Set astride the River Brenig sits this ancient market town, Tregaron. Offering scenic surroundings for a Mid Wales adventure, find out why your next break needs to be at a Tregaron holiday cottage.

Why choose a Tregaron cottage?

Tregaron is market town located in the county of Ceredigion (Cardigan) in Mid Wales, around 15 miles from the West Wales coast. Near to the Cors Caron National Nature Reserve and the Cambrian Mountains, Tregaron accommodation is great for a group seeking a peaceful retreat with picturesque places to visit.

The name Tregaron itself means town of St Caron, with the local church dedicated to the same saint. Tregaron hosts a traditional Welsh Eisteddfod, a festival with music and poetry, each year as well as an annual festival of harness racing in August.

In the town you’ll find the Tregaron Red Kite Museum, a café and farm shop, and several local shops, pubs and takeaways. Everything you need for a Tregaron holiday cottage holiday.

Places to visit near your Tregaron accommodation

At the Cors Caron National Nature Reserve you’ll find over 170 species of bird so it’s perfect for wildlife watchers and enthusiasts. This area was actually one of the first places to reintroduce the endangered Red Kite into the wild. Head to the local Tregaron Red Kite Centre and Museum to learn more about these wonderful birds of prey.

Explore the town via several local walks from your Tregaron cottage. Twm Town Walk, Elephant Walk and Cwm Berwyn Walk are just some of the lovely routes taking you around the local countryside amidst the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains.

Llyn Berwyn is a nearby 40 acre lake just 5 miles from the centre of the town. The lake is stocked with brown trout and is a popular spot for fly fishing and wild swimming too. Another beautiful waterside location nearby is Teifi Pools. This series of lakes and reservoirs sits in remote moorland, making a wonderful destination for walks and hikes.

Make a visit to the ‘Westminster Abbey of Wales’, Strata Florida. The final resting place of generations of Welsh medieval princes, Strata Florida was built in 1201 and is a place of pilgrimage and a linchpin of Welsh culture.

As well as the local attractions and sights, you can travel just a little further afield from places to stay in Tregaron to West Wales’ coastline. Head to Aberaeron, Llwynon, New Quay or Llangrannog for some seaside adventures, with beautiful beaches and classic coastal attractions.

New Quay is home to the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre and New Quay Beach, whilst Aberareon is a pretty harbour town where the River Aeron meets the sea.
