“The house was spacious, very clean, warm and well-equipped.”
However, there was a lingering bad smell somewhere in the living room, but we could not track it down. This smell lasted all week, and it was not a “wet dog” smell! The 3-piece suite was old, uncomfortable, and smelled musty. We discovered that the double bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. We’ve seen reviews where these problems have been raised, and the owners’ response that they are going to do something about them. This is good news for future guests, but not for us.
The smart TV was quite new, but slow, and didn’t respond at all well to the remote control. It was a smart TV, but was not set up to stream ITV or Channel 4. It didn’t stream anything well, and on Thursday night it stopped altogether. Fortunately, we had an iPad, which worked fine, meaning that the problem was with the TV, and not the Wi-Fi.
Overall, our experience was not what we expected, and we are disappointed.
We’d like to thank Geraldine very much. She gave us a very friendly welcome, and went out of her way to help us with the problem we had with our car on the way down. She made the house spotlessly clean and well-presented.
Finally, we would like to ask why we had to pay £49 to make our own on-line booking for our holiday. There seems to be no justification for this. It won’t do to claim this is an “admin fee”, because we did the booking. And other companies don’t charge admin fees for the use of their services as part of their business. So why has this charge been made? We’ve tried to contact Sykes Cottages to ask this question, but there seems to be no way to contact them.
