Glan Yr Afon

Our second visit to this lovely house.

We came in the middle of the 'heat wave' so the bedroom was rather warm at night but we had brought a fan with us. Downstairs was cooler. The property is very spacious and, although it appears a little dated, it suits us down to the ground. It was clean and well prepared. The bed is comfortable and the bedding and the towels are of good quality. The shower works well but it seems that it is necessary to have the water heating on to get warm water in the shower. We had one small problem (smoke alarm batteries) but the owner sorted it out in hours so no inconvenience to us. The Parking is off road right alongside the property and there is a pretty memorial park right opposite the house. If you like reading or if you like Bob Dylan, this is the place for you. Ystradgynlais is a pretty and friendly little town. The local pub, Ynyscedwyn Arms, does real ale. There is an excellent butchers and a small supermarket within a couple of minutes walk. The area bus station is also a few minutes walk away and provides access to all the local towns. I could go on. It is likely that we will be back to continue with friendships that we made on our visit.

House was "as Described", unfortunately there was a maintenance issue on the toilet, that required us to be in for a morning.

Garage was not available to store our bikes, we were told it was for storage of a classic car - IT WAS EMPTY for the week ! Garden was great for sitting out in the evening. Be aware there is now a contractor "Village" on the Riverside of the house (collapsed retainment wall on the far side) that is noisy in the daytime.

Personally I love this property.

This is my second time here, I came for the first time last year. Cleaning materials are supplied, as are towels and toilet rolls, things you usually have to take yourself. There was a little welcome pack in the kitchen, which was greatly appreciated after the long drive. The house is old and feels it, but in the most comforting way. For me it’s like the house gives me a hug when I walk in.

Really nice location to discover south Wales.

The property was clean with lots of room & located close to a great pub Cafe Chameleon. I would highly recommend staying & the owner kept in contact ready to help if needed. Great stay great weather. Many thanks

Wonderful period property in a great setting by the river .

Lovely park and walks around the surrounding area on your doorstep (literally) and 5 minutes from town center. Would and will be booking again . Dog had to come back home for a rest!

A beautiful detached house.

Totally unspoilt, antique furniture and a great library/ study. Beautiful setting next to The Tawe River, surrounded by beautiful walks. Will definitely stay again.

We loved the house and location and hope to come back and experience them in a different season.

The industrial history of the area made for interesting walks from Craig-y-nos country park where many informative leaflets are available. The wine and Welsh cakes on arrival were very thoughtful. The only improvement I can suggest is that the heating is on for arrival, the house was very cold.

Absolutely wonderful property, beautiful house next to the river and close to shops, cafes and pubs.

Small park opposite the house and a much larger one a short walk away. The house has everything you need and is very comfortable. We'll definitely be back!

We had a very pleasant visit in a very rainy week Glan Yr Avon It is a delightful homely house very welcoming One of the best equipped holiday homes we have had the pleasure of staying in .

It was clean warm and spacious .first impressions as you walk in are happy ones well placed for visiting places of interest of which there are plenty within less than a hour drive. Thank you for sharing your home Would definitely recommend booking this beautiful house

Enjoyed our stay at this very homely house.

Easy parking. Extremely comfortable bed, plenty of towels, Well equipped kitchen, plenty of utensils, everything provided including washing up liquid, cloths, tea towels,soap,cleaning materials, milk in the fridge. Comfortable sofas and easy to work television! We had a BBQ on our first evening (bbq provided) we took our own charcoal. The garden is secure for most dogs but I have tiny chihuahuas so I always go out with them. The house is dog friendly and the tiled hall floor was perfect for their crates which they sleep in. The house is opposite a park, great for a quick morning dog walk and up the road opposite the house is Diamond Park and the lovely Chameleon cafe. Around the corner is yet another park! A few minutes walk to an excellent bakers, take aways etc. I especially liked the Library room. It has an amazing number of books and the room has a very thought provoking,comforting atmosphere. It has obviously been a much loved, cherished room and felt full of loving memories.

Great, relaxing place to stay.

Very much a comfortable home from home experience. Rustic charm of the house and garden made our stay very enjoyable - dog loved exploring the garden too. Off road parking a bonus. Loved the study, great selection of books. 2 great parks in the area - one opposite house and Diamond Park just a little further down (signposted outside house) - Not a problem to vacate the house earlier than stated on website, but wondering if the times should be changed to 10:30am for all to avoid any confusions - just a thought!

The house was amazing and had a character to it.

Location was ideal with local shops and cafe to go to also for dogs as there was a park across the road. Good communication with the owner. Unfortunately, the cleanliness, there were lots of spiders and spider webs around the house and in corners, As I have phobia, My husband managed to put some outside and with the duster I cleaned some webs in the bedrooms and living room. We enjoyed our holiday and would love to come back again.

I can't understand why this house was available when we decided to go to Wales at short notice.

Perhaps the photographs don't do the place justice. Super beds, fabulous garden and loads of room in and out. We would love to return. One or two minor points. WiFi excellent on mobile phones but intermittent on laptop. More knives and forks would be useful. The front door is sticky but we just used the back door. Medium sized dogs can jump the fence. Just a warning, not a criticism. There is a superb dog walk of which we were not aware till two days before we left. Opposite the house is a park. Part way down on the right there is an exit. Take that and continue walking until you get to Diamond Park. Turn left at the coffee place (well worth a visit too - dogs welcome). Then turn right through a gate and follow the path which brings you to the quiet road which takes you back to the start point. Or do it the other way around. Circular route. Ideal. We were a little perturbed to be asked to leave at 10.30 as people were expected, but we managed it.

We had a relaxing stay.

Lovely location, close to shops and restaurants ( including ones tucked away on the riverside). Easy parking. Plenty of info on things to do in the area. Also had excellent communication with the owner when we discovered that we had left something personal behind.

We enjoyed our stay at this house.

It was large, clean and comfortable and quiet. The WiFi was reliable.The bed was comfortable and linen and towels were plentiful and of good quality. The only downside was that the lower oven did not work (no problem for us as the top oven was enough for the two of us). There was a shortage of knives and forks, only 4 of each.The position of the house was excellent being quite close to the river which could be seen from the windows. There were some small local shops and the Tesco superstore was a short drive away. Plenty of local pubs and eating places. We are keen geocachers and there were plenty of caches to find walking from the door. We have no hesitation in recommending this house and would happily return.

It was clean and comfortable - the kitchen had everything we needed, including useful items like washing up liquid & soap - which was also provided in the bathroom. As there are 2 lounges it was ideal for the book lover & the TV lover. The owner responded quickly to any queries. The house is ideally situated, close to the Brecon Beacons & the South Wales coast. It is a short walking distance to amenities & there are walks by the river & in the park. Alison
