“Perfect for our group of 10.”

We sought somewhere dog friendly with a hot tub, a big kitchen table, space for everyone to communally lounge, plenty of parking, a good amount of oven space and a mix of single/double beds. We sought somewhere dog friendly with a hot tub, a big kitchen table, space for everyone to communally lounge, plenty of parking, a good amount of oven space and a mix of single/double beds. Few places ticked as many boxes as here. We were delighted to find this place which and had a fabulous weekend. The owner was prompt and welcoming too. The building has been wonderfully modernised but it’s very old. The beams give it character but it’s worth noting from the pictures how low the entrance to the bedroom that sleeps 4 is - only about 1.3m so everyone is going to have to duck. There’s another beam leading to it at 1.6m so be sure to leave a light on nearby whenever it starts to get dark. As shown on the map, the property is very slightly north of Cregrina so, if approaching from the north, you’ve gone too far if you pass the sign showing that you’ve entered Cregrina (satnav took us into Cregrina). If you’re approaching from the south, drive through and out the other side of Cregrina (the hamlet is tiny).

Builth Wells 7.4 miles.

Nestled just outside of the sleepy village of Cregrina, just a short drive east of neighbouring Builth Wells in Powys, you will discover the fantastic, four-bedroom holiday home of Penarth.

Brimming with character, a bright white exterior set within lush green woodland, boasting off-road parking and superb living spaces with exposed beams and well-preserved features throughout, this charming home makes a perfect base for a large family or group of sharing friends who are seeking a relaxing, self-catered escape just north of the beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

Park up outside your wonderful new home-from-home and take a moment to breathe in your tranquil new surroundings.

Step inside the property and discover a collection of well-appointed living spaces, starting with a tastefully presented kitchen/diner featuring an impressive AGA range cooker and a dining table seating up to ten people.

Here, you and your loved ones can prepare and enjoy delicious dinners whilst you enjoy some light entertainment on the wall-mounted Smart TV.

When it’s time to relax and unwind, you can head into the conservatory to catch up on the day’s events at the breakfast bar whilst you gaze out upon your brilliant countryside setting; challenge someone to a game of pool in the games room, which also has a Smart TV; or kick back on the corner sofa in the sitting room to enjoy a film or two on the Smart TV whilst you’re kept warm and toasty by a woodburning stove set within a historic, inglenook fireplace.

As day rolls into night, refresh with a soak in the bath or a rejuvenating shower before you hunker down for a well-earned rest in one of the home’s four bedrooms, two of which are accompanied by their very own en-suites.

Awake with a coffee that you can savour outside in the enclosed garden before you set out to explore your local surroundings.(Bryn) Penardd, as it was known in the Middle Ages, has a long and proud history.

The house is referred to in poems by the renowned Welsh poet Lewis Glyn Cothi from Carmarthenshire, who was born around 1420 in the remote village of Rhydcymerau.

He composed his poems between 1447 and 1489.

One of his last poems is addressed to Henry Tudor (the Father of Henry VIII) after he was crowned king Henry VII.

In another poem addressed to Bedo Chwith we learn that Lewis Glyn Cothi received a warm welcome at Penarth and was given three silver coins with an inscription of a plough on them.

The house is therefore at least 800 years old!

Jump in the car and head west into nearby Builth Wells, where you can load up on homely essentials at one of the many convenience stores in town, before you treat the whole group to a hearty pub lunch at The White Horse or The Barley Mow Public House.

The local Pub in Hundred House village is now open which is 1.5 mile from the accommodation.

The property is a prime position for access to the Royal Welsh Showground with its many events hosted throughout the year.

Penarth Castle Mound, dating back to the medieval period, is a short walk away and is well worth a visit, whilst the property also has open access to common land and open hillside, ideal for an afternoon stroll or a picnic.

When you’re ready, set off to discover the nearby landmarks of the Llywelyn Monument, the National Trust nature reserve of Abergwesyn Common, and the scenic point of Water Break-Its-Neck before you head south into the breath-taking setting of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

This property is perfect for exploring Mid Wales and is 30 minutes drive from the Elan Valley dams and half an hour drive from Hay on Wye, which is world famous for its second-hand and antiquarian bookshops.

All of this and more is yours to enjoy when you book Penarth.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £450.
