel cot would have been very useful. We all had a lovely time and would be very happy to visit again.

Lovely property, so well equipped and with a fabulous open plan living space with access to the garden, which our family loved.

Brilliant location with 2 lovely beaches very close by and a short walk to the local shop and pubs. Fishguard and Newport are also within easy reach with a few more shops and eateries and there is a good size coop in Fishguard. Highly recommend. Deborah - September 2021
