“Our stay at West Cottage on Llwynywermod Estate was an absolute dream!”

We had a few rainy days which were absolutely fine by us as the cottage was spacious, so clean and very cosy. From the photos on the listing, we had an idea of what to expect but I can confidently say that the cottage exceeded our expectations. On the sunnier days, we explored the surrounding area and the estate itself - both wonderful to experience! Having the ability to wander the grounds at will was truly fantastic. Boudica was so helpful, checking in through our stay and answering any questions we asked with kind thoroughness. 10/10 would recommend! Recommendations for the area: Penygawse (cafe in Llandovery), Books at the Dragon's Garden (bookshop in Llandovery), Carreg Cennen Castle & The Barn (cafe at bottom of the castle - amazing views!), Newton House &Dinefwr Park (National Trust property).

The property

Llandovery 4 miles.

West Cottage is a beautiful courtyard retreat surrounded by rolling countryside near the peaceful village of Myddfai, Carmarthenshire.

This distinctive cottage is based at Llwynywermod, previously the residence of King Charles when he was Prince of Wales and lies within a 196-acre estate of farmland and woodland, offering a memorable escape for families, friends and couples in search of peace and outdoor pursuits.

Positioned around a courtyard, shared with Gatekeepers Cottage and North Cottage, alongside the former royal residence, West Cottage combines seclusion with a sense of heritage.

The estate, part of the Duchy of Cornwall, boasts a rich history, having once belonged to a relative of Anne Boleyn and overlooks an 18th-century country park with 40 acres of woodland.

From the moment you arrive, the surroundings evoke a quiet sense of grandeur, where nature and history are deeply intertwined.

Inside, the cottage is tastefully appointed with its carefully curated interiors.

The kitchen blends traditional charm with everyday functionality, featuring tiled floors, white cabinetry, wooden worktops and an exposed beam that nods to the building’s past.

It’s a welcoming space for leisurely breakfasts and hearty dinners, fully equipped for self-catering stays.

The dining room offers a relaxed setting for shared meals or planning the day ahead, with soft natural light enhancing its inviting feel.

Beyond, the sitting room provides a peaceful spot to unwind, where deep blue sofas rest beneath a striking wooden beam and plush carpeting adds a layer of comfort.

Upstairs, two well-presented bedrooms offer restful spaces to recharge.

The king-size room is warm and inviting, while the twin room features zip/link beds that can be arranged as a super-king if preferred.

Both rooms are finished with soft carpets, exposed beams and thoughtfully chosen artwork, creating a refined yet welcoming atmosphere.

The shower room is light and airy, with a Velux window framing the sky, while a separate bathroom with a bath and hand-held shower offers a calm space to relax.

A ground-floor cloakroom adds extra convenience.

Step outside into the enclosed private garden, where the lawn invites barefoot strolls and the patio is ideal for open-air dining.

As the sun sets and the barbecue warms, this space becomes perfect for relaxed evenings and shared stories.

Beyond the garden, the estate opens up to wildflower meadows, traditionally farmed fields and tranquil woodland paths.

No pesticides are used here, just nature, carefully nurtured.

Guests are welcome to explore the walled garden, complete with a conservatory and sun room, or take part in wellness retreats offering yoga, reiki, foraging and guided walks.

Just beyond the cottage, Bannau Brycheiniog National Park unfolds in a sweep of dramatic peaks, hidden waterfalls and heather-cloaked hills, inviting walkers, cyclists and nature lovers to explore its untamed beauty.

West Cottage is more than a place to stay; it’s a chance to reconnect, breathe deeply and experience the timeless beauty and heritage of Carmarthenshire’s landscape and of its royal connections.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £300.
